  • What brand name or company made this roll? I like the arrangement!

  • Nice job! It's great to save something like this, isn't it. I presently have a work in progress Baldwin project myself. I've retubed the tracker and it works, but it will get better. Also am working at a Aeolian restoration. That one should be awesome. These are my first projects also. Keep at it and post more music. Has a great sound.

  • Ukulele Lady is an old evergreen song by Gus Kahn and Richard A. Whiting. Published in 1925

  • wow, I'm impressed...you saved her, and you did a nice job...were'd you find the info about repairing it?

  • a good book called player piano rebuilding and restoration by arthur reblitz. i highly recommend it, it helped out a lot and leaves nothing out.

  • i have a player, but its a pianocorder.

  • Very nice job of recording.

I've just started work on my first player piano rebuild. Unfortunately, my valves need to be replaced.

  • I have been searching for this tune for a year! I just found a copy at an antique mall for two bucks! It's Rialto, Roll # X5800. All it needed was a little repair work on the right edge of the first 20 inches and it plays perfectly! Your post inspired my quest to own this roll!

  • Sounds great. Tempo is right there and the key is perfect.

  • Actually that tempo is about right. I've been gulity of playing some of my rolls too fast in my postings her which is largely due to an ungraduated tempo control dial on the Kimball Electromatic. I'm in the process of acquiring a 1920's upright so... out goes the Kimball!

  • i wouldnt chuck the kimball, just relegate it somewhere. i think the sound that comes from a big upright cant compare to a spinet. even if the upright is out of tune, it still sounds richer and more full in my opinion.

  • My patience has paid off. I am in the process of having a 1925 Grinnell Brothers upright restored. Hopefully it will be ready by the end of summer. I anticipate re-taping all I've posted here and adding many more tunes.

  • verse 1

i saw the splendor of the moonlight

    On Hono..lu..lu Bay

There's something tender in the moonlight

    On Hono..lu..lu Bay

And all the beaches are full of peaches

    Who bring their "ukes" along

And in the glimmer of the moonlight

    They love to sing this song;

    .

  • Nothing better than gems such as these.

  • I finally have this roll. I searched long and hard for it and it finally came up on e-bay.

As soon as I get my 1928 Stroud Duo-Art restored it will be one of the first to be played. I hope it sounds as good as yours.

    Thanks again

  • The Tempo is perfect!

  • The tempo seems just right to me!

  • Sorry for asking that last question .. I just read all comments and it was the first question. Thanks

  • Is that a QRS roll and if so what is the number of the roll ...love that tune on a player. Thanks

  • Absolutely amazing! Great job on the restoration.

    I am looking for one.

    Thanks for a great show!

    KWG

  • And by the way the tempo is perfect for a slow fox trot

  • Congrats you got a lot further than i did - Zefren

  • very lovely, you should post a video as to how you did it...that would be interesting!

  • VERY nice rebuild, and it's great to actually watch the pneumatics do their thing. The roll is quite good too.

  • Nice post Mr K- I have a nice hallet and davis with Amphion player for sale- for you- free! ;)~ aint moving a b---h and for pianoman-- just mark the locations and make new pneumatics- you just need a drillpress and a small portable planer-sure beats the hassle. you can make a new set of pneumatics in 1/3 the time.

  • I've just set up to start rebuilding pneumatics on a Cable Company's Euphonia. I had plan to follow L.Givens' instruction but am interested in your advice to build new ones. Do you have any readily available info e.g. type of wood, hinge material, etc?

  • use poplar available at any lumber store- Lowes or Home Depot. Plane the board to the correct thickness, then rip into strips the correct width, then cut to correct length (178 total) drill the supply holes on 88 of them using a multi spur bit (never use a spade bit) drill 2/3 way through one side then flip and finish drilling from the opposite side for a clean, splinter free hole. remember only 88 get supply holes. Givens is ok but Player Piano Servicing and Rebuilding by Reblitz is best.

  • Thanks for keeping it from the dump.

  • nice to see the pneumatics move too, on most players you never see them play.

    thnx for this video...

  • this was an odd baldwin because it had unit pneumatics. between each was a large washer and a nut to hold them to a brass manifold by compression. it made recovering a breeze and remounting wasnt a hastle either.

  • lucky you, I had to break all the pneumatics off on my Hupfeld, I haven't looked at the Aeolian yet, I hope they're gasketed

  • i went digging in my box of old rolls and found it!! its an imperial roll number x5800 copyright 1925.

  • Nice arrangement of "Ukelele Lady"!! On what roll brand does this appeaar?
