  • @zachdollin cams kill your gas mileage, your trading low end torque for top end, i had a 2001 v6 automatic, now i have a 2002 gt manual, they get similar mileage, i actually get better mileage with the 5speed and the v8 than i did with the v6 automatic, but if it was the same transmission then it would be a 1-2 mile pergallon difference if they were both automatic, i shift between 1500 1700 rpms for good gas mileage with the stock 3.27 gears, i get 30mpg on the highway and 24 city, stock tune

    just wondering why you drive a gt but your worried about gas mileage? its a sacrifice, you want more power, most of the time you gotta pay for a little more gas. it didnt seem like you were bitchin, but some ppl enjoy power over fuel economy.

  • @fastmaro81 its my daily driver and my track car, and it gets good enough gas mileage for my needs along with plenty of power when i need it or want it, and the world isnt going to run out of gas for a long time, and if they do its so easy to convert to 85% ethanol and all the way up to 100% ethanol on gasoline engines

  • @Agern1988 a cammed 3.8 can put out about 210-240ish whp depending on the other mods. a stock PI 2v gt puts out about 220 whp. the stock 3.8 cam is slow as shit. i know all this because i have a cammed 3.8.

  • @kryptonek88 The 3.8 and the 4.2 is the same exact block. The only difference is the longer stroke of the 4.2. I have the stock T-5 tranny, havent been to the track. Got it dynotuned to 256rwhp and 248rwtq

  • unfortunately the engine spun a bearing on the dyno. The engine builder didnt properly check the clearances. In process of building a forged 4.3L. NEVER DEAL WITH A & L ENGINE BUILDERS IN FLA!

  • start off with dual exhaust

  • I have Mac exhaust. I have had flowmasters but like the macs better

  • Well - if you just want sound:

    Intake/Exhaust - between the two of them they'll give you much better air-flow. Intake also adds a bit of an aggressive sound.

    If you also want more power:

    After that - I'd recommend gears and a tuner - 3.73 rear gears and a SCT tuner would work.

    Running the 93 octane tune off an SCT tuner with gears/intake/exhaust - you can expect mid 15's or maybe lower depending on your driving.

  • thanks man! I'm getting my exaust completly done from the headers back, then cold air intake with a bigger throtle body, then i'm going to the rear gears and what not. Thanks for the help man!

  • np - after that if you want to keep going - I cant be a whole lot of help because I didn't get any further with my v6 before I sold it but.

    I'd recommend going with MSD wires / 8" limited slip / some good tires / short throw shifter / SVT Focas Fuel Pump - then its basically up to you whether you want to pursue a power added like turbo or nitrous or not.

    Just remember - it is the truth when people say it's cheaper to sell the v6 and buy a v8.

    It'll cost money to make the v6 move - have fun.
