Nice! Clearly he is very relaxed, and the trainer is taking her time. I'm curious about the ages of the participants (do zorses become more difficult as they get older? ...and would I (50mumblemumble) want to train one? I have used some clicker training techniques on horses (and dogs, and pigs), and that does work well, though I have heard one excellent Hollywood trainer say he never uses treats.
@iTheFoxyGirl if i recall correctly it had something to do with swords in the cavalry. it really shouldnt matter now, unless youre wearing your sword ;)
Loved this vid, I am trying to breed a zorse, looking for a suitable mare at the moment. What was ZJ's mother like? I would like to correspond with you if you would consider it.
I've read that the best horse training is not very exciting to watch (was it Monty Roberts who said that?). A lot is going on here. The deep trust and affection between human and animal. I love this training approach--repetition of the new thing, interspersed with lots of lovin' as a reward. His mouth says that he is processing it every time. You already have a solid partnership going here. Great job!
this is tru..but this zorse...was very relaxed to begin with...she could have popped right on up therr...not make an 9 min vid about a very small step..
@kneller420 You don't know that. This whole procedure is about building trust and getting the horse to listen to you on the ground first before you embark, so that you can eventually take 10 seconds to mount.

@yunderup - it's correct to mount on the left side. I don't know why but it just is :)

I personally would have taught the horse/pony/zorse/zonkey aka any sort of equine to know how it feels to mount both sides.

@kneller420 Move too fast, and you undo months of training. Just sayin.

It struck me that you got nervous thinking about mounting and it made him concerned so he had to back up to check in with you. What a sweet critter!
