Critical to attracting new businesses and residents is minimizing government spending and controls. Education is such an easy banner to speak of the good for the children. Throwing money into public schools does not guarantee that children will be 'well educated' and that the state will prosper in return. Bottom line: don't spend money beyond your means and don't play into arguments that the state must 'invest' in education blindly. The kids that will be paying taxes some day expect that.
