  • During the roast shows... Dean Martin wasn't actually drinking alcohol... it was usually apple juice... but it gave the appearance of drinking burbon (water for vodka, etc.). He played up the heavy drinking lush persona... helped draw in viewers that thought Dean was drunk on TV.

  • It's great that Dean can just about keep it together.

  • the man NEVER drank but play's the part well. I am 50 I grew up w/ this was real tv f*ck the jersey shore

  • Now THIS was TV entertainment.

  • Really fun to see and recall. I actually remember seeing this when first broadcast.

  • What's great is that they're both famous for being "drunk" but weren't actually heavy drinkers when they were at their most popular.

  • Just Bought his Variety show DVDs... Epic Funny!

  • Classic! Loved it.

  • Good Old School Comedy. My hero Foster nails it here....What airline was that again??!

  • Foster Brooks told about when he went ice fishing. He caught 200 pounds. When he fried it he almost drowned. He was truly funny.

  • Dean once said...My Mother is 90 and she still doesn't use glasses, no, she drinks straight from the bottle!!!

  • I don't care how many times I watch this.....I still laugh my tail off. Aw, the good old days.

  • @thedetectivebm tail? lol

  • @killingman22 yeah tail, it's slang not that unheard of.

  • This is classic! They don't make em' like this anymore and it is very sad. I agree, with the worlds efforts to try to clean things up from the bottom up,they have refuse to accept the obvious & that is,people will be people regardless. So enjoy Life. This is art imitating life very accurately and it's funny!!!!!!!!!

  • Back when comedy was actually funny & clean for the most part! Mr. Martin & Brooks were a couple of the best!

  • So glad I got to see this stuff during the original airings... I'll always remember these guys as the best ever.

  • was looking for something else but ended up here!!! Stupid but it was funny at the time!!!

  • To each his own, but I wonder how people (albeit 2) don't see the humor in this. Its brilliant! and they are having so much fun. Seems like comedy today has lost its sense of humor.

  • @cosmickate3 you are so correct. It seems everything has simply gotten too serious...even humor.

  • "You're not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on."

  • All their lives is dependiiiiiing on meeeeeee:-)

  • Absolutely brilliant! Notice there's not one sexual innuendo -- no profanity -- just brilliant comedy.

  • you know ive just watched a work of artand then read killingman22s defence of mr martins drinking habits ,who the hell cares if mr martin drank, the wheres and the when do not matter ,there seems to be no end to this thirst as is the british way to build someone up just to knock them down when they feel like it,ohh and i aint british even though i live in the dump, lets all clean up our own back yard before we look to others, no offece meant killingman22 it just makes me so mad

  • @underpaid01 thanks man nicely said my grandpa sang with him before he was famous and he only drank on rare rare occasions

  • @underpaid01 Go HOME next flt

  • @whingenjock glasgow

  • stunningly brilliant from mr brookes and mr martin not being able to contain his laughter, what a magical mix,im tempted to compare this with todays comedy but theres no one show to compare it with,is there?reasuringly innocent, honest,oh i could go on,quality ......the era of the roasts and all those taking part where unique never to be equaled if this dont light your fire then your wood is wet, political correctness, has made sure the comedywill never be the same

  • There should be a 'FOSTER BROOKS' hall of fame! !

  • for someone who like to fly .....

  • dean never drank only at special times he almost never ever drank watch his bio iand my friend knew him for a while

  • @killingman22 you are totally right about Dean not drinking

  • @killingman22 You knew Dean Martin for a while? I find that hard to believe... Your profile says that you're 13, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you wrote that when you first joined YouTube back in 2008. Still, that means that you were born the same year that Dean Martin died.

  • @mitragorz read it again,my friend met him,hes 57. a friend of my mothers but still my friend we hang out alot

  • To all you captains out there, I have the PERFECT gift for you. Check out my channel and watch my latest video "The Captain's Switch"

  • This has to be one of the funniest pieces of footage on You tube. Sheer Brilliance

  • @rarebutgreat Yeah I've never seen very much that can equal this. The comedy is fantastic, the writing is brilliant and original. Foster Brooks is also the highly watchable centre of attention in the Dean Martin Roast of Don Rickles, a few minutes of heroic comic genius.

  • No one will ever replace Foster Brooks, he is the best.

  • I love how Dean can't keep from laughing and has to stop to wipe the tears off his face LOL

  • @rtds9fan the funniest parts of all these lovely clips - Dean Martin' s reactions lol. he could never keep a straight face, reminds me of Johnny Carson too.

