  • fuck!!! very nice camera

  • Can you fully control this camcorder manually or some things are auto, also whats the quality of the video is SD since I like DV Camcorders in SD but stretched

  • I thought he would talk about the infrared light.

  • No really, it shoots 1440x1080.

  • this is a bunch of hollow lies

every freaking tigerdirect video I've seen is like this.

at first I though it was pretty cool, but then I noticed that they tell lie after lie.

they forget to mention the quality loss that comes with using a hard drive in a camcorder

they say all cmos camcorders are good in low light, when only professional cameras have yet to reach even close to that

they don't talk about codecs or anything

they just say it's great when they have no idea what they're talking about

  • I've had one for awhile. Shot alot of video with it. This guy is full of shit. Focus sucks, color sucks, and I will NOT be buying any more sony cams. Canon, HERE I COME

  • @rcvideoshooter your not going to find anything with canon, if you do go get a DSLR for video

  • this guy look a lot like frank mir

  • I WANT THIS CAM!!!!

  • God Who Can Afford To Spend 1000 Bucks On One Of These!!!!

  • That camera is BADASS

  • could someone tell me how much this cam costs

  • @GermanEliteRacer probably around $1100..

  • how much money?

  • HD camera review filmed with a SD camera? =D

  • @RICHARDTOMLEY10WHARF its a mini dv camera

  • 2:30

    twilight ....... SPLÜÄRGH

  • HD cameras like this are still a little too much. Sony obviously make it much better, but still some point and shoot cameras Sony do bring quality pretty much as good.

  • how much is this now and where casn i get it

  • can i film on the memory-stick or is that just for pictures? Please response someone!

  • You wouldn't be invited to a party anyways

  • @5random1 Can you use the usb cable to transfer video, and does the camera put the videos into thumbnails?

  • can it film skateboarding

  • the format of this camera is Compatib with adobe premiere pro?

  • DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT CAMERAS

  • so this cam

    or

    canon hv20??

  • hv20 ftw

  • hv20 by far

  • What settings are required for the cam and PC inorder to transfer video from tape to PC? Do we've to manually play the recorded tape inorder to transfer video to PC? On trying to capture video from tape, my PC says "no tape/cam detected".

  • MINE WONT RECORD. HELP ME.

  • I see it's on a tape, but how exactly do you get it from tape to computer? I've always only used HDD cameras. thanks!

  • easy just plug it into ur computer and open ur editing program ex. windows movie maker, i movie and go to capture from device. but mini dv's capture in real time so it will take one hour to upload 60 min of footage

  • @csabo07 you do whats called capturing or ingesting. Think of back in the old days when you recorded programs from TV to your VCR. The same idea, just the other way around, you play the video you shot, and capture (record) it back to the computer. Only down side i can think of is that its real time, meaning if you shot 30mins of footage, you'll have to wait 30mins to capture.

  • Alright, thanks for the info, but I just went with the simpler direction. The Canon Vixia HF S10. hahaha.

  • I just bought one but on connecting the cam and PC with i-link cable, video is not showing in the Sony Picture Motion Browser. How did you do it?

  • Says who...? So far I like the new CMOS Sony cameras and find the smaller 1/4" and 1/3" CMOS chips produce better quality than their CCD counterparts.

  • It shoots 1440x1080 video, 1920x1080 photo.

  • I had the hc7 now i just bought the hc9 i don't use the hood because i just bought a wide angle lens with it, mini dv over hard disc any day much better quality :)

  • what lense did you buy?

  • The hood impresses friends???

What dorks are you hanging with?

  • plus dat i some shity hood lol

  • "you guys arnt crazy" he sounds sooo mad when he says that

  • Some Tell Me those It Have USB Port

  • Yes it have, but firewire pwns USB

  • USB stinks, FIREWIRE is much better

  • Memory stick is for pictures only...

  • no about 1000$

  • i got sony hdr-sr5 ,but i can't make burn dvd directly fom there? cause every file in camcoder ,the file formate is .mts which is not supported for burn the dvd . so pls let me knw the solution .thanks

  • I saw it at Best Buy for 3,200

  • its only 900 in walmart

  • wtf. 3200. it's 1100 from sony store :o

  • samsung mx20

  • mine turns green in nightshot...

  • That's the way it works. It shots with an infra red led and sensor.

  • uuuhhrhr its the hdr uurrr hd9 what a FUCKING toolbox

  • Comment removed

  • You can here a man hits something and then says Ahhhh at 7:42 listen heheeeeee :D

  • Just sold my HDR HC 7 on ebay i cant wait to get this HDR HC9 :)

  • sony has always been the best on cameras & televisions

  • @Ilir7777 no cannon has been for cameras

  • @1inspace not true, canon has recently entered in the videotheque with the 7D, 5D & 1D, which do Full HD

  • @Ilir7777 but can't be with mac?

  • @Ilir7777 there in second, canon has always been first

  • @curtismichael14 no, canon hasn't been first lol. Canon has developped a good technique since the 7d, september 2009. "has been" is not appropriate:)

  • @Ilir7777

They do have the best cameras without a doubt, but televisions on the other hand, not so much. Sony may make a good tv, but they are not as good as Samsung.

