  • Racist!

  • oh no no no, President Obama is the best president in history!! Can't you see, he's black! He knows much more than you or anyone. He's Jesus Christ come back to earth as a muslim!

  • @canisdormit LOL good one, mate. I, myself, know that the last people's president was John F Kennedy and he didn't last long. All puppets that were put in place after are nothing but obedient servants of our "true masters." Obama even has a handler in the White House. All these foolish Americans need to wake up, but unfortunately, they never will and will continue to be enslaved till the depopulation efforts of our "true masters" take full effect on them.

  • Why not make it a law to have free air at every island instead of paying 50 cents to go to the crappy machinne. This would solve the issue.Insted people are lazy and run their tires low for weeks or months at a time and burn more gas.

  • Drilling in Anwar would NOT add 3-4%. That oil would go into the international oil market, not just US gas tanks. That's a slightly complicated subject, so the media just leaves it out for the dummies.

  • also vehicles only use 20% of the crude oil is used for automobiles. so to say that this affects the use of crude is also ludicrous

  • Either way it goes people still need to inflate their tires properly anyway, forget actually crunching the numbers and tryna make Obama look stupid, ok obamas numbers was off, so fuckin what he still made the best point, people need to take care of themselves and their vehicles

  • @TWill16 yeah why fuck around and believe numbers or your eyeballs?? wtf you need your brain pressure checked your abusing the iq points god gave you.

  • @TWill16 Obama was right. Putting more air in your tires is like putting solar on your home. I inflated my tires to the proper PSI and now when I drive, m tank keeps getting fuller. Ever so often I have to syphon some out and sell it back to the gas station. They're paying me now. It's wonderful!

  • @earlyhemibill lmfao that's funny as hell hemi lol

  • give it up CHUBBA...mcnugget lost

  • nicely done. obama is a dumbass. stop the war on terror and sending boats planes and vehicles to iraq and that would be a huge difference! no one looks at that! Theyre all power hungry and he isnt any different, just skirts around all the real issues like every other leader.

  • i dont understand a word he said

  • You're ignoring the fact Csere, that procuring more oil only slows down development of advanced technologies which lessen our dependence on oil. Meanwhile, Obama offers a good and valid CAR tip, but you still poo-poo him because you don't like him. Since you're bringing politics into an auto forum anyway, I'll go ahead and say that the first time I heard McCain address us on TV, I couldn't believe any single person would possibly be stupid enough to vote for him...again!

  • Oil industry has in its pocket car and tire industry.

In essence Obama stands correct. The numbers are not necessarily accurate but the idea is. At 31-33 PSI , the recommended car manufacturer pressure, a tire is grossly under-inflated. Considering that nowadays every tire can run on 41-44 PSI, every PSI between 31 and 41 will increase a car's consumption with 0.3 percent.

  • Try running your tires inflated to 41-44 psi and see how long they last. So how many barrels of il are used to make new tires. Hmmm.....

  • I am running on constant basis my tires 10 PSI above the max recommended PSI marked on the side wall. In our Advanced Tactical Driving course I tell my students to put between 5-10 PSI over. I am using this method for the past 15 years and despite we are driving the tires to the steel belts (during the training) , I never-ever had a tire blowout.

  • did u really say your name was chab-ba chair-ah? i always read it CAHS-SABBA CA-SEER.?.? I stand corrected!

  • so by matroxs' logic the daily show was treacherous from 2000-08. when someone's wrong; they're wrong! don't get butt hurt when your savior flubs

  • This guy is an automotive expert (I've been reading C&C for 15 years) citing statistics to support a mathematically accurate result. Touchy-feely ultra-liberal scum is SOO afraid their savior may have made a mistake, they actually make pathetic attempts to debate the point??

    AWESOME

  • I absolutely can't believe you people are still saying, well what about Bush, he was much worse that Obama could ever be...so does that really justify your choice for the guy? That's a little scary sounding from this end. I can tell by your comment that you listen to the news and the presidential debates to make up your mind for your vote. I didn't like McCain at all but judging by everything Obama has done and what he plans to do he is absolutely nothing more than an extremist version of Bush.

  • HAHAHAHAAHAH!!! awesome! hes outto lunch alright....idiot.....

  • hahahahahaha...Hey dumb A-Hole I AM BLACK! so exactly what race card are you referring too? And you use they same old tired line of i've been a Republican for 40 years, and i guess your best friends are all us negro's? you're nothing more than a lying joke here A-Hole! You are the exact whitey we cant stand or trust!

  • Global Warming is the new "big lie" of the century. If you honestly believe any of the politicians are worried about it look at what they drive and fly.

  • you cant just assume one tire, or by how much, statistically this is all conjecture. im AP statistics student and this is a funny little review, you cant just make up numbers like that, what is 4 tires are down 2psi instead of 1 tire down 10 psi, also depends on what tire you run, sidewall size, tread type, what kind of rims and suspension components all play a factor in this. everybody should read the book "how to lie with statistics" quite the eye opener.

