  • I think Larry Jon Wilsons legacy is the knowledge that every new person who discovers his music instantly realises they've missed something important all these years. That legacy will flow onwards through generations of true music lovers. RIP LJW - you didn't receive the recognition you deserved during your lifetime - but your music will eternally be one of the worlds great gifts. Thank you.

  • Loved Heartworn Highways, it changed my life, still changing it! You gotta see it if you haven't! Larry Jon really rocked it! Glad to know he's still doin' it!!!

  • Gonna miss you. Larry Jon. I cannot begin to express how much your music has enriched my life or how much of an adventure it has been to find your music. Rest in Peace, Larry Jon. You will be missed.

  • Great friend, gonna miss him.

  • he died yesterday, :(

  • Pardon me- But for the past 20 years the only Larry Jon I could get was from China, Japan, Italy or other non-US sources!! Now it seems he's everywhere, and then some. I have always admired LJW's musical integrity, but from where I am, it's sad of you(have to be, so-called fans/friends) to come out of the musical woodwork and immediately try to .... !!

  • so uh...i met this guy larry jon last night...hes my grandmothers boyfriend's brother...and hes pretty darn cool cat.

  • sooo wonderful to visit with you in nashville... you are SO LOVED!

  • Why did LJ quit music for 28 years???

  • Wow Brent Maher sure looks young there.

  • P.S.

Another great song is "Think I Feel a Hitch-hike Coming On."

  • Every summer I would go to church camp in Adrian, Ga. The campgound was right on the 'Hoopie and is literally "low-rent land turned to sand." We had the hand-fans to beat the heat and gnats. Been a Larry Jon fan since 1976.

  • This is a great song, saw it on Heartworn Highways & it sent me looking for info on Mr LJ Wilson..

    *****

  • OMG! i have just fallen hard!

  • I grew up in hendersonville, and remember the group from high school..great to hear it again

  • One of my old bands in the 70's based in Tamworth, discovered " Cant Get Off With Your Shoes On " Woes Of Ths Road " Keys To The Country" about the same time as we found " Little Feat ". all of a sudden Country Music had some meaning for this city kid.

  • peemgee: I didn't discover Lowell & the Feat til the late 80's...but they're to this day one of my special musical treats...heart, no matter what the music, cooks/rocks/swing....

  • I thought it was "Two Mile Pike" (a street in Goodlettsville, TN.

  • I saw him earlier this week at The Gladstone in Borough, he was brilliant. I was speaking outside to theis American merchant banker from a band called 'Kursk' who said LJW was boring and that there were thousands of these guys in the US. I did kinda like the guy up until he started banging on about his beautiful Russian girlfriend and how she was better looking than all the girls at the gig that night, then I thought "what a dick!" Larry Jon was fantastic.

  • Nice story rugshort....

  • Update:

There is a new Larry Jon Wilson release on the way on 1965 Records, release date in June 2008

James Endeacott, proprietor of eclectic record label 1965:

We've just signed a guy who's 70 years old -- Larry John Wilson -- who was mates with Kris Kristofferson in the '70s. He's not made a record in 28 years and he's just made one for us, just him and a guitar recorded in a room overlooking a beach in Florida, and it's heartbreaking.

  • we just ran into him on Broad street the other day (april 3rd) and got some history on him running shine to Appling when he was a Boy :)!! thats where me and my wife ashley live now.. we grew up with his son Tyler. in the 80's i was with tyler and i got mugged in savannah, ga st pat's day.. Larry jon took me backout into the streets armed with a revolver looking for my attackers, thank God we didnt find them:) HE CREATES a MOOD the MINUTE you hear HIM!!!

    LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cole637: nice story man....you right about that MOOD IN A MINUTE..his 'lived in' voice is simply hypnotic...he's just great !!!!!

  • F**k me, this guy is incredible!

  • this is a cruel motherfukkin guitar player! like the video with townes van zandt! go blues / soul

  • I have uploaded the video sequence from this film on my youtube with the outakes and Larry Jon doing some lightning Hopkins licks too.He just rocks the place, awesome funky guitar licks.

  • You can get a CD called New Beginnings/Let me sing my song to you ( a compilation of two of his albums from the 70's) from the UK if you're interested. It'll take some searching online, but worth it.

  • I also like his voice. Also a performance of the back. I want his 3rd work and the 4th work to come out with coupling CD. Swan Plock -- it is favorite. CD with recommended you -- ? -- me -- Larry jon brayn haworth of Britain, and a woman -- maggie brown and girian welch it is .

  • for years been a big fan of Barefoot Jerry's

  • zoutezee: hey Barefoot Jerry...I got their 'Can't get off with your shoes on' LP in the late '70's in Melbourne Australia....Ali Barba etc...do you know where I can anything of BJ's..when I put their album on now, it ALWAYS gets a great response...timeless!!!!

  • This is fantasic music by a unique artist who is vastly under rated. From One musician to another you are at the top of the tree. Wonderful stuff and I love it. Mike Reed

  • This guy's the goods.....

  • Excellent video & song.

    Handy Said is incredible.

How bout Kindred Spirit and Let Me Sing My Song FOr YOu. I;ve been a fan for 30 years and am trying to see him play live once before either he or I kicks the bucket.

If you like LJW, check out some of the Subdudes videos here.

  • "A penny saved, is a penny burned

your might as well go on a spend 'em son

the world just might not be here

..time your next one's earned....Handy said."

....Larrry John Wilson from the song "Handy Said"

  • Years ago I was the Stage Manage at the Exit Inn (a music listning/club) in Nashville,TN. Amoung my duties was auditioning the talent, scheduleing and managing the Sunday night open mike.

Later that night when the audiance came in I held him till the room was full. I still have the tape we rolled on those two performances plus all 4 of his records on Monument Records.

  • Hi my name is Ron Kuipers a radio broadcaster in Sydnet, Aust. & I think Larry Jon is up there with any of the greats from that area; trouble is that i seem to be the only aussie that knows about him. Any chance you can sell me all of his rec. material? Sydneysiders need to be rocked into the bosom of Abraham

  • otiscoltrane: we're now a band of 2 Ron..he's a friggin' off the planet Janet performer..I have some Barefoot Jerry (friends of LJW) from the same period...you'd probably love it..