  • @userste i am not so sure. Not trying to be a sony fanboy, but sony was one of the fews to make one of the very first colored televisions, while samsung wasn't that far.

Nowadays, comparing televisions and modern technology has become more subjective because of the big amount of concurence out there. But I respect your choice.

  • @Ilir7777 Sony JVC And Canon

  • Is that a mini HDMI?

  • Hey i am having some trouble with my camcorder. if you can help then please look at the video on my profile? thanks

  • CS3 is fine for editing HD

  • error correction: The HDR-HC9 shoots 1440 x 1080i, not 1920 x 1080i

  • my Sony HDR-HC7 is cool

  • Lol can you set it to shoot at 24p like the Canon hv30?

  • Go to You Tube and search for 'Lotus and the Bee' .. This is my first attempt with the HDR-HC9 to video, capture and edit with Final Cut Express. Exported out of FCE with compression H 264 and was surprised that quality on YouTube video above approaches output to mini-DV tape, considering the video is about 2 GB uncompressed and around 390 MB compressed. I wasn't concerned about 24p and if you view the video there is really good texture throughout. I hope this is helpful.

  • does this have the Lanc port?

  • ok it does... saw it later on in the video

  • by the way,can anyone tell me how much does this cam cost?

  • 500 to 700 dollars

  • it has 20x optical zoom...not 10x -bitches :(

  • No, it has 10, 20 is the digital zoom.

  • bacuse they are just full of crap..

  • dude got this camra works great out of water but a little fuzzy in water got any ideas of making that better

  • it is NOT 1920x1080!! its 1440x1080

    CRAP!!

  • it probably a setting issue. Mine shoots in 1920 1080.

  • No tapes shoot in that aspect. It is stretched or something. I am researching further but look it up. MiniDV tapes can't shoot 1920x1080.

  • Only 1 camcorder has been able to shoot full 1080p. Others only shoot 1080i. It's arguably "full HD". Hope this helps. Hope this didn't dissapoint you! I wish it was a 1080p!

  • they now sell hd mini dv tapes. they do shoot in full hd. I bought a few and they do shoot in the full 1080p. they aren't much more than the regular tapes in price, good value. great video.

  • It has nothing to do with the tapes, the HDV standard codec is MPEG-2 1440x1080i. Some camcorders can shoot 1080p but using a nonstandard codec version thus only playable on that particular camera system.

  • Finally someone who understands HDV speaks up.

  • what output format?

  • this video shouldve been HD...

  • i'm getting this camera next month AWESOMENESS

  • FUCKING I AGREE YES,. FCK

  • Great review. Thanks.

I think I'll be buying this soon.

  • Is it possible to transfer hdv edited video file to this sony hc9 via firewire from pc.

  • Im thinking of buy this camcroder and was wondering if it works with Final Cut Express 4

  • I use the previous version of this camcorder (HDR-HC7) and I use Final Cut Express 4 and it is all good.

  • Does it allow audio to pass through the fire-wire? can you plug this unit into a mixing board and will it record the audio if audio is connected to it?

  • how many FPS?

  • Do you know if this camera is compatable with after effects. I'm going back and forth between this camera and the cannon HG 10, however, the canon does not work with after effects. If this one does, it may seal the deal for me.

  • tape format camcorders work with every editing software out there. if you didnt know that you shouldnt be using something as advanced as after effects

  • I've never bought a camera before. My apologies.

  • dont listen to that guy, he doesnt know shit. it depends what format your recording in. it will work in standard definition with any version of AE, but if you want to shoot in HD, i think cs4 is the only version that supports it.

  • Thank you. That's the information I needed.

  • no problem man, here to help:)

  • Will the camera pick up its own noises?

if i put it to record in a quiet room, will it record any noise from itself

  • how much is it?????????????

  • around 850

  • you can get it in a 160gb hard drive now !!

  • 1:25

Yeah, but you still get the rolling shutter effect

  • IS IT MAC COMPATIABLE?!?!!?????!

    ansewer please.

  • yes i have one

  • yep but you need a firewire chord

mini dv cameras are much easier than hard drive cameras on macs.

  • yeah.

  • mini dv is not 1920 x 1080 it is 1440x1080 and (upsampled to 1920 x 1080 on playback)

  • :D earthquake mode !

  • you're hilarious

  • I have an hdr-hc5 and it has really good quality. I have Hd on mine, but I cant even imagine the quality on that!

  • im trying to find a camera tht i can record for skating n does not look crappy i dont know wich one to get but if some can help me pick one or wich is the best quality camera i can buy please tell me!!i want a digital one though not a tape one

if u can tell me some cheap ones to the ones tht r not tht expensive but good quality hit me up later if u can

  • For really good quality at a reasonable price (Around $600US), check out the Canon HV30. It is MiniDV, and tape has been used for shaking, rugged use forever, and is still the choice of most professionals. I used to use a hi-8 for skate videos. Never had a single problem,

  • Tapes are more reliable than hard drives. As for which camera, im not sure. Its all personal preference and your budget. Try looking into sony's.