  • Well I am in AP Stat as well as 60% of my class, big whop. And, I don't believe that sidewall size has anything to do with the fuel economy, nor does suspension or tread type. If you lose 30% of your air, you will lose that percent.

  • That only shows how little you know about automotive engineering. You may be the statistician you claim to be, but you sure as hell don't have a solid grasp on the science of tires and how they relate to the cars riding on them.

Sometimes silly questions deserve silly answers: Csere was merely giving the most optimistic of views here to give the audience an idea of just how ridiculous Obama's suggestion is. Even with completely impossible pie-in-the-sky numbers, it's a stupid claim. Period.

  • Considering that his comment has 3- and yours now has 1-, I would say that you guys are wrong. I don't think that the editor of the magazine and the 9500 people that have watched this, and the 74 people that have given it its 4 star rating are wrong. You are insane and need to chill out, whack job.

  • make that 2 thumbs down

im in stat currently too you arse

  • Wait who were you talking to?

  • Me? My comment was in response to bg1379.

  • I want to clarify my statement, I wasn't as clear as I should have been. I was replying to bg1379, specifically his comment that the construction of the tire would have no impact on the PSI relating to gas mileage. I didn't mean to imply that the differences in types of tires would affect the statistics. I'm just trying to say that tires are built differently, and that certain degrees of PSI would alter your gas mileage differently depending on the type of tire. I'm sorry for the confusion.

  • Hasn't anyone else noticed that Csere is engaging in a bit of factual slight of hand here? The eruption between Obama and McCain was about offshore drilling - not drilling in ANWR - two completely different things. So, all the statistics Csere sites about potential production from ANWR have nothing to do with the Obama/McCain tire inflation debate. This is especially important because, at least up until the last time I checked a few minutes ago, John McCain OPPOSES drilling in ANWR.

  • Csaba-Good logic. I still support Obama, however, because I get the sense that he is more ready to seriously invest in pragmatic alternative energy sources than McCain. Wouldn't you agree this is important to America's future? I still cringe at the tire-pressure gaffe but I don't believe it's representative of a broader lack of engagement with the issues on Obama's part.

    -10 year subscriber to C/D

  • "actually probably"

    C'mon. Sounds like a flip-flopper to me.

  • Why does the videographer zoom in so tight on these Csaba Csere videos?

"I'm ready for my close up now, Mr. Demille!" ;)

  • IDEA ... become a Community Organizer and get a group of like-minded Libs and go around your neighborhood with a tire gauge and an air-pump (preferably hand-pump) and check all your neighbors air tire pressures and make sure they are all at proper levels. Wear a sign that you are saving the U.S. fuel supply by the service you are doing - AND add a VOTE FOR UH...BAMA sign to your forehead!

  • Wow... really? Yes of course the planet goes through and has gone through natural climate changes... yes there are other events that can change the course of nature... the big difference is none of those happen in under 1000 years... let alone 90... please take a vacation and explore your world... explore a library... educate yourself and don't just listen to the propaganda that put forth by the very corporations trying to pull the wool over your eyes. Look up extinction level event.

  • Read "orgin of species" then war will make more sence

  • sence? Or sense? Nonsense!

  • i support obama but i we seriously need to start drilling now.

  • My new placard for Global Warming or Climate Change or whatever you want to call it...

    LESS PEOPLE, MORE EARTH!

To save the environment we must start exterminating people. CAROUSEL (see who gets that) - Let's start with the people who care most but are the biggest hypocrites - AL GORE!

  • Obama has enlightened me we should vote for the Michelin Man.

  • Pollution is different from global warming...i am against global warming completely but even i agree that pollution of water and landfill alternatives must be found.

Again, just because people say global warming is real over and over again doesn't make it any more true...the world was once flat you know =)

  • Additionally if you venture out into the world... even if you don't believe in climate change or mankind's detrimental effect on the Earth... explore the world, go to a country affected by climate change, or a country that has been ravaged by pollutants, oil speculation, or resource hunters... it's jacked up and the evidence is clear

  • Exactly how does oil speculation ravage a country? Anyone?

  • Bad news lib, archaeologists just found reminants of a flush, populated jungle under the saudi desert. Now, how could they possibly have decimated a jungle if they didn't have cars? Could it be that the planet goes through these changes naturally?

  • Yes it's a parody piece for a Sci Fi TV show I am working on... it's not serious. As to the other comments... serious research has been done on climate change but also and more importantly global level extinctions of all sorts of life world wide.

  • The USGS and NASA, both take their orders from the executive branch... every single other scientist, world wide agrees that we are at a global tipping point, that our planet is in crisis and it is because of us. Global warming, massive extinctions, etc... if you don't believe in Global warming take a trip up north... you can watch the ice melt.

