Leo is just a symbol for traits that people from that certain birth period share. Lions are leaders, as are a lot of people that are Leo's. It sames appropriate to pick a lion for Leo's because that we have personalities such as lions. Not that we are lions. And as for the sun, that describes the lion that describes us.
