@davwuh the best of gabe's ROH booking blew the water out of the best of russo's unfiltered ideas in wcw. The only reason why he was good in the WWE was McMahon was there to filter his crap out.
@newagepun That's such a typical brainwashed smark point of view, the amount of times I've heard people say Mcmahon was Russo's "filter" is ridiculous.. get an opinion of your own instead of just re-hashing other people's. If Mcmahon is such a genius filter how did he let things like Katie Vick or Mcmahon vs. God, or Hornswaggle being Mcmahon's son pass? Give credit were credit is due
@davwuh because russo didn't come up with the ideas you are talking about! You don't have to be a GENIUS to be a filter of ideas! Hence when you saw the latter end of WCW and TNA littered with gimmick matches, low brow gimmicks (S.E.X, Oklahoma), clusterfuck finishes and SWERVES EVERYWHERE. You couldn't figure out who to boo or cheer since Russo was too busy confusing things and giving juvenile crap to stray people away from his awful booking.
@newagepun Exactly Russo didn't come up with those ideas, which proves my point. WWE hasn't got any good writers and Russo was their best writer. Mcmahon obviously isn't a great filter if he lets some of the crap he lets pass these days, which proves your point wrong and me right. The attitude era was largely down to Vince Russo, but everybody only wants to remember him for WCW.. well screw that, Jim Cornette's never booked anything worthwhile, hence why nobody except smark nerds watch ROH
@davwuh Jim Cornette doesn't book ROH asshat. I'll let you do better research to figure out who does. Its nice you completely ignored my argument considering Russo may have gotten great ideas in WWF because McMahon FILTERED them from the other crap ideas he comes up with, like the stupid gimmick match in the video in question and the stuff I mentioned overran with it in McMahon's WWF. Its funny how idiots like you overrate russo for the attitude era when ECW made attitude a trend to follow.
Just when i thought i had remembered all of the insanity vince russo poured into the wrestling world i find another match/segment that leaves me in a state of absolute confusion as to who in the blue hell green lighted this stuff. I know he had creative control but there is still someone to say ok this doesn't make any sense we're not airing it.
It's actually pretty hilarious that they gave Douglas, who really thought far too highly of himself and a mark for himself, a storyline where he was impotent lol
@hustleking17 Yes, TNA is better than the current WWE product. Because when I buy TNA PPVs, I can look forward to a thrilling World title match that won't be a minute. Oh wait...
@BrentWoodSean38 Here's another one for you... why was there only twenty minutes of wrestling on the show where wrestling is supposed to matter last Thursday? Roughly ten minutes less than that entertainment show on Monday that same week.
Could there be more wrestling this coming Thursday? I sure hope so; otherwise I might have to pull out the old "There's Not Enough Wrestling On This Wrestling Show" card.
@BrentWoodSean38 I was talking about LAST Monday (the 16th), not this past Monday (the 23rd), but since you asked... (all match times based on RAW and Impact recaps by Michael Bradley at Scott's Blog of Doom)
What I was trying to say in my earlier post is that if TNA was pushing this "Wrestling Matters" tagline to the moon, why aren't they featuring more wrestling on the show? They usually have promos, they have ringside or backstage brawls, but the wrestling is lacking. The longest match on Impact was six minutes long and featured Eric Bischoff going over an extremely talented tag-team. There were two matches on that week's RAW that were more or less ten minutes.
@crisisded it's not just about the in ring wrestling. The fact that geeks like you analyze how long every match is for a weekly wrestling show is just laughable to me.
@BrentWoodSean38 Dude, I just copied and pasted someone else's times and added up the numbers as a lark. I don't usually obsess over this
And yes, I agree that there is more to it than just the in-ring wrestling, but at the end of the day, it is the main thing that's being sold. And if TNA wants to sell people on "Wrestling Matters," they have to make it so.
Watching last Thursday's show didn't give me the impression that wrestling mattered. Maybe tomorrow's show will be different. Who knows?
@crisisded it's not just about the in ring wrestling. The fact that geeks like you over analyze how long every match is for the weekly shows is laughable.
just fucking stupid and not funny. the katy vick storyline may of been tasteless and really depraved but it was well delivered and controversial and more entertaining than this shit. fuck russo. what the fuck was he thinking?
its funny austin delivered a promo that reference something like this once, only he said "bottle of geritol on pole match" and that promo was a shoot directed at bischoff. still russo musta saw got ideas. good move russo, you ruined wcw.