  • So, there really isn't 500 more cubic ton's of polar ice than there was last year! The sun doesn't really go through periods of variable activity! The fact that Mars, Mercury and Venus have all experienced similar rates of climate change to ours is beside the point! Yet Greenpeace funds some Community College professor for a year and You buy his report hook line and sinker!?

  • Okay, on another point, tell me that Mott julian thing on your page was supposed to be funny, or something. Otherwise, you have lost all the credibility you even think you had!

  • " . . every single other sceintist, world wide agrees . . .", . . massive extinctions . . take a trip up north . . watch the ice melt . .".

    MottJulianFanClub . . drink the koolaid homeboy . .

Dear Lord . . please tell me that you did NOT create man in your own image. I just can't believe this dude remotely even resembles You or anyone else. Are you seriously that easily confused, taken, railroaded, hoodwinked, bamboozled, run over, sh!t on,and yes swiftboated (sure you like that one).

  • 'Well whatever we do... let's make sure we can still drive our cars... which don't seem to have anything to do with green house emissions and the problems that our world is facing.' Whatever... this is a load of BS... let's have some real solutions like alternative energies and alternated vehicles.

  • So drilling in ANWAR and messing up the environment even more... is the best solution? How about if everyone carpooled? Or rode mass transit? Or a bicycle? Are you telling me that the editor of CAR AND DRIVER... CAR AND DRIVER, doesn't have another agenda?

  • As far as I can tell, Obama has o plans to do away with cars, just oil. So, what exactly is the difference you think it will make to a magazine?

  • You know what would solve Global Warming? Exterminating PEOPLE! Let's start exterminating people where the population is too big or where they are polluting the most! ;-)

  • Csaba Csere,"Senator Obama is out to lunch." GAME, SET, MATCH.

The USA sits on top of 2 TRILLION barrels of shale oil and 75 Trillion cubic feet of gas. At current consumption rates, enough for over 274 years.

  • You should've mentioned two other issues.

    1. Getting everyone in the US to properly inflate their tires is an impossible proposition.

    2. Just because we can save gas by inflating our tires doesn't mean we can't also drill for more oil.

Why are these two clowns our only option? I'm still throwing my vote away for Paul.

  • You really have little knowledge of this matter. Anwar would not come into full production for 7-8 years but we could be extracting huge amounts of oil from the Gulf in a matter of months. The infrasturcture is already there. China and Russia are doing it now. None of the alternatives would be able to replace even a small fraction of the energy provided by oil for far longer than 7-8 years. Sure we need to do everything we can do develop new tech but nothing is going to replace oil anytime soon.

  • i just canceled my subscription to the magazine and youtube channel. hope it was worth it, C&D...

  • Csaba Csere," Senator Obama is out to lunch."

But wait Csaba, under B.Hussein Obama we`ll have oil gestapo green shirts checking your tires while you`re in your office and posting fines on your windshield. B.Hussein Obama`s energy plan is to take over the energy industry. It`s his HillaryCare program.

  • "Obama will do what JFK did ..."

Based on what track record? He's never done anything but run his mouth. So how do you know? Based on how he runs his mouth my observation is Obama is as arrogant as Bill Clinton, naive as Jimmy Carter and socialist as LBJ. Beyond that who knows what this clueless waif would do. Good grief.

  • Obama running his mouth? Are you ignorant or just stupid?

Look up how many negative ads McCain has. Look how many times McCain has stated about 'when I'm president', had 'President McCain' in an ad, or even just remember that speech about how he would solve all the problems of the US in one term.

It's my observation, and one that I can support with actual videos, that McCain is the arrogant one.

Oh, and why would we drill somewhere that would save us mere pennies on a gallon of gas? Pennies!

  • Baloney, the USA stis on top of 2 TRILLION barrels of shale oil. At current consumption rates, enough for 274 years.

  • All I know is that the GOP Drill Drill Drill...Bush says Drill Drill Drill and the price goes down...gee wonder what would happen if all the Dems said Drill Drill Drill too...stup fucking Democraps...Blame them for you high fuel costs!!!!

  • Wow. Imagine what would happen if we did both!

For the record, at this time McCain still opposes drilling in ANWR. It is OCS drilling that he is pushing for.

  • america wake up and boycott this idiot and their magazine think of all the trees they waste to print their crap

  • you are a tool and probably a republican and with the business you are in more oil keeps your job status healthy but the planet still suffers why dont you advocate more technology with electric and and alternate fuels such as the tesla car? but that would mean all those big car companies wouldnt want to give you big money for reviewing their coffins

  • The Tesla is a beautiful car, but it doesn't pollute any less than an ordinary car. All-electric vehicles simply MOVE pollution from their tailpipe to the power company turbines. Electricity doesn't just appear from nowhere, it must be generated. 49% from coal, 20% from natural gas, 20% nukes, 1%+ from petroleum ... 70% from fossil fuels and 20% from nuclear. I know the freakishly far left hates all fossil fuels and hates nuclear -where do you propose to get all the new electricity you advocate?

