@illbethatguy His character is magnetic for me. The charm, the sense of calm and ease he exhibits, those shifting eyes of absolute observation; these near intangibles are how he stands out as remarkable.
I never 'liked' country music back in the 70's, however, I did like one, this one...just wanted to thank you for giving me this excellent song, that I still love today!
David didn't do right by not using your REAL last verse. I liked it better than what he change it to. Sorry Steve...he should not have done that to you.
@BlizzDawg I hated it when they closed down the Armadillo too....Google DAC........better yet, don't. I am still having nightmares about that man. There are benefits to getting older....you get smarter, well, at least most of us do. Unfortunately...DAC......oh well, I guess we all can't grow up...sigh. If you look him up, Midnight Blue was a VERY early cable show..I mean..EARLY, when cable was only avail at night. Mormon? 7 Wives?? Sheesh.
@dalet63 It was from 'Bobby Bare & Friends". Although I do have the original show, without time-bar, this is raw unedited footage ie not as broadcast (hence the time bar).
What an absolute delight! He has such soul ful eyes that are full of mischief and charm. I never knew he wrote the fabulous song: City of New Orleans that I recently just "re-discovered". I was a little young when he was doing well, but some of his songs stick out in my mind and I never even knew it was Steve that wrote them. I'm so glad that I re-discovered him. I'm sorry he's passed but his musical legacy lives forever.
Steve Goodman was an incomparable stage presence, a musician of unerring artistry no matter what genre of music he played - and he could play them all, blues, rock, country, pop, jazz, et al., - a songwriter who used insight and humor equally well in his lyrics, and most importantly, a wonderful person. There was, and is, nobody like him; he was a true original. His time on earth was way too brief, but he left us his amazing catalog of original tunes and his beautiful smile.
@hsad1234 actually he's poking fun at country's past in a very reverent way. he was a huge fan, and very decent human being. he used to tour with jethro burns of homer and jethro. i'm sure he would appreciate your compliment
The perfect country and western song. Older facebook people might recognize it. It's a great song and I would have to agree that it's the perfect country and western song.
man, Steve Goodman has some creepy eyes. Genius though. Watching videos of willie nelson, jerry reed, johnny cash, and etc, just reminds me so much of my dad, r.i.p. He was a country singer songwriter from New Orleans and I remember him playing these songs around the house. Oh well. A beautiful time in America, never to be seen again except for on youtube huh, thanks youtube.
Steve was a blast to see live in the early 70s! Steve, John Prine, Bonnie Kolac, the Holsteins, and the rest of the folk club scene on Lincoln Ave. were one of my favorite memories of that age.
@helmuttdvm Ditto. I never realized till years later how much good music and talented people I saw at Somebody Else's Troubles and the Earl of Old Town in the 70's.
@d088808862 In his case, he knew it was coming. Maybe that frees a person in a way, to do what's in his heart & soul. I remember seeing him on Soundstage with Arlo Guthrie & Hoyt Axton. What a show.

Steve Goodman was a satiric musical genius.
He made people feel good about being mocked.
And he had the chops to back it up.
I miss him.
He was the best of the best.
