when i started watching F1, it was because Schumacher and Hakkinnen... every Grand prix, when i was watching, people would say On what position is Schumacher? On what position is Mika?
I am and always will be a Schumacher fan, but out of all of his adversaries, Mika Hakkinen has by far my greatest respect, both for being a great driver and also a great sport, he never once was a bad loser and he never once was unfair. For this, even though he was the "enemy" of Schumacher fans, he never will be disrespected in any way by them.
Mika is a class act. My favorite quote: "We have to increase the speed in order to maintain the speed." Sounded hilarious coming from the mouth of the mono-syllabic Finn, but there is a great shred of wisdom in it nonetheless.
What a legend!!What a man!!I get goosebumps everytime I hear him speaking!I've always been a Schumacher fan but when I see Mika's face I always get memories of their great battles back then!!Thank you mister Mika Hakkinen!!I will always remember your battles with Schumi!!!
@stellpoons Hamilton better than Hakkinen? Are you insane? Hakkinen fought against a prime Schumi and won two world championships, Hamilton has lost the edge this year and actually this year has shown Button to be the no.1 driver at Mclaren, comparing Button to DC is utter nonsense. The stewards have pyscologically destroyed Hamilton this year, so he feels he can't even go near another driver and he will get a penalty. A prime Mika would brush that nonsense aside.
Mika always puts an article before someone's name: "the Ron... the Michael...". Is this usual in the Finnish language? :P
I can't agree with ThisIsJustAChannel more. As a little child, I was a Ferrari fan too, and for me, Mika made these races exciting. I actually became bored with F1 the day Mika left.
Slashbag69 . Im an aussie.. but im sick of everyone saying mark is a great guy he is this he is that, mark isnt all that of a nice guy.. its just what the media makes of him.. he has a dog side to him too. and as a driver he is Overated mate.. this will be his lat year.
Mika had target to become world champion and had long thinking remember that. Motivation might have been small backround thing and the fact that he wanted to be more with his family. Kimi wanted to win title and he did it too so then he had done all things he wanted to do basicly.
don't worry there will be good finish driver's in future for sure.
and if I would have ever become F1 driver I would have retired when I have done everything I want to do. sometimes its time to stop.
@mswoonc look "Googlyinns" or whatever he calls himself has a mental problem{I work in the mental health industry}, and the purpose of his "mental torture" is to cover a deep seated feeling of homosexuality, ie, he pounds the pavement rather brokebacking one of his SEAL buddies.
That's his particular motivation, so I don't find it inspiring, I see it as another person grappling with their true feelings towards MEN, and trying to find a different outlet{instead of rectum fixation} for their fear
I've been wondering, where would have Kimi gone had Mika decided to come back for 2003? At the end of 2002 Williams were ok with Montoya and Ralf, Ferrari probably still had deal with Rubens, in terms of having good team spirit McLaren would've probably kept David as Mika is good friends with him... So could it have been that we would've seen Räikkönen-Alonso pair at Renault in 2003? :O
Mika divorced his wife and i don't blame him. I don't know why he married Erja in the first place. She was almost 7 years older than him. She might have been a good wife, but still so much older. I'm not any better myself and i don't want to be cruel. Thats just the way i have always seen it. He has been dating ex stripper Marketa Kromatova for some time now.
As a Schumacher fan, thanks Mika, Thanks for pushing Schumacher as hard as you could, you were a great racing driver, we all respect your decision, Thanks for the entertainment you gave the fans, Enjoy your retirement and maybe your child will race in Formula 1 in the future :)
When Mika said that he is going to retire i couldn't accept first but when i heard what was the reason i understanded that he wants have some time with family now.

i think schumi in a way wanted to be like Mika, very cool-calm-collected yet strong enough to translate victories into world champion titles. maybe/maybe not, but certainly when they both retired formula1 become different for me, i don't respect the politics any more and the drivers are too seperated i think.
@wingl3ss Don't know whether you'll agree with me or not, but Mark Webber seems like he could fit the bill. Seems a really nice guy, done lots of interview and road car tests and stuff outside of Formula 1, and he's got a funny side as well.
Kun Häkkinen sanoi että hän jää eläkkeelle niin minua suretti. Se oli vaikea hyväksyä koska Mika oli suomalaisten aioa toivo. Mutta hän silti jätti paljon muistoja itsetään. Best guy on the grid ever. To achive what he achived, while being honest and fair-play, that was truly remarkable. That's also why Schumacher respected him the most.