  • wind and solar are two you did not mention also wave power might seem far fetched but we put no thought into thinking outside the box its time to change the way we think about energy as a whole and you are right about the pollution transfer but at least it is a step away from the ICE( internal combustion engine) and I am not far left I am just tired of paying the government and oil companies billions in profit for the privilege of driving

  • I can't say I like paying high prices or high taxes either, but if a company cannot make a reasonable profit on their product, don't expect a practical solution to our energy needs. While Exxon has made boatloads of cash, their profit margin is just under 10% (while they paid triple that in taxes). When enough money can be made by an invention that replaces fossil fuels, we will have the invention.

  • Until then, we have 240 million cars and trucks that need gasoline/diesel. We won't be off of oil anytime soon.

  • Senator Obama laid out a comprehensive energy plan. One person in a Q&A asked what she could do individually and Obama said the experts say properly inflating your tires can save 3% in fuel. The AAA said so. NASCAR said so. Obama is not an automotive engineer, but he was just answering a young woman's question. He was not making this cornerstone of his energy policy by any means. McCain has dishonestly misrepresented Obama's position and blindly follow. I am canceling my subscription.

  • You lefy out something very important! He said EVERY EXPERT agreed with him! You are the one being dishonest, but then again seeing LAWYER in your user name; its no surprise..:)

  • People, Csere simply stated the facts. Americans love their cars. Why the hell do you think we continue to pay over 4$ a gallon for Gas.

Many Americans keep there cars in good running order. Coming out with this attitude that every on else doesn't do it is flat out arrogant and like Obama flat out elitist. Obama is assuming every car on the road is under inflated which, like a vote for Obama is just flat out wrong.

Hey Libs, in the middle of summer turn of your a/c and roll up your windows.

  • I liked how you based your entire video on data and not emotional gut feeling. I don't care for either candidate, so criticizing one with logic does not bother me. Good video.

  • Whew, you should stick with print.

  • Drilling in Anwar will NOT result in USABLE oil for roughly 10 years since it must be refined and we don't have enough places to refine quick enough. And of course not everyone in the U.S has under-inflated tires, but that's a non-issue, the fact is that a good percent do have under-inflated tires and inflating is an inexpensive alternative that should suffice while we pour money where it really needs to go: Alternative energy research.

  • Good thing Clinton Signed the Veto on Anwar drilling 10 years ago. Not. Exactly how long will it take to get enough alternative energy online to replace or even reduce oil dependancy? > than 10 years. There is not a magic bullet out there. We need to drill for oil and should have been doing so all along. Obama is for lack of better words, an idiot. It is embarrassing that a Presidential candidates energy plan is a tire gauge. With out oil the country will not have economic growth.

  • Idiotic statement alert. His energy plan is not a "tire gauge". Maybe you should actually read something instead of listening to Fox news and McSame.

Incase you missed it, drilling for oil does not solve the problem of getting off of our oil dependency. All it will do is serve to prolong it.

If you honestly think drilling will lower the price of oil in the long term, you are wrong. The reason being is that people's attitudes and behaviors will change back to the pre-2002 ways.

  • We do need to develop new technologies but that will not help us any sooner than drilling in Anwar would. The only option that will provide substantial relief in prices any time soon is drilling in the gulf. The infrstaructure is already there and we could extract huge amounts of oil in a matter of months.

  • Forget the drilling. We are in 2008. There is no reason why we shouldn't have the technology to get the hell off of oil already. Bush said we're addicted to oil and then he wants to drill. I guess he's our dealer.

  • You are clueless. Like it or not, oil is the lifeblood of the entire world's economy and anyone who thinks there is anything on the horizon that is going to change that in the next few decades has no idea what they are talking about.

  • For more evidence of underinflation in commercial fleets, look no further than our highways, littered with debris from tire blowouts, the overwhelming majority of which are due to underinflation.

  • Sorry, not true. All that tire debris you see on the road has nothing to do with underinflation. Those are re-tread tires flying apart because they are not as stable as new tires.

  • "The true culprit is improper tire maintenance, particularly the failure to maintain recommended air pressure in tires, states Harvey Brodsky, managing director of the Tire Retread Information Bureau (TRIB), a non-profit, member-supported industry association dedicated to the recycling of tires through retreading and repairing, and to promoting proper tire maintenance for all tires. Tires that are not properly maintained will fail and it doesn't matter if the tires are new or retreads."

  • Excuse me, omcx1, but you need to check your facts. The Technology and Maintenance Council (TMC) conducted studies in '95 and '98, finding that "90% of tire failures [resulting in roadside debris] were caused by underinflation."

