@akaRightWrong Becoming a nun is a choice women make to enter a church order formally, often to dedicate their practice, time and concentration to becoming closer to their God. Most every church and religion has a form of dedicated service. Consider Shaolin and Buddhist monks, Muslim imams, and Christian priests and friars.
It is a personal choice; not a decree by church or state.
If there are examples of forced religious service though, please tell me to further my knowledge of this.
@AExodus7 being a nun is a forced religious service, if it wasn't forced, then why don't they allow those poor young girls to marry or have kids. i'll make sure i fight this injustice.
@akaRightWrong That is ludicrous! Religious women have to apply to join a Religious Community. They not only have a noviciate which lasts at least a year they take temporary vows of 3 years to see if Religious life is their calling. Even after taking permanent vows many sisters have had their vows annulled and gone back to secular life.
Nuns are the first individuals who have been scientifically identified with an interesting quandary: how can full-blown physical manifestations of Alzheimer's be present while the individual retains remarkable intelligence?
The Nuns have extraordinary mental alertness, are active and live in a supportive community.
i think its got something to do with being relaxed. so many people now are stressed out of thier minds, have poor diets and despite technology supposeing to take workloads off they actully just make life more complex and fustrating.
An excellent introduction to these famous nuns. Apparently we are watching the first individuals who have been scientifically identified with an interesting quandary: how can full-blown physical manifestations of Alzheimers be present while the individual retains remarkable intelligence? All youth who see this video will not realize that they are observing extraordinary mental alertness in these Sisters.

@gearbuzz Have a look at Mario Martinez's book on psychoimmunology - he discusses centenarians, including these sisters. Very interesting stuff.

It's nice to study each sister as a tree. I hope they take some serious account of the forest of their practice as religious.