  • hi again. im not interested in getting vegas - can somebody tell me what sort of settings i should have for the camera and adobe premiere CS3? like compresser: Cinepak Codec radius, etc. on each of the screens? ty

  • wow awesome camcorder

  • kk, need some help.

this is how I capture stuff from my HDR-HC9:

I plug it in with a FIRE WIRE and then take the footage onto Premiere Pro CS3. Then I save it by altering the movie resolution to fix the cameras resolution (1080x something else) and save it by selecting the HD setting in one of the tabs. is this alright?

  • Real time is better than HardDrive or Memory Stick.. And it's cheap, because you only need normal Mini DV tapes for Full HD videos.. And it looks so awesome when capturing with Sony Vegas 9.0 in Full HD mode.. Try it out, it's the best solution for good HD quality..

  • im crazy

  • Hey!! I have the exact same camcorder as the one they're talking about!! : )

  • My camera.. :P Cool..

  • you posted this three times, three different ways. shut up.

  • why does it matter if it's a tape? it shoots HD 1080i resolution HDV leetness.

  • 10x optical zoom?? why not 40x?

  • I know...

    Its ridiculous...

  • Such a great camera, such horrible zoom

  • It shoot in 16:9?

  • yes

  • You can choose by yourself.. It has many features in the menu..

  • would i need a hd capture card to get footage in hd? im not sure if i have one in my pc, and the quality isn't so great when i capture it. also, when editing in premiere, the slow-mo setting on the camcorder is much smoother than the one when i set it at, say 300fps. Can somebody help me solve this problem? ty

  • use sony vegas 7.0 or smth to capture videos, it has an option to capture usual DV or HD

  • Nope, you can use a normal IEEE 1394 port to capture Full HD with HDV recordings at your Mini DV tape.. :) You just need the software, as Sony Vegas..

  • what software i can use? can i use ADOBE PREMIERE PRO CS4?...do all PC laptop come with IEEE 1394??..thx

  • Yes, you can use Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, and almost all laptops has IEEE 1394 port.. It's really hard to find one without this port..

  • Thanx

  • I'm glad to help. ;)

  • are laptop dose not have IEEE 1394 it sux

  • Yeah, "a news crew will be jealous." LOL CMOS sensors smears too BTW.

Nice camera, but hate Sony's proprietary memory Stick. That's what keeps the masses away from Sony still and video cameras.

  • Hey, I have a question for TigerTV or anyone who has used this camera. I am considering buying this camera although I've read that in some cases it can suffer from a snapping or skipping appearance while panning or tracking. Could anyone give some information on what they found with this camera. Is this not a problem with the camera? Thanks.

  • You can use regular miniDV tapes to do HD. DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON HD VIDEO TAPES. If you plan on recording over the tapes and reusing, then buy the higher prices $20 a tape ones. But the $2 sony's that you can pickup at walmart are PERFECT. I do stock videos with my HV30 and they are perfect with the cheap tapes. don't be tricked.

  • im buying one on boxing day but how to i put it onto the computer because i heard it doesnt have a cable. or can i buy a cable that does it. please help

  • It has almost all the cables included.. No need to worry..

  • hi, what would u recomend for me for example. im looking for a cam which is gonna cost me no more than £250 and has good optical and digital zoom. basicly what im looking for is a camera that will give me a bit of everything. and the cameras that use tape are they better. and if your camera records into the sd card do you loose quality of the image wile transformin your videos to your computer for instence? thanks

  • Well, it's a little bit difficult to find a good camera for £250.. But try to search for a HC7, it's the same quality of the picture as the HC9.. The only different is that the HC9 can record in a very low light.. But both of them got the Night Vision switch.. And it has many functions, that will give you the best result.. Look for the camera at Ebay.. I have seen the camera to £180 at Ebay, but it's a while ago.. Try it out.. It's the best camera for this money..

  • Whoop's, there's some spelling failures.. I'm in a hurry.. :P I hope that you will understand it..

  • Its like 1,000

  • found it online for 399

  • OMG DUDE PLEASE TELL ME WHERE YOU GOT IT FOR 399 PLEASE TELL ME..cuz im gonna get it from XMAS..PLZ DO ME DUDE

  • dick smith electronics in new zealand. thats like 250 american dollars. no way near 1000 dolalrs

  • wow are you serious dude where can i buy this at

  • is the len worth it?

  • k can u put tapes on your computer can u watch movies from the tape to the computer some how

  • i have one ^^

  • Its 1440 with rectangular pixels not 1980 as with all HDV tape camcorders.

BUT, the best thing about this that he didnt mention is that you can recored HD video and take 3)4MB stills at the same time.

The birthday cake senerio, where you want to record the singing etc. but want a picture too.

  • he mentioned no special tapes to buy but i believe if your wanting to record in HD then you need to spend more money on the HD mini DV tapes. I have a camcorder from back in the day using the regular tapes so i doubt i'd be able to record over them since they arent HD tapes

  • really awesome

i want one of these :)

  • thanks to you im buying it!

  • im going to get a fisheye lens but i need an adapter ring. I looked onto the sony website but couldn't find what size. thxs