I've been a professional truck driver for 10 years, and prior to that learned the value of preventive maintenance as a professional mechanic. How long have you been a professional nitwit, omcx1?

  • I have been working on cars since the late 80's and tell me something...have you ever seen tire debris on the road that was not from a retread? I didn't think so IDIOT.

  • I think you have neglected to factor in the energy required to both produce and redistribute the oil. While still likely a net energy gain over tire pressure, it is somewhat unfair not to tally the losses on that side as well. In any case, this is all rhetoric from both sides. The true essence of the argument is conservation vs. production. More production will only lower prices if it can outstrip consumption. Without improved efficiency and simply using less, this seems an unlikely outcome.

  • Csere's "safe assumption" that commercial fleets keep their tires inflated because "they're businesses," is both uninformed and naive. I'm a long-haul trucker working for a large fleet and rarely do I hook a trailer that has properly inflated tires. Anyone who sees the majority (sadly) of truckers "thumping" tires with a hammer, club or boot, can tell right away that pressure is not being checked anywhere close to accurately. Is Csere "out to lunch" or is he promoting an agenda?

  • I'm glad someone from the industry finally chimed in. I had my doubts that an entire industry was 100% accurate with everything they do (with special regard to tire pressure). I can't count how many times I've seen a truck on a highway belching thick black smoke and that is just one clue that attention isn't being paid to the health of the vehicle.

  • John McCain crashed 3 Navy jets at at a cost of 50 million dollars (before he was shot down in Vietnam- no problem with that).Back then we could have built ten more elementary schools with that money.

In the 5 years he was imprisoned he wrecked no jets and served his country well. <= so you can't attack me by making something up.

So Csere sums up that we would save 75000 barrels of oil with Barack. Good.

And McCain wants to drill all over the place like a drunken sailor. Bad.

  • Not a trace of logic here. Man it is scary that people like you are allowed to vote.

  • And that is why Senator Obama has agreed that we need to allow the oil companies to drill offshore and also use the thousands of acres of leases that already have been approved for domestic drilling by the oil companies. Check the facts please,

  • You check your facts. Obama did not support offashore drilling until he saw that his position was killing his chances for election. Just one more position he has changed. The talk about all the land "leases have been approved for" is a democrat smokescreen. None of those areas are viable for drilling. That is why they are not being used now.

  • You win the inflating your tires hairsplitting anal award. But the real point of Obama's argument is we need to end our addiction to oil and having to go to war or give our money to despots who use it to kill us. People are dying out here and it's not because of tire inflation. It because your still living in the freaking petty out of date past. Wake up and smell the stench of the rotting corpse of a presidency. Focus on the big picture instead of this petty crap about tire pressure.

  • The important issue here is, Obama continues to prove just how misinformed he is, and how ineffective his leadership would be. It has nothing to do with tire inflation. He should just stay in the Senate, another place where his record is a joke.

  • You're so right. Leave the energy policy to all the oil guys. Bush and Cheney and Co. They've done such an amazing job.

  • You really have to give it to Bush. Our gas prices are 2x+ they were before he started... i suppose he's helping to save the environment that way

  • Yeah, b/c the democratically controlled congress has NOTHING to do with high gas prices.

  • OPEC conrtols the price of the barrel of oil! It has absolutely nothing to do with Bush, or any other govt entity! Bush did however did a presidential order on lifting the drilling ban put in place 30+ years ago. Your Nancy Pelosi has not and will not put an up and down vote in the house to lift the ban; why? Because she knows it'll pass and the barrel of oil would immediately drop well below $100! Blame your 2006 democrat take over for the high prices!

  • Erroneous on all accounts. Lifting a ban on offshore drilling would not "immediately drop" oil prices. Oil takes time to be refined into usable fuel. In fact, you would not even be able to predict what would happen. OPEC (as a whole) controls a good portion of the world's oil reserves and if we decided to drill for oil and increase our production, what would stop them from colluding and lowering their output, thereby keeping our supply at the same level? What if consumer attitudes reversed?

  • ... and they started to consume more gasoline and oil? This would drive the price up.

As for Bush: he used a presidential executive order to attack the country with the second largest reserves of oil on the planet. The war in Iraq has disrupted the flow of oil to refineries as the Iraqi Army destroyed many oil wells and pipelines in their own country, much like they did in Desert Storm I. The country was destabilized and this contributes to the lack of oil export.

  • Bush got rid of Saddam, his son's, and his army! Why no mention of Iraq's 80 billion dollar surplus? Why no mention they are producing 2 million barrels a day? Why no mention Iraq making a deal with China? Iraq under Saddam was selling to countries like, France, Germany, China; NOT THE USA! There is no shortage! more than half a barrel of oil goes to other products; plastics, asphalt, tires, pharmasuticals, propane, ETC..NOT GASOLINE!! Saddam burned his wells 15 years ago, not us.

  • How exactly do you sell to a country? You sell to businesses and they distribute.