I loved WCW 2000 because of such awful booking like this. If only someone could upload Booker T vs "Big T" Ahmed Johnson, where they fought over the letter T.
man shane douglas should of stayed in ecw imo instead of leaving for the crappy wcw at that time he was so misused its redicilous wcw booking at its worst
I guess Kidman and Douglas are gay and whoever got the Viagra got to stick it in the other wrestlers butt ? Or is it whoever got the Viagra, got to have sex with Russo ?
@sledgehammerer1 The match was amazing. Kidman was one of my favorites, and I forgot how good Shane Douglas was. It's one of those storylines that's absurd, but you can still appreciate the performers. It's like when Rey Mysterio fought Eddie Guerrero over Dominic.

@russo256 Dude I couldn't agree more. WWE mostly shit these days. Outside of PPVs and some main events it's all 10-15 minute promos and squash matches everywhere. At least stuff like late WCW and early TNA is the "so bad it's good" and not the "so bad it's boring and unwatchable" type of bad.
@GodzillaRider So you are basically saying that instead of eating a mediocre sandwich that just tastes kind of boring, and of which you have already eaten a thousand, you would rather eat a steaming, dripping turd sandwich.
This is why WCW died. Shit like this. TNA - Look at this and see why if you don't fire Russo, you will die just like WCW. Russo is the #1 reason WCW flopped.
When was the last time Big Dick Johnson even showed up on TV? I am not saying that Raw is great right now because it isn't. But how can you defend this match? And no I am not blaming Russo for everything in WCW because there were problems before he even came in. He was just the final nail in WCW's coffin.
Obviously by your name, you are a Russo fanboi. You want to know what a Fanboi is? A Fanboi is someone who will defend their idol to the end without any facts or evidence to support their idea that their idol is infallable. A fanboi also sometimes emulates their idol in some sort of way, in this instance, you emulate his name.
Factually, Vince Russo was the head writer of WCW, and had huge influence on who stayed, and went from WCW. Responsibility therefore lies on Russo's shoulders.
Russo's the reason the ratings dropped uncontrollably with stupid matches such as viagra on a pole.....blame Jamie Kellner all you want.....he killed it on a fiscal standpoint.....on a creative standpoint....Russo MURDERED WCW......McMahon was there the harness and filter Russo's retarded ideas.....all wcw 2000 was was the shit Vinny Mac sed HELL NO to....
Don't assume so much aboot a person you know nothing about - me. I know Russo's faults, but if you look at the big picture with WCW, including AOL's incredible influence on ditching WCW from Time Warner, you'd realize WCW could've easily continued doing this shit getting a 2.5 rating and making money.
Russo fanboi. See what I mean? Russo didn't single handedly bring WCW to it's demise, but he had a huge role in the play. AOL/Time Warner saw the ratings plummeting for WCW, and a media giant such as AOL/Time Warner could not rely on such shaky ratings. Why did the ratings go down so far? Because of cheesy, uninteresting storylines. I watched it every week, and it was so hard to follow. I only watched because I am a hardcore wrestling fan, that will watch the worst of the worst.
Anyways, as a fan so hardcore as me, that is all WCW had, the hardcore fans who will watch any wrestling. They did not have roots in pop culture like WWF had at that time. The average fan, or Rock/Stone Cold mark were not watching WCW. Some were even ignorant that WCW even existed, or they thought of it as a small time company not worth watching. Who had control of the creative in WCW? Russo! Because of Russo writing crappy storylines, and not developing stars, ratings fell, and AOL dropped out.
AOL/Time Warner was never a wrestling company. They were a media company. If the ratings go down, they will axe anything with low ratings. Don't blame their executives for killing WCW(as maybe they did, but with a product that is losing, they were bound to do so). So nice try trying to pick up for Russo against all odds, common knowledge, and facts, but you seriously failed to do so. Fanbois always fail in the end. Since you did fail, this proves that you are a "fanboi".
