  • when i started watching F1, it was because Schumacher and Hakkinnen... every Grand prix, when i was watching, people would say On what position is Schumacher? On what position is Mika?

  • I am and always will be a Schumacher fan, but out of all of his adversaries, Mika Hakkinen has by far my greatest respect, both for being a great driver and also a great sport, he never once was a bad loser and he never once was unfair. For this, even though he was the "enemy" of Schumacher fans, he never will be disrespected in any way by them.

  • Manly tears were shed.

  • FUS ROH DAHHH

  • Mika is a class act. My favorite quote: "We have to increase the speed in order to maintain the speed." Sounded hilarious coming from the mouth of the mono-syllabic Finn, but there is a great shred of wisdom in it nonetheless.

  • well done mika first win was a long time coming but when you got going even schuey could,nt catch you .. spa still the best overtake ever ..

  • I went to see THE Ron lol...

  • OMG I love his accent hahahahhaha <3

  • What a legend!!What a man!!I get goosebumps everytime I hear him speaking!I've always been a Schumacher fan but when I see Mika's face I always get memories of their great battles back then!!Thank you mister Mika Hakkinen!!I will always remember your battles with Schumi!!!

  • The FLYING FINN what a LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • respect

  • Legend !

  • A great driver left us with the big gap that still remains to be filled. From Schumacher Fan.

  • My all time favourite driver.... A true legend and just a super guy!

  • brilliant driver, dont think there will be a rivalry in f1 as good as hakkinen vs schumacher in a long time

  • And now Mika is divorced from Erja.

  • its so good. look at my channel i got a couple of f1 videos on there.

  • @1987PANAGIOTIS well i liken hami and button to DC and Mika mika no1 driver and DC no2.

hami no1 better than mikka for sure and button far greater than DC ever was.

Not denying Mikka is a huge talent but i do think hamilton does have a raw edge over him.

  • @stellpoons Hamilton better than Hakkinen? Are you insane? Hakkinen fought against a prime Schumi and won two world championships, Hamilton has lost the edge this year and actually this year has shown Button to be the no.1 driver at Mclaren, comparing Button to DC is utter nonsense. The stewards have pyscologically destroyed Hamilton this year, so he feels he can't even go near another driver and he will get a penalty. A prime Mika would brush that nonsense aside.

  • And lets not forget that Mika raced in a time period when "FIA" stood for "Ferrari International Assistance."

  • @hoppuss44 ...it still does.

  • @1987PANAGIOTIS yeah they got better drivers now

  • the legend. simply the best

  • great driver with great charachter

  • Mika always puts an article before someone's name: "the Ron... the Michael...". Is this usual in the Finnish language? :P

I can't agree with ThisIsJustAChannel more. As a little child, I was a Ferrari fan too, and for me, Mika made these races exciting. I actually became bored with F1 the day Mika left.

  • He's just a good guy...and a great driver!

    Whadup Mika?!

  • mika has good attitude heikki has good attitude, BUT LOOK AT KIMI HE HAS THAT SHOW OFF ATTITUDE AND ACTS LIKE HES KING OF F1!!

  • A great comeback

  • Slashbag69 . Im an aussie.. but im sick of everyone saying mark is a great guy he is this he is that, mark isnt all that of a nice guy.. its just what the media makes of him.. he has a dog side to him too. and as a driver he is Overated mate.. this will be his lat year.

  • Wonderful dude.

  • miss him so much, one of the best no doubt, his dry humour, wry smile, way he played the media and so much dignity, come back, Shcu has

  • Thanks for everything, Mika!

I hope he is making some good strides in driver mngmt.

  • why you finlands retire so early?!?!?!?

  • @matrixlalala

Mika had target to become world champion and had long thinking remember that. Motivation might have been small backround thing and the fact that he wanted to be more with his family. Kimi wanted to win title and he did it too so then he had done all things he wanted to do basicly.

don't worry there will be good finish driver's in future for sure.

and if I would have ever become F1 driver I would have retired when I have done everything I want to do. sometimes its time to stop.

  • why do you retire mika? why? why? :(

  • @mswoonc look "Googlyinns" or whatever he calls himself has a mental problem{I work in the mental health industry}, and the purpose of his "mental torture" is to cover a deep seated feeling of homosexuality, ie, he pounds the pavement rather brokebacking one of his SEAL buddies.