And no one ever said we purposely destroyed anything, but you don't think bombs always land where they should do you?

  • You sell to a country, when that country runs that business! You believe Venezula, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Russia, Syria, Egypt, and many other countries; in which the govt owns and runs th eoperations, answer to anyone? I bet anyone here any amount of cash, that if the house and senate vote to remove the ban on drilling, the price drops below $75 a barrell in less than 2 weeks, and go back to around $60 in a month! THEWRE IS NO SHORTAGE MORONS!!

  • It's hard to address you in under 500 characters when you're just so incredibly wrong on all sorts of levels.

  • Well G.W. did come out and lift the ban, and its gone from $147 to $114.25 at the close today! All in 3 weeks!! Thats a 21%+ drop, we've curbed our usage by only 4.5% Sounds like you're the one who hasn't a clue about wrong and right?? Doesn't it make you wonder why Nancy Pelosi and Harry Dean wont tell the house and senate to come back into session, do a vote, and see what happens? Why is it you dem's blamed G.W. and he lifts a ban, it brings the price down, then you give him no credit.

  • I don't know where you get your news, but last I checked the offshore drilling ban hasn't been lifted because it takes an act of congress to do that. Yes it was passed in the house, no it hasn't been passed in the senate. Go pound sand idiot.

  • It starts with the presidental executive order MORON! The House and Senate under the Democratic leadership wont do a vote, because they know it will pass and the price will come down dramatically! Why are you so f*cking stupid to see this? Now go write your letter to Santa and ask for a freaking brain you MORON!

  • But the move, by itself, will do nothing unless Congress acts as well to lift its own drilling ban. There are two prohibitions on offshore drilling, one imposed by Congress and another by executive order signed by the first President Bush in 1990.

"When Congress lifts the legislative ban, I will lift the executive prohibition," Bush said in a statement in the Rose Garden.

  • Your original post claimed that because Bush lifted the Executive ban on offshore drilling it actually had some sort of effect on the amount of oil we are getting. "Well G.W. did come out and lift the ban, and its gone from $147 to $114.25 at the close today". It did NOTHING.

  • And being you are calling this a debate...Show me some numbers you say, the affect on the amount of oil we are getting! I give you concrete proven facts on pricing!! You give me hogwash guesstamets, on supply! I shouldn't be surprised at your ignorance, but at the level of stupidity you are showing us here; its rather shocking.

  • You quoted the price of a barrel of oil, good game. You MUST be right. All I'm doing is providing "guesstamets, on supply!". No, I'm not providing any facts or analyzation, just hearsay you would find in any level 100 macroeconomics book. By the way, did I mention I have a bachelor's degree in Economics? What do you have? A bachelors degree in being a troll on the internet and a sore on the sac of America. Keep voting Republican. They did a great job the last 4 years.

  • You have a bachelor's in Economics and you don't understand how Oil is a global commodity? You don't get that no matter how much you drive, it won't effect the supply needs of foreign countries? Where did you go to school? The price is going down because the speculators know Bush will make good on his promise to increase supply around the world, by drilling the vast resources we have. It's a fact!

  • Bush himself cannot rescind a CONGRESSIONAL ban on offshore drilling. If congress doesn't want to unban it, it doesn't matter what he wants. He can lift the ban his father put on offshore drilling, the executive order, but unless Congress lifts its own ban, it won't do a thing. What you just stated about a global commodity is redundant. Of course our demand isn't going to effect someone else's demand. That's like saying everyone has the same price because of it's global market.

  • Oil prices are going down: 1) We are driving less reducing consumption and demand for oil 2) Saudi Arabia has increased its supply 3) Speculators in their market are betting that US government will cave and allow oil companies to drill on the OCS 4) We are transitioning into the fall temperate months when oil demand is less. 5) The Down Jones has been recovering over the past month 6) The buying power of the dollar has increased. Rest assured that the price will be driven up come winter time.

  • Also the dollar has bounced back from its summer decline to Feb 2008 levels, also contributing to a decline in the relative price of a barrel. There is more here than just blaming Democrats for problems that were started in a government run by a Republican majority.

  • I'm just saying you can't blame things on republicans, seeing as how that's not possible given the timeline. Yes, Bush alone can't do squat, but the fact that the market responded to merely the suggestion, imagine what will happen when we actually drill. And thank you for pointing out that true progress in this issue is being held up by congressional forces, under the most liberal bunch of bastards ever assembled, and not republicans

  • Seeing as how you reiterated my case of Oil being global, you know that the US dollar value has a minimal effect on the price EVERYONE pays for a barrel. Nor will the minimal amount of conservation an american can economically withstand do anything. How's about, the US becomes the world leader in production, and the next time a demand crisis hits, we can take care of it ourselves without having to beg the Saudi's. And save the Global Warming rhetoric! I'm a biochemist, it's all bullshit.