And contrast him to multi millionaire (over-paid)handsome, talented Kimi who looks like his dogs been ran over and his wife has ran off with a China Man even when he's just won a race. Maybe Kimi is a typical Finn lol
I´m a Schumacher fan, but I feel respect for Hakkinen and his career in F1. It was sad to know in 2002 that he will retired from F1, between him and Michael made very close battles for the title in a short period of time. Well, that´s life.
+5 video! Hakkinen is one of the greatest drivers of the "schumacher era"(95-00-04)
Schumi and Hakkinen are the onlys i think, that can be considered "greats" as Barrichello and Coulthard(as Irvine and Verstappen) used to be just "2nd". In Schumi case, by contract, in Mika case, by hability.
Schumacher era was not even fun compared to others, no real competition, but Hakkinen was one of few drivers to made that era, a great era. Hakkinen rulez!(Y)
Yeah, that was what I thought too as soon as I heard about the divorce. But I hope that Hugo will make an attempt to fill his father's shoes someday. I don't think she's a hooker and I'm sure Mika is a nice guy but it's a shame he divorced his wife when the family was such a huge part of why he quit.
i remember when i was kid i was angry when hakkinen won cause i liked more to see schumacher winning, but i always liked the guy, he is so 'true', now we have had the ego montoya, the child alonso, the overrated hamilton, i see hakkinen as one of the last of that good generation, together with schumacher, barrichello and coulthard
I could feel my heart break when he spoke about not wanting to push his luck, not wanting to get hurt, and I had a mental flash of Senna, and then Mika's own crash in Adelaide...miss you so much Mika!
Mika Hakkinen was a real champion, so what he didn`t win 7 world titles, he didn`t always have the best car on the grid, but his character, his personality puts him apart from Schumacher and many others.Thats why I respect him
But Häkkinen is still driving in Mercedes Benz... In DTM. And here Finland DTM will come at Canal Sports. I don't remember would that come at Urheilukanava.
I recall my mother watching your commercial with Becker - she loved your smile saying "nooo"to Becker
inviting you for tennis !That was a little happy break
in her painful last days - she called you "the smiling champion"- Since she has passed away in 99 I wanted to thank you - Sorry youtubers it's sad but I
when i started watching F1, it was because Schumacher and Hakkinnen... every Grand prix, when i was watching, people would say On what position is Schumacher? On what position is Mika?

The accident in '95 at Adelaide was scary. The in-car shot isolated we viewers from crash at the end of Brabham straight. Even F1 coverage had no idea how hard the hit was. Mika was suddenly in a coma and fighting for his life due to his head snapping forward (ne' Dale Earnhardt). 1000 days later, to the day, he won the championship. I always knew Mika had balls after his impressive run with the Lotus in '92. But to come back after nearly dieing? That takes someone very special.

I mean, Schumi wins 7 champs ok, but by my side the great one, is the first in Ferrari (2000)
A close fight between two great teams and drivers until the end (Suzuka)
One reason is obvious, since '79 Ferrari didn't won the driver champ.
Second, was won againts't this Man and a team in great shape, wasn't easy.
Respect Mika, really.

i remember when i was kid i was angry when hakkinen won cause i liked more to see schumacher winning, but i always liked the guy, he is so 'true', now we have had the ego montoya, the child alonso, the overrated hamilton, i see hakkinen as one of the last of that good generation, together with schumacher, barrichello and coulthard

well montoya's long gone, but i like raikkonen - not as good as hakkinen but

I hope Kimi won't do the same in 2009 when his Ferrari contract ends. Kimi Raikkonen and Mika Hakkinen are the greatest Formula one legends.

Take Schumi out of the greats list. Replace him with Hill. Senna Hill Prost Piquet Rindt Fangio These are the greats

I don't remember would that come at Urheilukanava.

inviting you for tennis !That was a little happy break
in her painful last days - she called you "the smiling champion"- Since she has passed away in 99 I wanted to thank you - Sorry youtubers it's sad but I
had to =