  • @rtds9fan He wasn't hard on the eyes either. lol

  • Dean Martin didnt drink much, he faked it and usually drank juice or soda during his performances..:) Love him!

  • i thought i've seen your face from somewhere else

No its always been rIght hEre (on my neck) pricelesss

  • atention

dean was never drunk its apple juice THERE PROBLEM SOLVED

  • Yeah, FERMENTED apple juice!

  • @killingman22 haha you are crazy he was a real

    jack daniels drinker

  • In all fairness........Dean was NOT drunk during this 'interview'!!!!!!!!!!! He probably drank less than the average bear!!!!!!

    PEACE, Tamara

  • In all fairness, television was far different back then. There were only three networks and a hand full of independent stations, no cable or internet.

A show back then that had a rating of a number one show today would have been canceled long ago. If a show did not have a 40 or 50 share, it would be toast. Too many choices today and definitely not enough true unwatered down talent, that is for sure....

  • @gswoop40 people also didnt have money for tvs and went outside...

  • Find me talent like this these days!

  • Thats foster brooks

  • .....

  • Who's the other guy?

  • coolness haha old school

  • Old school comedy, gotta love it

  • joeamato...everything is funnier than the jay leno show. Nothing can beat the dean martin show. :]

  • this is funner than the jay leno show.

  • Anythings funnier than Jay. Or were you joking

  • these two had more talent than most of the p.c.-uptight corporate suck-ups who do late night today. so no, i was not joking. also, in the 60's .. Dean Martins show had triple the ratings Jay Leno now has. no joke

  • i love dean, but is he the young one, because he really doesnt look like the old 1 at all

  • Foster was 5 years younger than Dean.

Dean was about 56 at the time.

  • this is probably from his show..hes acting :)

  • That "drunk" pilot is a GENIUS!!! LOL

  • oh yes

  • you heard a lie

  • zo, mijn dag kan weer niet meer stuk

  • when was dean martin not drunk

  • @ralfyrules Dean only drank Apple Juice when he was performing. If he was drunk, do you really think he could do comedy and sing like he does?

  • I love this, thanks!

  • Foster Brooks was the best drunk in history.. It takes skill to act like that where it is believable..

  • can you share this video with your contacts plz thanks

  • ROFLL

guy:"wayy up high in those white , fluffy things"

    dean:"clouds?"

g: "you sure your not a pilot?' XD

    AHAHA so brilliantly played XD

  • ROFLL " a big gray-- gray metal thing with um, whatchacallits on the sides"

    "wings?"

    "oh you didnt umfurm*mumblemumble* XD

    ohhh dosnt get any beter than this..but then nowadays there's noting like this anymore D;

    i miss it

  • You have to love old comedy, quick punch lines and the laughs just keep coming. Nobody can do that these days.

  • I don't know why there is a "politically correct" argument going on right now, wrong time wrong place. I just think some people joke to have a ship on their shoulders all the time. And who the hell cares if he was drunk when he performed? They bring back a lot pf good memories for me.

  • @fibrosucks Again, Dean Martin was never drunk on stage. No, I would not like a SHIP on my shoulders, but having a chip wouldn't be bad!

  • can you translate? can you put subtitles?

  • A timeless sketch

  • first officer.... Ohh P1..OK..today?

    you know the route?

    Yes Boss...... ;)

    Terry

  • are you sure you´re not a pilot?....lol

  • Foster Brooks. Back in the day when it was OK to spoof being a drunk, he was everywhere. Check out the Dean Martin roasts. So funny! Now you can't drink or smoke on TV, but you can be vulgar and profane. Go figure.

  • it's called politically correct . Say the word " black " and you are crucified but say mother F..... and its absolutely O.K -

  • What world do you live in?

  • TO : nathanburgundy

You are a 28 years old who watches cartoons and beast master and you want to know what world I live in ? I am speechless . bless you

  • @sbijan666 Thank You! You also have to watch these couples sticking their tongues in each others mouths, and practically feeling each other up, but that's ok, something I want my kids to see. And before any of you ask,

No I'm Not A Prude. And the way boys wear their blue jeans, I don't really want to see the crack in your ass. If they actually print this, I'll probably faint, cause I'm really not being politically correct!

  • Who's the dude in the red suit?

  • On my god my eyes I cant see for tears for Laughing, they dont make them like that any more :O(

  • Foster was the best drunk ever!! Great to see Dean cracking up!! lol

  • What a pitty stuff like this dissapeared over the years,

  • 2:33 -- Dean finally lost it.....Classic Clip!!!!