That's his particular motivation, so I don't find it inspiring, I see it as another person grappling with their true feelings towards MEN, and trying to find a different outlet{instead of rectum fixation} for their fear

  • Lost all respect for this guy primarily because of his "crying game"....FFS, Murray Walker nicknamed him Hankynen.

  • @MrKwameR

crying can be an express of passion.

  • Hakkinen is my favourite of all time. Absolute class act.

  • we dont see characters like this anymore in f1.

bunch of kids are on the stage. like funny hamilton or ex-rookie jbutton

  • i am like him very much as a big schumacher fan respect mika

  • Fuese genial que el regrese a la Formula 1!!!!

  • Mika Häkkinen is the best there is, F*ck the rest. I dont look F1 nomore, when he quit.

  • I went to see The Ron in the motorhome. lol

  • @REVENGE4NCE yeah Ron the Don lol

  • I've been wondering, where would have Kimi gone had Mika decided to come back for 2003? At the end of 2002 Williams were ok with Montoya and Ralf, Ferrari probably still had deal with Rubens, in terms of having good team spirit McLaren would've probably kept David as Mika is good friends with him... So could it have been that we would've seen Räikkönen-Alonso pair at Renault in 2003? :O

  • f1 stopped being fun after mika left..there was nobody to challange schumacher..always been a huge mika fan ..great man on an off the track...

  • Mika retired on top of his game. Very few drivers can say they did the same, most continued until they were not performing so well anymore. Respect.

  • wISE MAN - SCHUI THE IMMATURE DICK NEVER GREW UP LIKE mIKA - AND HERE HE IS BACK AT IT AGAIN AT 41 - JESUS WHAT A JUVENILE GIT!

  • @mallamoozoo OMG still jealous!?

  • Ron The Don.

  • "i went to see THE ron in the motorhome"

    LOL

  • Ye he won it once in his final season of Formula 1, also it was his second to last win in Formula 1.

  • I love Mika! No ego, just Go!!!

  • @lucarioguy111

Yes he has won Silverstone once at least if i remember right.

  • its time to make a name on the star

  • Hakkinen & Schumacher = best racing of all time

They are both in a league of their own.. nobody could catch them..

    Hakkinen Fan For Life!!!!

  • @jamesnuutinen Hi James, arent you forgetting someone? someone who both of the names you mentioned rank as the best of all time in their own words?

  • mika- god on 4 wheels!! he`s the reason im into f1! thanks mika

  • As a Schumacher fan, thanks Mika, Thanks for pushing Schumacher as hard as you could, you were a great racing driver, we all respect your decision, Thanks for the entertainment you gave the fans, Enjoy your retirement and maybe your child will race in Formula 1 in the future :)

  • :DD

  • "See the hugo growing" Mika, oot mahtava, ja paras, aina. Enjoy the rest of your life, and thanks for giving us, the F1 fans so much joy!!!

    Kiitti Mika :)

  • mika is the best!!!

  • Great man!

  • When Mika said that he is going to retire i couldn't accept first but when i heard what was the reason i understanded that he wants have some time with family now.

He is the best F-1 driver in Finland.

  • what really happened, his wife probably talked shit to him every day until he quit. Thats what wife's do. lol

  • hahahaha XD

  • Would love to see mika back in f1, he was my favourite driver a few years ago (10years ish) when i was big into the sport.

  • a great driver and a wise and sensitive person. Wish you best Mika.

  • "The Ron" :D

  • A devout Schumacher fan, Hakkinen was always 'the enemy' if you like. But in hindsight, he was an amazing driver, supremely fast, always calm and a perfect fit for the Mclaren team. The competition he gave Schumcher was much missed in the 2002-2004 period before Alonso.

  • Kaipaan häntä, i todella tehdä ...

Iv aina tunteneet kuilu kun mika vasemmalle, hän on paljon parempi kuin mikään shumi tuuletin, se tapa, en ole suomi! Olen englanti i am käyttäen kääntäjä vaihtaa sanoista Suomi haha Onnea Suomi ihmisiä: D

  • Always emotions pit when Mika left(direction). He is a lot better than any shumi fan(air blower), that manner, I'm not Finland! I am England I am by using translater change words Finland. Haha congratulations Finland people :D

    Couldn't agree more :D

  • hilarious results once again

  • The accident in '95 at Adelaide was scary. The in-car shot isolated we viewers from crash at the end of Brabham straight. Even F1 coverage had no idea how hard the hit was. Mika was suddenly in a coma and fighting for his life due to his head snapping forward (ne' Dale Earnhardt). 1000 days later, to the day, he won the championship. I always knew Mika had balls after his impressive run with the Lotus in '92. But to come back after nearly dieing? That takes someone very special.

