as a mexican student ill tell you what makes me angry Horne, people like you that complete ignore the contributions of american citizens of miniority background to THIS country so fuck you
The reason that we need ethnic studies is because the general Social Studies curriculum in America does not teach appropriately and accurately the many ethnic groups that make up America. There is no one "culture" that immigrants need to learn, people seem to forget that there were American Indians, Mexicans, African Americans and Asians here since the making of America (and before). It would benefit all Americans to learn about all of the United States history not just the glorified parts.
Send emails...consumerinfo@azag.gov make phone calls to Tom Horns office daily, 602-542-5025 to stay strong... Get rid of illegals . Don't give up Mr. Horne, Americans are behind U. These lowlife leeches need to be thrown over the border.
Round up these leaches & deport them NOW! nothing more than a line-jumping, law-breaking, Welfare, food stamp, entitlement-demanding sissies . Americans R - SICK of supporting them. Keep yelling, all the way to Mexico
@onstageagain not all Mexican-Americans are from Mexico or undocumented. some families can trace their roots from way back when California use to be Mexico. remember, most of the southwest USED to BE Mexico. America would have not been created had they not stepped on a few other people to get to where they are. The true Americans are the Native Americans, who also never migrated anywhere, they lived right there where your house is. White Europeans took everything away from them.
@ortizk805 I know history. Mexico never owned the sowest US. Land was inhabited by Indian tribes, till Spain conquered & took the land. Spain had "2nd dibs, & gave the land to their Mexican children, who had 3rd dibs, then lost the land to American colonists 4th dibs! Mexicans didn't exist before Spain came. Mexican history is only 500 yrs old. Native tribes now called Mexico, did not live on what's now so-west US. American Indian tribes already settled on these lands.Im native Cherokee.
@ortizk805 Mestizos lie about their rights to the land their white Spanish fathers stole. Their claims to the so-west are an insult to American Indians. The American Indians were on the land 1st, for thousands of yrs. The Aztec & Mayan tribes lived further So. in what is now Mexico, where the mestizos belong. My brother in law, married to my sister, law firm in Oklahoma City office covers that area & heads the BIA , " Bureau of Indian Affairs" He's also a full-blooded Lakota Sioux.
@ortizk805 CA originally belonged to the native Indians. It was 'stolen' by Spain, who passed it on to Mexico, who in turn got the land stolen from them by the U.S. The original owners are the native Americans who inhabited the land prior to the European conquest.
It was Spain, Mexico claims it was theirs. THEY ARE WRONG! The so west belongs to America now. I live in so Ca, not northern Mexico! Illegal is ILLEGAL, not Immigrants . And there are plenty of these bastards here still leaching.
We have our own country And latinos have thier own country if they want to live here they have to learn our culture and our language and if they don't like it they can return to thier country and practice thier language and culture. You don't see americans flocking to thier country doing what they are doing here.Multiculturalism does nothing but divides us period.
I don't understand, I am in college taking a chicano studies class and a survey of United States History. There is very little mention of minority involvement in the Survey class. They made a brief mention of civil rights movement but no mention of chicano civil rights they focused on the black movement. I'm mexican american and CONSTANTLY notice that the majority of history classes neglect to mention any minority besides Native Americans and Black history. We need ethnic studies.
Now he has been elected to be attorney general and joined up with Jan Brewer and Joe Arpaio to start the racist supremacy movement... Arizona is starting to become one of the worst places to live.
If you disagree with Tom Horne on this issue, then you don't understand what he's talking about ... he is FOR the kind of diversity that HONORS each of us. Please, look into this with more depth. The "experts" speaking against Mr. Horne are not telling you the whole story ~ check your sources!
Mr. Horne, you're concerned about dividing kids? Should Pres. Truman have abolished the military instead of integrating it? Should all state & local gov'l institutions have been abolished in the South, or was it correct to integrate them instead? Btw, In other contexts, "La Raza"(& it is LA Raza, not "Raza") means the race, but in this context of discussing people of Mexican ethnicity, it's a nickname for the Mexican people(PEOPLE, not citizenry, it refers to ethnicity, not to any citizenship)
@TruthSeeker24 Rand supports the face that you need to advance yourselfs, not the whole group. She says you can do these acts without mindless indulgence and harming your self in the end. Rand also supports the law and advocates following it.
He or Tom Horne distorted what King said. Before he died, MLK believed that compensation treatment was needed for minorities and the poor. Extreme individualism leads into not realizing the social reality of people. Extreme collectivism doesn't realize the individual nature of human existence. This is what King taught beyond a fragant get up by the bootstrap naive perspective.
This is bullshit. I'm sorry, but American textbooks put ANGLO studies before EVERYBODY else. They totally ignore everybody else and condition children into ignorance. It's like when I come across white racist online who claim Africa nv had any civilizations.... smh. This really isn't segregation, it's celebrating diversity. We don't all have to be the same in order to be equal.
I cant even see the argument here, it looks like everyone wants to bring up the past, if anyone does history they should know that the U.S. had a war with Mexico and won territory. Mexico and the U.S. where both founded on the killing of millions of native people and slavery, if any one should be pissed off, it should by the indigenes peoples and slaves of the Americas not Spanish and English people. Were all on a tiny egg spinning through space so grow up.
