Question. I have to pc (vista) I followed your instruction, but one PC and go directly into the Imac inbox, but the other PC ask for a user name and password to log into the mac. I deleted the ip gateway under the workgroup name on the IMac, but the same thing happens. On Pc gets in the the other is ask to Login. I type in the Imac user name ad passwork but still can't get in. Also, is the IP gateway important, since I still can see and get it with the other PC without it? Thanks?
@pannysat Depends on the security level and settings you have set on your Network options, Public or Private which may be the issue you are encountering with Vista.
on the pc, connect to the router and go to start - run and type in cmd. u get the command prompt. in here type in ipconfig and hit enter. look for where it says default gateway and that is the ip of the router. it will probably be either 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1