I don't like Russo at all, but he's not the sole reason why WCW went under. It wasn't the cheesy or stale storylines, it wasn't any of that that ultimately killed WCW, it was the Mergers, and Jamie Kellner who didn't wanna WCW on their networks. Read Bischoff's book, Read the Death of WCW book by R.D. Reynolds. Everyone from within AOL/Time Warner wanted WCW to fail and they had their chance when Turner lost majority ownership. The Rest is History.
He wasn't solely responsible for it, but he had one of the bigger roles in helping to kill it. He helped kill the ratings. Time Warner, being all about ratings, ditched the WCW franchise, and sold it to Vince McMahon.
Don't downplay Jaime Kellner's role either though. Being a Drama Series guy from WB, he didn't see the point in WCW being on TV. Time Warner would gladly sell the company to bischoff and his partners for 10x more then what WWF bought it for as long as it got TV time. Yea ratings dropped massively, but I don't think Kellner would have kept WCW even if the ratings were in the fair high 2s- low 3s. Add on the fact that a year before Russo took over, AOL/Time Warner wanted WCW to be family
entertainment that was going to go against everything WCW was in 96-97 and go against what WWF and the Fans went too in 98. Everything from within WCW and furthermore through AOL/Time Warner, compromised in the demise of WCW. Hell WCW was even kicked out of the CNN Tower for the Atlanta Thrashers...an unproven expansion team for the NHL.
WCW sold out when they created the nWo and monday nyquil just to compete with the WWF, before that it was a different experience from the WWF, but after 1996 you could hardly tell the difference.
Except for the better wrestling until about the middle of 1999. You can't tell me the cruiserweight division wasn't awesome. Now when they were ripping off WWF angles in 2000 for the most part that was sad and embarassing.
Stereorage, that couldn't be further from the truth. AOL didn't want WCW since the merger, Russo was a pawn, some of his stories worked, some didn't, but by the time WCW folded, it still got better ratings than TNA and Smackdown, and sometimes today's current RAW. Russo was one out of dozens of writers, and he didn't even write when they went out.
Via WHAT!? on a pole? I didn't remembered this... I knew there was lots of stupid stuff, ie; pignata(spelling),judy bagwell, and all...but this...just the idea it takes the cake as stupid as hell. Fuck you Vince Russo mr.'I created lots of attitude era' RIGHTTTTTTTTTTT dumbass...

This is why WCW died. Shit like this. TNA - Look at this and see why if you don't fire Russo, you will die just like WCW. Russo is the #1 reason WCW flopped.
bestthinggoing459 2 years ago
No hes not. The crowd ate it up. Jamie Kellner axing WCW's television timeslots in 2001 is what killed WCW.

@charismatic9904: Was this one of your awesome ideas for a match, since you "Worked" for WcW and WWE?
Spartan9175 2 years ago
i love how ppl diss this match and say russo sucks etc.
Anyone been watching Raw lately??? Huh? Big Dick Johnson anyone? Yeah., nuff said.
russo256 2 years ago 4
100% agreed. wwe sucks wayyyyyyy worse than wcw ever did. hell wcw in 2000 was actually pretty freakin good.
charismatic9904 2 years ago 4
i'll admit i don't watch RAW as much as i used to put as far as i know Big Dick Johnson hasn't been used in a long while.
TheNotoriousKoS 2 years ago
When was the last time Big Dick Johnson even showed up on TV? I am not saying that Raw is great right now because it isn't. But how can you defend this match? And no I am not blaming Russo for everything in WCW because there were problems before he even came in. He was just the final nail in WCW's coffin.

This is what happens when no one filters Vince Russo's ideas and he's allowed to do whatever.
Thewwekiller 2 years ago
You blame Russo? You must not know much about WCW. It was Jamie Kellner that killed it
russo256 2 years ago
Obviously by your name, you are a Russo fanboi. You want to know what a Fanboi is? A Fanboi is someone who will defend their idol to the end without any facts or evidence to support their idea that their idol is infallable. A fanboi also sometimes emulates their idol in some sort of way, in this instance, you emulate his name.
Factually, Vince Russo was the head writer of WCW, and had huge influence on who stayed, and went from WCW. Responsibility therefore lies on Russo's shoulders.
Stereorage 2 years ago 4
Russo's the reason the ratings dropped uncontrollably with stupid matches such as viagra on a pole.....blame Jamie Kellner all you want.....he killed it on a fiscal standpoint.....on a creative standpoint....Russo MURDERED WCW......McMahon was there the harness and filter Russo's retarded ideas.....all wcw 2000 was was the shit Vinny Mac sed HELL NO to....
