@zachdollin cams kill your gas mileage, your trading low end torque for top end, i had a 2001 v6 automatic, now i have a 2002 gt manual, they get similar mileage, i actually get better mileage with the 5speed and the v8 than i did with the v6 automatic, but if it was the same transmission then it would be a 1-2 mile pergallon difference if they were both automatic, i shift between 1500 1700 rpms for good gas mileage with the stock 3.27 gears, i get 30mpg on the highway and 24 city, stock tune

I'm looking to do this to my mustang. Do you need a new hood to fit the 4.3 stroker engine? Because my hood has a custom paint job, and if I needed one with a cowl I'd have to sell the old hood, which would be a shame.

@kryptonek88 The 3.8 and the 4.2 is the same exact block. The only difference is the longer stroke of the 4.2. I have the stock T-5 tranny, havent been to the track. Got it dynotuned to 256rwhp and 248rwtq

unfortunately the engine spun a bearing on the dyno. The engine builder didnt properly check the clearances. In process of building a forged 4.3L. NEVER DEAL WITH A & L ENGINE BUILDERS IN FLA!

np - after that if you want to keep going - I cant be a whole lot of help because I didn't get any further with my v6 before I sold it but.
I'd recommend going with MSD wires / 8" limited slip / some good tires / short throw shifter / SVT Focas Fuel Pump - then its basically up to you whether you want to pursue a power added like turbo or nitrous or not.
Just remember - it is the truth when people say it's cheaper to sell the v6 and buy a v8.
Yeah thats what makes it worth it - but still my mustang with stuff done had trouble keeping up with honda civics - so just know it'll cost you - more power to you if you do it.

the 4.2 came in the f150 trucks. its the same block as the 3.8 but with a longer stroke

unfortunately the engine spun a bearing on the dyno. The engine builder didnt properly check the clearances. In process of building a forged 4.3L. NEVER DEAL WITH A & L ENGINE BUILDERS IN FLA!

Well - if you just want sound:
Intake/Exhaust - between the two of them they'll give you much better air-flow. Intake also adds a bit of an aggressive sound.
If you also want more power:
After that - I'd recommend gears and a tuner - 3.73 rear gears and a SCT tuner would work.
Running the 93 octane tune off an SCT tuner with gears/intake/exhaust - you can expect mid 15's or maybe lower depending on your driving.

thanks man! I'm getting my exaust completly done from the headers back, then cold air intake with a bigger throtle body, then i'm going to the rear gears and what not. Thanks for the help man!

np - after that if you want to keep going - I cant be a whole lot of help because I didn't get any further with my v6 before I sold it but.
I'd recommend going with MSD wires / 8" limited slip / some good tires / short throw shifter / SVT Focas Fuel Pump - then its basically up to you whether you want to pursue a power added like turbo or nitrous or not.
Just remember - it is the truth when people say it's cheaper to sell the v6 and buy a v8.
It'll cost money to make the v6 move - have fun.

Yeah thats what makes it worth it - but still my mustang with stuff done had trouble keeping up with honda civics - so just know it'll cost you - more power to you if you do it.
