also check out what David Lean said about Holden really astonishing and David Lean had seen quite a few powerful things before his camera but never anything like what Holden did by Kwai had had simply become one of the most powerfful actors going when they gave him the right stuff
well actually he did turn in some wretched perfomances Golden Boy for starters, very awkward stuff and Streets of Laredo he aint much better but he sure as got better till by Sunset Boulevard he was perfect after that he found himself and then Bridge and Wild Bunch you could have scoured this whole sour world for somebody better than he and not found them perfection is hard to come by but in those films he was exactly and precisely that perfect
@doctornoooo ARE YOU KIDDING? GOLDEN BOY-WRETCHED? HOLDEN'S ACTING WAS JUST FAIR BUT HIS EFFORT IS UNFORGETTABLE. THE PICTURE TURNED OUT A HIT BY ALL STANDARDS. I BELIEVE IT WAS DIRECTED BY MAMOULIAN FOR STARTERS.
Neat clip. I agree with Carson - Holden is one of those rare actors who never turned in a bad performance.
BTW, S.O.B. was his last movie, but for me, the film he did the year before - The Earthling - will always be Holden's farewell performance. I love that movie to pieces.
Thank you so much for posting this inteview. William Holden was a wonderful actor, but I admire him most for his work in conservation. The William Holden Wildlife Foundation, founded by Stefanie Powers afer his death, is a fitting tribute to a remarkable man. ****** I have one question. Does anyone by chance have a copy of his interview in Kenya (1980), that aired on ABC? I know this was the one and only time he did a interview on site about his conservation effort's.
I just looked at my copy of Stefanie Powers interview on "Good Morning America" May 12, 1983 and her appearance on ABC's "The American Sportsman" on May 15,1983. On both there are small clips of Bill's interview in Kenya, which is actually listed as a episode of " The American Sportsman" from 1981, courtesy of ABC Sports. I would guess Bill's interview was 10-15 minutes long.

Wow! Holden's drinking really took a toll. He looks much older than his actual age.

@doctornoooo
Dear Doctornoooo,
As you’ve noted David Lean being one of the most respected of film directors, his observations are valued & on the mark regarding Bill Holden.
The More I get to know Holden the BETTER I Respect/Like him;
on the contrary, often, more intimate acquaintance with people leads to disillusionment.
Take care, Dear FAN,
KIMY

@ccsophiafan Dear William Holden Fan,
Thank you for this information; I'll get back to you, if and, when I can get anything at all
concerning this ABC interview (1980) in Kenya -- it may take some time.
Glad to hear especially from an environmentally conscious fan of his;
my admiration for William Holden is also fueled by my environmental concerns.
BTW, to get some footing onto this subject, do you know how long the interview was?
Take care,
{(iGBi)} and KIMY