Brahvo 2 years ago 3
Don't assume so much aboot a person you know nothing about - me. I know Russo's faults, but if you look at the big picture with WCW, including AOL's incredible influence on ditching WCW from Time Warner, you'd realize WCW could've easily continued doing this shit getting a 2.5 rating and making money.
russo256 2 years ago
Russo fanboi. See what I mean? Russo didn't single handedly bring WCW to it's demise, but he had a huge role in the play. AOL/Time Warner saw the ratings plummeting for WCW, and a media giant such as AOL/Time Warner could not rely on such shaky ratings. Why did the ratings go down so far? Because of cheesy, uninteresting storylines. I watched it every week, and it was so hard to follow. I only watched because I am a hardcore wrestling fan, that will watch the worst of the worst.
Stereorage 2 years ago
Anyways, as a fan so hardcore as me, that is all WCW had, the hardcore fans who will watch any wrestling. They did not have roots in pop culture like WWF had at that time. The average fan, or Rock/Stone Cold mark were not watching WCW. Some were even ignorant that WCW even existed, or they thought of it as a small time company not worth watching. Who had control of the creative in WCW? Russo! Because of Russo writing crappy storylines, and not developing stars, ratings fell, and AOL dropped out.
Stereorage 2 years ago
AOL/Time Warner was never a wrestling company. They were a media company. If the ratings go down, they will axe anything with low ratings. Don't blame their executives for killing WCW(as maybe they did, but with a product that is losing, they were bound to do so). So nice try trying to pick up for Russo against all odds, common knowledge, and facts, but you seriously failed to do so. Fanbois always fail in the end. Since you did fail, this proves that you are a "fanboi".
Stereorage 2 years ago
I don't like Russo at all, but he's not the sole reason why WCW went under. It wasn't the cheesy or stale storylines, it wasn't any of that that ultimately killed WCW, it was the Mergers, and Jamie Kellner who didn't wanna WCW on their networks. Read Bischoff's book, Read the Death of WCW book by R.D. Reynolds. Everyone from within AOL/Time Warner wanted WCW to fail and they had their chance when Turner lost majority ownership. The Rest is History.
DamienDraiman 2 years ago
He wasn't solely responsible for it, but he had one of the bigger roles in helping to kill it. He helped kill the ratings. Time Warner, being all about ratings, ditched the WCW franchise, and sold it to Vince McMahon.
Stereorage 2 years ago
Don't downplay Jaime Kellner's role either though. Being a Drama Series guy from WB, he didn't see the point in WCW being on TV. Time Warner would gladly sell the company to bischoff and his partners for 10x more then what WWF bought it for as long as it got TV time. Yea ratings dropped massively, but I don't think Kellner would have kept WCW even if the ratings were in the fair high 2s- low 3s. Add on the fact that a year before Russo took over, AOL/Time Warner wanted WCW to be family
DamienDraiman 2 years ago
entertainment that was going to go against everything WCW was in 96-97 and go against what WWF and the Fans went too in 98. Everything from within WCW and furthermore through AOL/Time Warner, compromised in the demise of WCW. Hell WCW was even kicked out of the CNN Tower for the Atlanta Thrashers...an unproven expansion team for the NHL.
DamienDraiman 2 years ago
WCW sold out when they created the nWo and monday nyquil just to compete with the WWF, before that it was a different experience from the WWF, but after 1996 you could hardly tell the difference.
Pcfan11 2 years ago
Except for the better wrestling until about the middle of 1999. You can't tell me the cruiserweight division wasn't awesome. Now when they were ripping off WWF angles in 2000 for the most part that was sad and embarassing.
deblobwii 2 years ago
Yeah but people hardly noticed that bright, young devision because hogan had CREE-AI-TIVO CONTRAWL
Pcfan11 2 years ago
Stereorage, that couldn't be further from the truth. AOL didn't want WCW since the merger, Russo was a pawn, some of his stories worked, some didn't, but by the time WCW folded, it still got better ratings than TNA and Smackdown, and sometimes today's current RAW. Russo was one out of dozens of writers, and he didn't even write when they went out.