Mr. Dyson just tore Horne's ass to shreds. Mr. Horne cannot site anything related to ethnic studies besides comments from a few individuals that has nothing to do with ethnic studies as a whole. Not to mention Horne says that he doesn't believe that tax payer money should be wasted in these classes. Is he saying certain ethnicities in Arizona don't pay taxes? He also says that he opposes raza studies for chicano kids, etc, then contradicts himself to say anyone can take these classes.
Fucking racists Anderson Cooper, and Michael Dyson, the segregationist fuck face socialist swine. Typical liberals trying to keep the brown people doing the dishes and mowing the lawn. Fuck you Anderson Cooper, and Michael Dyson you sack of racist shit!
@contrerasm06 Sad to say people in the 60s were more conscious. today our community will protest for a few hours and then go home, play videogames, drown ourselves in chip dip and continue having babies before graduating from high school. We latinos need to wise up, organize and unite with white workers to take on the growing fascist tide.
Notice how the guy on the left side of the screen is reasonable and sincere, and clearly has the best interests of the students at heart? He believes that they can achieve anything they set out to. The guy on the right side is angry, confrontational, verbose and full of empty rhetoric. In short, a racist revolutionary. Honestly, which would you want teaching you children?
@gorillamummy the guy on the right side is passionate and angry that they are dropping something so imporntant. Which do you want to teach the children? The one who believes in what he teaches. Not some apathetic guy trying to anvance himself in the govt. positions and make some money while doing it?
What the Hell!? are they going to burn books next? Dang Az. ,Embarrassing!
better elect some competent folks Next Time!-- Catch up with the Rest of the World! you are going backwards ~! when wack-jobs like this get laws passed..it just serves to mobilize the majority of Normal Freedom loving Americans even more to Vote!
You obviously don't understand what Mr. Horne was taking issue with. The TUSD LaRaza Studies program was blatantly racist and did not belong in the public school system. It took a lot of courage for him to take a stand against it when he knew there'd be shitwits like you to cry about it and call HIM a racist. LA RAZA is racist idiot.
@TheJomogogo you are such an idiot seriously...La Raza is just another type of ethnic studies program that is latino by tradition not by definition...it is opened to all the students. Just like any other ethnich program, it introduces the minds of students to the history of other cultures of the world. Universities teach programs like this one such as Latin American studies, African Ame. Studies, etc. and no one ever had a problem with that...only close minded ppl of Arizona do.
@TheJomogogo thats what Im talking about just another close minded person...did you even go to college, I think not or otherwise you would know that those clases are nothing like the kkk...seriously??
look up the "Raza Studies" curriculum for the Tuscon Unified School District this is what they are trying (and rightly so) to ban in AZ as a taxpayer paid program. Raza Studies is taught by openly Marxist, ethno-centric teachers whose sole purpose is to promote Chicano supremacy. Take a look at TUSD RAZA STUDIES. Dyson is one of the reasons why one should not spend tuition dollars at Georgetown....go to Hillsdale instead.
I would understand if these classes were ONLY for the people of that certain race but that isn't the case. Everyone who is willing to learn about these oppressed groups are more than welcomed to. So I really don't know what the problem is, and I cant believe that their trying to limit American History! I just think that this guy and every other clown out there trying to pass ridiculous laws are just trying to make a name for themselves and trying to make it in History!
A classic book burn. Who new Arizona and Nazi Germany had so much in common? Frankly, if Arizona was smart, they'd leave these Mexican American studies classes open, and use them like the Nazi's used the "showers" in their camps. Get all the "suspect" illegals in the same room and deport them in one clean sweep. C'mon Arizona. Embarassing.
Anderson Cooper is so blatantly liberal that I am glad his ratings have suffered tremendously. This other professor is simply a race peddler and as a college graduate it is very sad that these radicals have implanted themselves into our school system. Thank you Mr. Horne for speaking common sense and telling the truth that you should judge a man by the content of his character and not the color of his skin.
@BrngBckOldCOB When you look at me i cant hide that i am Black. I dont want to hide that i am Black. My blackness is not only tied to the color of my skin but it is a huge part of my identity. Black history has a huge impact on my identity. When i learned history in school it was European American history with a sprinkling of Asian, Hispanic and African American history. Oh then around thanksgiving we had our dose of Native American history. Is that what we want our children to learn?
@chcl8kiss Of course you shouldn't hide that you are black, nor do you have anything to be ashamed of. The point Mr. Horne was making is that these classes perpetuate a division of the races. Instead of teaching these children of predominantly hispanic descent that they are individuals and have all the opportunity to do what they wish with their lives, they are teaching them that they are victims and there is "no hope" for them. It's sad and sets these kids up for failure.
@BrngBckOldCOB The classes were not segregated. these were classes to all students of all races so how does that perpetuate division of races? if you go to the Tuscon School district website it says the vision of the Mexican American Studies department is " dedicated to the empowerment and strengthening of our community of learners.Students will attain an understanding and appreciation of historic and contemporary Mexican American contributions. "
@BrngBckOldCOB When Dr. King Jr. said "we should judge a man by the content of his character and not the color of his skin." he did not mean we should be colorblind. weather you want to want to believe it or not the color of a persons skin plays a huge part of their identity.
