The most interesting part of this video is the flickering you see when you image the IR source. I assume that the micro-mirror unit within the Kinect is generating the structured light patterns which are then sensed by the IR imager.

Weird. Considering the projection, I would think then that if someone walked behind you while you were playing or something it'd pick up that and screw you up in the game, but I haven't seen that in any gameplay vids.

Kinda cool though - it can be used as a game controller, and it could be used to do some awesome photography or art pieces too.

Equally weird, the KINECT takes photos of you and has the capability to send them up the line, to where, who knows. Mircosoft claims the user has all control over the KINECT unit but if it's on, it could be sending images from your site of installation.  Be careful with it!

@WGMindless I haven't touched it, no - (I thought that was the point of Kinect?) But I can see a pattern - Wii does really well, then people lose interest, but others try to jump onto the bandwagon. Seriously, all the games for Kinect can be copy/pasted from original Wii titles, and look how well they turned out. Everyone adored Wii sports - myself included - but after a few weeks, they just haven't got the appeal of proper games. I want to relax while playing games, not have a workout

There's all kinds of research about what patterns work better, etc. I think ideally there would be a constantly shifting pattern to improve accuracy but then the projector would need a scanning laser instead of some fixed element.