  • to ajd0408 - totally agree.

Back to a top team and challenging for

4 years at top level, after almost passing away at Adelaide....

Respect to a brave man and a fair driver.

  • I mean, Schumi wins 7 champs ok, but by my side the great one, is the first in Ferrari (2000)

A close fight between two great teams and drivers until the end (Suzuka)

One reason is obvious, since '79 Ferrari didn't won the driver champ.

Second, was won againts't this Man and a team in great shape, wasn't easy.

    Respect Mika, really.

  • i think schumi in a way wanted to be like Mika, very cool-calm-collected yet strong enough to translate victories into world champion titles. maybe/maybe not, but certainly when they both retired formula1 become different for me, i don't respect the politics any more and the drivers are too seperated i think.

  • He is greatly missed. I don't like F1 anymore without Mika in. Perhaps I wasn't ever a F1 fan, but rather only Hakkinen fan.

  • Not just a great driver Hakkinen had a great personality, always willing to talk, always willing to have a laugh, F1 needs more drivers like him.

  • @wingl3ss Don't know whether you'll agree with me or not, but Mark Webber seems like he could fit the bill. Seems a really nice guy, done lots of interview and road car tests and stuff outside of Formula 1, and he's got a funny side as well.

  • 1 of the best in my books, just GREAT.....

  • this time was very very good, Häkkinen vs. Schumacher^^

  • I said my comments finish language.

  • Best guy on the grid ever. To achive what he achived, while being honest and fair-play, that was truly remarkable. That's also why Schumacher respected him the most.

  • great driver ! one of the best ever , always spectacle when he was in good shape

  • every driver that retires should make a video like this, they're so beautiful :D

  • legend is probably the most over-used word to describe people, but Mika Hakkinen is true legend

  • excuse me buzho you have a text message

  • He was one of the very few drivers who could keep Schumi honest.

Very sad when i heard he was to retire.

  • Perchè si è ritirato? Perchè non voleva accumulare umiliazioni causate da Schumacher e della Ferrari.

  • M Schumacher and Hakkinen best drivers ever!!

    Love those 2 guys

  • i think he went out much better than michael, didn't brake FIA laws like alonso and would give lewis something to learn from.

  • 1000% true!!!

  • we miss u "flying finn" thanks for the moments, f1 has changed.

  • wtf? all Finn racers are called "Flying Finn"? lol! Hakkinen,Makinen,Kankkunen....thank god they didn't named Raikkonen that way! it would get so boring! anyway. miss you Mika!

  • Gotta hand it to Finns though they sure are disproportionately talented in Motor-sport.

  • Missed!

  • a great fair brilliant driver! enjoy Mika thanks ;- )

  • A true winner. He will be missed in F1 action.

  • we love you Mika!

    Kiitos for that moments brother..

  • Kiitos Mika!

  • what happened in monaco 2001?

  • nothing special, it's just than that hakkinen said to ron he was getting tired of F1

  • Mika Hakkinen - my all time F1 favorite driver

  • hahaha "I went to see THE RON!!"

  • :)))))))))))))))))))))))

  • yep his english is not that good but he was great driver!

  • xd "the ron"

  • hahaha best quote "I WENT TO SEE THE RON" lol

  • Mika dignified the sport

  • MIKA....The one and only MIKA

  • sad to learn today the hak lost all his trophys in a house fire cant take away our memories of those wins thouugh

  • really? damn, didn't knew that, that's really a shame

  • Great driver and funny bloke, Mika interviews were often more entertaining than the actual races.

  • That was hell good racing back then. However, his interviews were, for sure, more interesting then nowdays racing in F1. :)

  • And contrast him to multi millionaire (over-paid)handsome, talented Kimi who looks like his dogs been ran over and his wife has ran off with a China Man even when he's just won a race. Maybe Kimi is a typical Finn lol

  • I went to see the ron!X)

  • I´m a Schumacher fan, but I feel respect for Hakkinen and his career in F1. It was sad to know in 2002 that he will retired from F1, between him and Michael made very close battles for the title in a short period of time. Well, that´s life.

    The Flying Finn Forever!!

  • Häkkinen was the only drive who gave Schummy a run for his money, when he left F1 it got a little boring for a while.

  • yeah he had a good sense of humor.

