  • I too had to get my hands on one of these after watching your video! It's such a great toy/instrument - lots of fun and the sound and the rhythms are pretty good. I got mine on Ebay by chance, it doesn't have the blue strip with the numbers like yours though, but never mind.

Thanks for the video from a huge Kraftwerk fan :-)

  • Back in 1984 I worked at a seafood restaurant and had a bad boss named Romeo who used to stay there after hours and have sex w/the waitresses in the booths. My roomate at the time had one of these things and I composed this ridiculous tune on it called "I Hate Romeo".

  • Damn those BeeGees are cutting edge. Just looked on Zzounds and could not find the BG rythym machine listed!! I read somewhere that Barry Gibb actually did the R & D on the prototype??? I want one real bad....

  • Cool. Never saw one of those before.

  • Nicely VL-1-ish :op#

  • Is this baby monophonic?

  • hail kraftwerk and the mini keyboard, hail youtube for harboring crazy geeks like the guy who made this video! :)

  • Never knew they did it on that! Just a square wave really isnt it.

  • @thenos4rat2 They sure as hell didnt use a BeeGees Synth!!!

  • I just sold the one I found at a thrift store on ebay for 200.00

  • Wow, that keyboard reminds me of the Casio VL-Tone used in Rational Youth's Cite Phosphore video!

  • i had one of these a few years back. sold it for £200

  • incredible! rockin dude!

  • Well done!

  • koooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool!!!

  • I can just picture Ralf & Florian giggling over this thing during late night sessions in Kling Klang. Sequencing, Drum-machines, Synthpop, Toy-instruments, Electro, Beats, Vocoders, Computers... is there any area in electronic music these guys didn't explore a couple of decades before the rest of us?

  • Can you do this on a normal keyboard, if so, What are the keys for it

  • awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you rocks!

  • sounds like the sound you get from electronic birthday card..lol

  • I've been waiting for one of these to pop up on eBay for so long.

  • It's really the exact thing used in the live on Kraftwerk so awesome :D

  • heh, cool stuff.

I thought they made all their own instruments and that

  • i think they made some of them, like the drums, etc.

  • It's surreal to watch a video on youtube of a guy watching a video on youtube. Kraftwerk forever.

  • @Mugicha808 I know eh? I just caught on to that!! To understand recursion you need to know recursion ;)

  • @Mugicha808 INCEPTION!

  • you win !

  • The tiny keys would explain all the slipped notes - but they sound great anyway.

  • haha i have one of these bee gees keyboards, but i cant tell what notes your hitting

  • F,G,D,D,C,F,G,C,C,B

  • Dude I love Kraftwerk!

  • NO WAY! Is that what Ralf is using on stage as well - painted black? You got the riff and tone down really good, and is really eerie the similarities!

Do the Gibb Bros get a cut of that action? LOL

  • Yes, it was the exact same machine, obviously with the Bee Gees logo removed because well...they're not the Bee Gees.

  • You wouldn't happen to know the other devices the guys are playing for this song? I'd laugh if they were all 'toys'.

  • I believe at least one of the devices they used was a Texas Instruments Language Translator (and in all likelihood an actual pocket calculator). It was not uncommon for them to use circuit-bent consumer electronics, a practice that is still widely in use today.

  • If Kraftwerk were the Bee Gees, they'd be singing about love and relationships, they wouldn't be singing about pocket calculators.

  • lol

  • Nice :)

  • Wow! Is it possible to order such a machine from somewhere? Where did you get that?

  • classic

  • Sweeeeet man!

  • I've got one !!!

  • Hey!!! i have a BEE GEES Rhythm machine among my loads of toys! is anyone interested?

  • ME!!!

  • Me too

  • peahix thx! u ar the best!

  • "The other hand-held noisemakers are a Stylophone, TI Language Translator (same sound chip as the Speak & Spell)," Now I understand what was making that synthetic voice in the Pocket Calculator video, I don't remember seeing a Speak and Spell in the video, thanks for clearing that up. I LOVE KRAFTWERK. I have the CD version of Computer World, but I don't remember seeing a picture of the keyboard in question on the album cover.

  • I must be a geek at heart because I loved reading your notes on this video. Very interesting to know what they were doing to get these sounds.

  • I used to own a Bee Gees Rhythm Machine. Now I really wish I still had it.

  • Kraftwerk! My greatest musical experience.

  • Modern Archeology - Retrieving an icon of Electro Pop.

  • Lol i saw that exact same stupid to "bee gees" keyboard in the rock and roll hall of fame GIFT SHOP in Cleveland. They wanted like $500 for it.lol That's dope that he busted out Kraftwerk on it though!.

  • It's fuckin' awesome!

  • I WANT IT!!!

i'm the operator of my pocket calculator

  • That's so cool, my favourite Kraftwerk song. Does that keyboard have any beats? That's the sort of thing I like to see.

  • yes, it has some cool beats, but i didn't include them here because kraftwerk didn't use them. maybe sometime i'll make another shitteo w/ a demo of the beats.

  • Not easy to play on such small keys, eh? Been watching some kraftwerk jamming on youtube, now it's the time to look where i left my kraftwerk CDs :D

  • ahhhh... now that's what i call "out of this world" i did something similar with my kasio. wanna see?

  • alot of time on his hands - he could have been out producing GDP

  • Very intersting. also funny to watch somebody on youtube watching somebody on youtube.

  • Fuck groovy... dan spiel wir ein Kleines musik schtuck

  • I heard that, at this time Kraftwerk were building their own instruments. the look alike and sound is pretty close; isn't it ?

  • they were building *some* of their own things, ie the elec. percussion units, but they mostly used stock gear.

  • @peahix They use Sony Vaio computers and Edirol keyboard controllers. They may do their own software but regarding hardware they never builded anything. Kraftwerk is composition and simplicity.

  • @vjrei They built their electronic drums (read I Was A Robot by Wolfgang Flur)

  • Awesome, very good, congratulations!!! =)

  • either u have enormous hands or those keys are incredibly tiny..... or a combination of the two.....lol

  • It's a chemical reaction from the plastic, it makes your fingers swell up!

  • It's not a piano.

  • c'est bien!!!Il reste plus qu'a rajouté les percussions!

  • The funniest thing is that Kraftwerk actually used a modified Bee Gee's as an instrument..

  • You're right, this is a black belt-level display of musical/tech geekery. Nice job!

  • damn i really want one of those...badass

    were can i get one

  • A video of someone watching youtube on youtube!

don't you it can make space fold on itself and create a time distortion leading to the end of the world???

  • lmao you'll crash the bloody internet!

  • Cool!.

  • extra it sound like the original ^^ Kraftwerk use also wierd toy on the music dentaku as percussion .

  • Awesome, geeky, I love it!

  • Fantastic!

  • Could you give me the notes to this? I want to play it on accordion...

  • Great!

I think that is a little bit hard to play it, but anyway you get it!

    Well done!

    Gabriel Lehto

  • Excellent.
