Great - and original - track; thanks for posting. 'Sipping back the Mosel' (Sangiovese actually) at the Palmers Arms Dorney last week with music by Paul French - perfect.
I heard this song on the radio one day in 1979 and went out and bought the album. The whole album is superb, with memorable songs, well written, produced and performed. I haven't heard any of the tracks from it for years, but I still sing them constantly and pretty much know all the songs by heart. Good stuff.
I remeber this from seeing my first ever gig... ELO wembley 1981 Time tour and the fantastic Voyager supported them. I remeber this song and bought everything they did. still have it all on vinyl plus the best of and Eye contact cd's. wish id known about the reunion thing last year, would have been there!
@surgenor41 Indeed,Friday December 4th 1981 was my first ever Arena concert.(Only my second ever concert,since seeing Elvis Costello and the Attractions back in March at Hamm Odeon).I was excited to see Voyager as the perfect build-up to what would be a phenomenal ELO concert
My favourite song of all time, bar none!!! If there's any other interest (and Paul French allows it!) I could post a unique video of Paul French (keyboards/vocals) and Paul Hirsh (guitarist) performing this together in London on July 4th 2010. They got together for the first 'live' reunion of any kind since the early 80s. A superb duo set of retro-Voyager, plus songs from the fairly recent album, EyeContact.
Boy, I never saw the video. Thanks for posting. This reminds me of those hot days sping 1979 when I used to do my Newspaper round in Abbey Wood, London, singing this song to myself as a teenager.

What a top tune, it sure brings back some great memories. Any ideas where I could buy a copy of this song (or the album)... sadly It's not available on itunes. Im in Oz.
Great song! Never seen the clip, thank you. I had it on Bullseye too! I had no idea they were English (hey, I was 8 years old). We Aussies do have excellent taste in music LOL :)
@davadlee hi you can buy it on CD direct from Paul French's website. It's £10. I bought it and was here in a flash! I have it playing in the car all the time now!
wow retroj! I am in AUstralia but from Dublin...had no idea it was more popular here than in the UK and Ireland. IU was a radio DJ when this song came out...my God, they were so talented!
I used to live a few doors down from Paul French when he used to live in Newbury.. It was great listening to Voyager practicing in the "Piano room" which was the converted garage in Paul Garden God this takes me back!!
God I loved this song and the album, just heard a couple of other tracks on another site - wow some of them sound just like Keane, I wondered why Keane struck me as so 80's. Great to see/hear this again.
One of THE greatest pop songs EVER. It should've been HUGE all round the world...and probably will be one day...some scuzzy no-name band will re-record it and get it played on 'Lost' or something...wish I'd written it!
@luvnikkiminaj
Are you perhaps thinking of "All Out of Love" a pop–ballad by Air Supply?
Surely not - this was released in 1980, a year after Halfway Hotel!

Paul French a true talent. Check out his solo 'Life is Grand' and with Windmill in 1969 'Big Bertha'

Lyrics are not accurate on that page though. For instance it should read 'And life ain't so hard on a credit card' and not 'is so hard' as written