    Great driver.

  • +5 video! Hakkinen is one of the greatest drivers of the "schumacher era"(95-00-04)

Schumi and Hakkinen are the onlys i think, that can be considered "greats" as Barrichello and Coulthard(as Irvine and Verstappen) used to be just "2nd". In Schumi case, by contract, in Mika case, by hability.

Schumacher era was not even fun compared to others, no real competition, but Hakkinen was one of few drivers to made that era, a great era. Hakkinen rulez!(Y)

  • It's a pity saying Mika does it for his family while he is divorced now because he goes out with a 'hooker'

  • Yeah, that was what I thought too as soon as I heard about the divorce. But I hope that Hugo will make an attempt to fill his father's shoes someday. With Mika's knowledge and experience it would probably be relatively easy to make Hugo into a good driver (if he wants to drive of course) like Keke helped Nico or how any of the other 2nd gen drivers have gotten help from their fathers.

  • Really? Didn't know that. Used to think he was a decent bloke - but turns out there really are none of the around!

  • I don't think she's a hooker and I'm sure Mika is a nice guy but it's a shame he divorced his wife when the family was such a huge part of why he quit.

  • the great !

  • i remember when i was kid i was angry when hakkinen won cause i liked more to see schumacher winning, but i always liked the guy, he is so 'true', now we have had the ego montoya, the child alonso, the overrated hamilton, i see hakkinen as one of the last of that good generation, together with schumacher, barrichello and coulthard

  • well montoya's long gone, but i like raikkonen - not as good as hakkinen but

  • I hope Kimi won't do the same in 2009 when his Ferrari contract ends. Kimi Raikkonen and Mika Hakkinen are the greatest Formula one legends.

  • yes after Senna Schumi Prost Piquet....

  • Take Schumi out of the greats list. Replace him with Hill. Senna Hill Prost Piquet Rindt Fangio These are the greats

  • taskmg3... have you forgotten Clark and Stewart?

Hill? i hope you say Graham, cause Damon was a disaster.

  • Nigel Mansell

  • fuck i am a schumi fan and boy do i miss mika make gp's fun crazy @SS battles

  • such a legend

  • schumi and mika, those 2 on track was absolutely awesome . epic battles , i'l never forget it

  • Hakkinen should have stayed in F1 longer

  • When the car won't work tghen it don't work.

  • F1 misses you mika. so sad you retired so early

  • Why'd you retire Mika. So sad. F1 needs you.

  • mika, the last of the gentlemen racers

  • I could feel my heart break when he spoke about not wanting to push his luck, not wanting to get hurt, and I had a mental flash of Senna, and then Mika's own crash in Adelaide...miss you so much Mika!

  • class act !

  • Mika, You are a True champion... Miss you to this day...

I respect your decision of not racing...

because of you i started following F1 and am continuing it...

BTW, SPA 2000 race was out of this world...

  • Cheers for posting this. Always wanted to hear Mika talk about why he wanted to retire.

  • A great person, a great driver, a great husband and a great father, simply a great champion. Great Mika!

  • This is a real GENTLEMAN thanks Mika for changing my life

  • Mika i miss you!!!!i will come to a DTM race and see you in life!! you are the real and only champion!!

  • Mika Hakkinen was a real champion, so what he didn`t win 7 world titles, he didn`t always have the best car on the grid, but his character, his personality puts him apart from Schumacher and many others.Thats why I respect him

  • True words, mate. True words.

  • we will miss you very much :s

  • But Häkkinen is still driving in Mercedes Benz... In DTM. And here Finland DTM will come at Canal Sports. I don't remember would that come at Urheilukanava.

  • I recall my mother watching your commercial with Becker - she loved your smile saying "nooo"to Becker

inviting you for tennis !That was a little happy break

in her painful last days - she called you "the smiling champion"- Since she has passed away in 99 I wanted to thank you - Sorry youtubers it's sad but I

    had to =

  • Love you Mika ... you are the best F1 driver ever ^_^

and this is the time to enjoy all your hard work ...

But I wish you will still involve in F1, coz I miss to see you on television

  • Sää olit paras, ja tuut aina oleen!

  • we love you Mika and will never forget U!

I started to watch F1 caz of Mika.

  • thanks Mika...my all time favorite and my greatest F1 driver.

  • Häkkinen Com back to Fornula1 Pless

  • mika .. u come back or not .. u will always b my favourite ..

  • love you mika, misses you alot