  • That's actually extremely FALSE. Without looking up exact numbers, total American consumption of gasoline has declined about 5%, which is a significant amount. Also, because oil is measured in USD, it becomes a hedge, much like gold is.

  • it's measured in US dollars, so what? It's still more expensive no matter how you pay for it! We can't conserve our way out of this! People still have to get to work! Bus routes and telling everyone to buy a brand new car with untested technology in the next ten years is no answer! Increase supply until we get something real! (Better than only having energy when the wind is blowing or it's sunny out, I mean!)

  • Just face facts bro, this guy and many others out there are exposing your candidate for the ignorant liberal that he is! He's wrong about Global Warming according to NASA and the USGS. He's wrong about our economy's ability to get off oil in 10 years. He's Wrong about foreign policy (just look at how much effect his request for a cease fire from russia was). You can posture around it all you want, but it's there for all to see.

  • Mr. Pimp . . I'm totally a fan . . . You've got them with their heads up their butts looking for a clue!

  • Thanks for the support brother. It's easy when the facts are on your side.

  • It's easy when you ignore the truth and believe fallacies.

  • That's why Obama is such a good public speaker! Thanks for clearing that up. Oh wait, Obama just flip flopped again. I guess even he doesn't buy his own bullshit.

  • I go by day to day commodities!! Thats the real bench mark for supply and demand, which gives an accurate price! You come in here and lie about some unearned degree, expecting all to believe your B.S. As i see from other comments you've fooled no one FOOL!

  • depace: "No, I'm not providing facts or analyzation" ???? WTF??? ANALYZATION??? THAT SEALS THE DEAL. YOU LOSE YOU Fing MORON. NO COLLEGE GRAD WOULD USE THAT WORD. THAT MEANS THE FEELING YOU GET WHEN YOUR BUTT BUDDY GIVES YOU THE WOOD. I BELIEVE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR "ANALYSIS". KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

  • Maybe if you had higher than a second grade vocabulary you would know that analyzation is a word. Try google searching it sometime or checking any of the free dictionaries out there since you are obviously too poverty stricken to afford one.

  • Seems ironic that a liberal would be making fun of my financial situation? AND, I think I've found the errors of your ways. Google is nothing but a search engine. It is not a fact checker. Read it again . . I NEVER said that ANALYZATION is NOT a word. I said a college grad would use the more accepted grammatically correct ANALYSIS.

  • That's your problem is that you think anyone who doesn't agree with you is a liberal.

I agree with a lot of different people and I don't label myself as anything in particular because it's idiotic to do so.

  • Wrong, the increase has not been steady, nor can it be traced to the Iraq war. 2003 oil price was $30 per barrel. Opec vowed to make sure the supply remained steady to make up for the Iraqi oil while we fight the war. They ratcheted their production back down in late 2003 when it looked like Iraqi oil would be back on line, but it got sabotaged by the insurgents from Iran. 2006: Oil was only $70 per barrel. After Dem takeowver: $140. The US doesn't need more, the world does. We can provide it!

  • Also, the policies, practices and wars of the last four years were in full swing when the Democrats won a majority. Do you really honestly think they stepped foot in office and the oil price shot up? Think about it.

  • WTF is wrong with you . . G.W.B. lifted the ban and it dropped from 147 to 114. IT DROPPED! Markets are forward looking. The lifting of the ban caused speculators to pull money out hence the price fell. G.W. lifted the ban BEFORE the falling in price began. Now Congress needs to do the same and the speculators will do the same and the price WILL DO THE SAME . . DECREASE!

  • President Bush lifted an executive order banning offshore oil drilling on Monday and urged Congress to follow suit.

However, the move is largely symbolic as there is also a federal law banning offshore drilling.

How many times does that need to be posted for your idiot brain to comprehend? Just because two things happen at/near the same time doesn't mean they are linked. Correlation versus Causation.

  • Do you understand speculation? Every business channel has talked about falling oil prices due to speculators pulling out of the market after the president lifted the ban . . assuming congress would do the same.

  • Sad to see a 42 year old act like a 12 year old on the internet, honestly. Maybe if you set foot in a college classroom you'd have the kind of education you need to actually debate this.

  • You're not debating!! You're trying to throw insults, and rants, which doesn't coincide with what debating means. It must be tough to be wrong on this issue, and not knowing how to deal with it..lol...Then again i believe your here just to be one big pain in the ass.

  • Oh here we go, the lib kid who sat through hours of indoctrination thinks he knows something. Look kid, Those who can't do, teach. Those who can't teach, get tenure. Your professors are nothing but hacks. Get out into the real world for a few years, and you will actually learn something. Or you can be afraid of a little challenge to your ideas and stay in college forever, like your professors.

  • Maybe you can't read very well, but I clearly said I HOLD a degree... not I'm still in college. I've read numerous books on the subject, I guess all the top US economists are hacks? They must know nothing compared to some troll on the internet.