  • You have 2 of the best drunk acts on one stage!!! Dean definitely liked to drink but was no drunk!!! Watch the roast done for Frank Sinatra and listen to Franks' remarks at the end!! Frank also said he spilled more booze than Dino ever drank!! Read his son and daughters books great reading. This "drunk" was home every night at 5:00 for dinner with his family! His act was a drunkie but he was not one!!!!Neither was Foster Brooks!!!! Brooks never drank after he made a bet with someone!!

  • This is brilliant comedy..But nowadays you could never act drunk or smoke on tv...OOOOHHH..Bad bad!!

  • i read somewhere where he didnt drink ,, he just acted like a drinker?? he was the best ive ever seen. better than most drunks i know in real life!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • it was deffinately true, he liked a drink, but he was only a social drinker, and never mixed business n pleasure

while frank would demand to have X,Y and Z waitin backstage (bottle of jack, nd girls) dean would onle EVER ask for apple juice to put in his whiskey glass

he was neither a drink or a womanizer 'till his final decade, when the death of his sone caused him to fall apart

its not that i knew him, only 18, but i've just finished reading his autobiography, by nick Toches- HIGHLY RECOMENDED

  • foster brooks was the ultimate pro.

never did a bad performance. how many comics can claim that?

  • learn to spell.

    Kind Regards

    Grammar Nazi

  • the best kind of nazi... :)

  • this was classic tv at its best. They don't make variety shows like this anymore.

  • i agree...that was amusement.Far better than stupid call and vote programs we are being "entertained" with.Dean and Foster are both real fun chaps.put em together and you got a real nice piece of entertainment.

  • Performances like this show how really bad TV is nowadays.

  • The script was brilliant. The performance was superb. The straight man's steady anchoring made the double act a fly away comedy classic

  • While I do love Dean, (haters don't comment) the other fella is the funny one. Who is that? Someone blasted more than Dean deserves a medal.

  • that is foster brooks in every scene he aways acts drunk

  • that was the one and only Foster Brooks

  • The best what i ever seen!!!!!!!!!!Amazing!!!!!!!!The World must be seen this evergreen see in TV!!!!!!WOW!!!!!

  • He never drank on his variety show, it was always apple juice. But, he did drink quite a bit, as the people that saw him out always saw him drinking Jack on the rocks. I'm pretty sure he drank for the celebrity roasts however.

  • dean martin never drank on tv. he had juices put in his glasses. it was his trademark to pretend he was drunk.

  • Riiiight.....wink wink

  • this was when tv was actually good!!!

  • i used to be a bus driver, but there were too many drunks on the road

  • His daughter said that Dean drank Martinelli's Apple Juice on the show. He was not that much of a drinker.

  • Yeah but he did have problems with drink and drugs in the 1970s.

  • His son died in an accident. This fact, among others, were terrible to him. Besides, Dean´s fame as a "alcohoolic" or something began in the early 60´s. It think that it was his public character, he didn´t drink that much.

  • His son died in 1987, long after his drink and drug problems in the 1970s.

  • Whilst not normally a great lover of american humour, this is absolutly magnificent. Watch the drunks hand towards the end, it is marvellous acting.

    Brilliant

  • This is so incredibly funny!!!

I miss this kind of humor so bad!!!

  • I'm an airline pilot.

    HAHA

  • wouldnt say dean drunk

  • No one made Dean laugh harder and me too.

  • SOOOOOOOO FUNNY GREAT ACTING

  • "oh, no, i've never been on television."

  • Nobody made Dean laugh harder.

  • this man truly is a genius, very very funny and wity

  • Totally agree. Pure geniuses, ETERNAL.

  • Thanks

  • I´m German and I have never seen before this video. I had to laugh so much, I had tears in my eyes. exactly like dean martin. splendidly!

  • HILARIOUS!!!

  • This probably is one of the funniest skits since TV was developed. How many times did you ever see Dean Martin have to wipe his eyes from laughing so hard? Both Foster Brooks and Dean Martin are "one of a kind".

  • Dino is just so funny, u cant see him lauphing and not do that, hes so real and funny.

  • What made Dino so special was that he was REALLY in the moment....when he laughed , it was real and it made everyone else laugh...you felt like you were out with him having a good time.

  • I live in schenectady county in new york

  • Fantastic. Thanks for posting the vid. The best thing about this sketch is the fact that both of them are stone cold sober.
