I never have been able to sit and watch the passion, not because I don't appeicate what Jesus did but because it breaks my heart to watch him suffer so horribly at the hands of people he came to save,oddly as I watched this I wished there was somthing I could have done to ease his pain somehow.

crown of thorns piercing his head, whips tearing his flesh, nails barried deep... but the very thing that put the most pain in Jesus' senses is the fact that His Father took His eyes away from His son while He is suffering on the cross. my thoughts on this is that i personally believe that the largest difference in christianity and other religions is that other religions is based on what we can do to get to God. Christianity is what God did for us to allow us access to Him. Sin needed a perfect lamb (Jesus) to be sacrificed to cover our sins permenantly.

Jesus was the only person who was/is able to do that. the fact that He loved us enough to do so never ceases to amaze me. As for your other question about Jesus crying to God as to why God forsook him. God is perfect. When Jesus was crucified, all the sins of the world(past,present,and future) was thrust upon His shoulders on that cross. Since that happened, i believe that God couldn't bare to look upon all the sin concentrated so much. Jesus felt God look away and cried out to His Dad.

it's a reference to psalm 22 where it starts out with being 'forsaken' by God. but it goes onto say 'our fathers trusted in You; they trusted, and You delivered them.' ultimately, that psalm is saying that God really protects us when it looks like he forsakes us. also, Jesus had to bear ALL the punishment for our sin, which includes being distant from God. and no, he didn't cry out to another god, he cried out to God the Father.

he was forsaken by God then because God is perfect, at that moment Jesus had the sins of the world upon him. God cannot look upon sin, which was why we needed Jesus to come and take our place. When God looks at christians He doesn't see us, He sees Jesus, because it is by his blood we are saved.