  • All the economists I have read, even on MSNBC and other left leaning news sources have agreed with my view, not yours. The only ones out there saying any different are Obama's political advisors.

  • depace . . you are out of your league . .. He owns you!

  • You could not be more clueless. Where do you get your info? Al Frankin? The high prices we are paying for gas are the direct result of DEMOCRAT policies that cater to their special interest supporters and stick it to the public.

  • Then explain why when the republicans had a majority in congress and also held the presidency the price of a barrel of oil quadrupled.

  • technically the massive rise in the Oil prices has occured under the watch of the pelosi congress. But, actually it had nothing to do with anyone on the US side. The demand in China and other developing countries has skyrocketed, and The single largest Oil producer, OPEC, decided to choke off supply. The US has the ability to become just as influential in the global oil market, but we are too pussy to drill our own resources. That's it.

  • Use google and search for the history of oil prices. That's just a patently false statement. Oil prices have been steadily rising since 2002. Also, OPEC hasn't decided to "cut off supply", infact, Saudi Arabia decided to INCREASE the supply and it barely had any effect on price of oil. Yes, the demand in China has had a large effect on the global market, but the fact remains that we attacked and disrupted the second largest producer of oil.

  • This is all a moot point anyway... drilling for new oil now will not help us for many years to come. First they will have to find just where to drill, then build the oil rigs, a time consuming task, and take them out where they go and then it will finally get to us. A trickle at first and more as more rigs get built. It will either be one of these guys second terms or some other guy in office when we see anything from new drilling. Proper inflation of our tires will help us right now, today.

  • Let the middle east countries run their oil rigs dry and then the US will be the only source of oil in the world and all that cash will come flowing back. It's a classic move of using up their oil first and keeping ours for later when it is really hard to get.

  • Wrong. We could be extracting huge amounts of oil from the gulf in a matter of months. The infratructure is already there. I can't believe we are even discussing something as stupid as Obama's ridiculous tire inflation idea. Even if it was even remotely true it would not affect the price of oil at all. Increasing supply would have a huge affect on prices and that is what needs to be done..

  • Right... now if you educate yourself you would know that they are not just talking about drilling more in the gulf, they are talking about drilling on ALL the coasts of America where there is NO infrastructure. Plus do you honestly think that oil companies keep a bunch of spare oil rigs sitting around doing nothing but costing them money??? The price of oil is already coming back down with no new oil from the US, it was all just BS money makers screwing us all to make a buck.

  • Now, I am not for Obama or McCain, but I am for the Democrats this election because the Republicans have screwed the pooch for the last eight years and it is time to shake up Washington. And honestly McCain has not impressed me one bit. Obama does stick his foot in his mouth on occasion but not as often as McCain and his non-stop attack ads. Proper tire inflation will not really effect the price of oil in the long run, but it can have an effect what the average person pays at the pump right now.

  • But wait--we're supposed to just assume that drilling in ANWR will produce 600,000 barrels of oil per year? I don't think "everyone agrees" with that at all. Tire inflation and tune ups will definitely conserve a significant amount of gasoline, a fact that Csere can't deny. Mr. Csere should apply the same scrutiny to the ANWR numbers.

  • Not to mention that net "production" caused by conservation are immediate while drilling will take a decade to produce any results. Hopefully in a decade there will be fewer jerks commuting in SUV's and equating penis size with engine displacement.

I do enjoy the stupidity though!

  • "I do enjoy the stupidity though!" Obviously. Drilling in the gulf will produce the greatest affect in the shortest amount of time, by far. Most of the cars that have been sold in the last 8-10 years do not require tune-ups for 100,000 miles and many tell you when your tires are low. This is the most stupid thing people have ever discussed.

  • Listen, someone asked him what they could do to help save money on gas. He just suggested the normal rudimentary things to do. It is not his energy proposal. It's really not a big deal.

  • But making the insanely stupid claim that it would save us as much gas as drilling in the gulf and Anwar would produce makes it a big deal because it exposes him as the most inept, un-informed person ever to run for office. Thankfully, more and more people are figuring that out.

  • This video highlights the "let them eat cake" attitude of Barack Obama. Americans are more adaptable to market pressures than they are given credit for and will adjust their driving accordingly. To dismiss the notion of extracting resources within the United States is to deny real wealth to the population, and to aggravate a national security and economic issue.

  • Yes. We should never keep our tires inflated. That is a bad idea. You should be president.

  • Politics and logic are silly to talk about in the same sentence.

  • Well said.

  • Screw you guys! So you are going against what so many experts have said? Even Schwarzenegger, NASCAR, and the Bush Administration supports Obamas words. I think you just lost a long time reader! Road and track here I come.

  • What? Schwartzeneggar, NASCAR, and the Bush Administration have come forward and supported this idiocy? Whan did you dream that?
