  • Very interesting way to do paradiddles... Now i want to restart to practise again :D \,,/_

  • This is why I play drums...

  • Great demo thanks for posting.

  • this is awesome, ever since i heard that second groove i was determined to learn it! i was only use to the typical paradiddle, and ive been at it for the last week finally got it, thanks to this video replying it...on too the next groove i suppose haha, thanks

  • This is driving me

    Crazy!! ;-) Thnx a lot!

  • What ride is that and crash and hats?

  • it's amazing what you can do with paradiddles XD>

  • The very first beat he plays at 1:40 sounds just the old Miami Vice theme song lol

  • It's Rlrr Lrll

    where capital letters are accented.

If you're gonna teach, teach correctly.

  • @Lunibruniful Thats a single paradidle, he's not doing a single paradiddle.. He's useing the variations of the single parradiddle..

  • THANKS SO MUCH MAN! ME AND MY FRIENDS MADE THE BEST SONG!

  • haha wtf is up with this Your Reaction thing? I remember when the yellow suscribe button to the right still existed! Sick drum video!!!!!

  • Baião e Samba ai ja é sacanagem rsrs

  • i like the way you play the drums and the way you teach...............very relaxed

  • ive been playing drums for almost 4 years and i cant just go "ill improv on a rudiment and sound awsome"good job.

  • Dude...you are fucking awesome.

  • that high-hat looks so good

  • thanks.............

  • Ah i didnt know paradiddle can be that awesome. =/

  • so smooth! your stick grip & wrist movement is an inspiration, very very nice man, thanks for sharing, much appreciated

  • This is fucking awesome!

  • 88,000 hits is great publicity, Jeff is always been a sick player in brampton he deserves more notoriety. its too bad 88,000 hits doesn't directly = money

  • It's only now I realise how important these are. I'm 18 and learning how to play drums all over again because of how stubborn i was when I was 14 lol

  • LOL. I love how long he takes when he tries to mute the cymbals. Man.. This guy plays awesome. :O

  • the way he says paradiddle is funny :) parlilllilla

  • I didn't know Doug Butabi plays drums.

  • !. How do you make the snare drum sound so fluid, any tips?

    2. Do you know any drummer that uses this kind of... drumming? I think I have never heard something like this.

    Thanks in advance.

  • heh, geez this guy is good haha.

  • i never knew a paradiddle could sound so freakin cool!!!!!

  • mean bro... ive always wondered how to put to practice. i know the technique not the flow. my right triplet is awesome but i laugh at my left. Thanx

  • makes me wonder. if this is such a cool thing, then why do we all complain about how boring it is when we first learn it? who knows that this stuff was possible when we first learn RLRR LRLL.

  • HAHAH this guy is so fucking stoned. Fucking awesome groove and feel.

  • niiice

  • he came to my school to teach hand drums.

  • I used to only play metal, and after a year of hardcore blasting practice i kind of lost interest in drumming, but Jesus Christ, all of that lost passion was brought back with these paradiddle patterns.

  • @molomono Dude, do what i do, Blast beats+grooves, its great for bands, its adds a little bit of heaviness to it.

  • @Punjabi192 I started linear patterns and worked on my stick control, i'm back to blasting and grooving all the time.

I can't believe i ever lost interest in drumming.

  • @molomono I am working on my blast, reinventing my blast if you will. basically i did not like my wrist patterns so i changed it so i will use more power, yeah its going to take a bit. i lost intrest in drumming once, but that was because i was really bad, but i worked at, and so on.

  • @Punjabi192 Could you explain that with some more detail? xD sounds interesting

  • @AsLokun Yeah dude sure. Its like this you start out real fast, then you can pull out a parradiddle on the kit while you band slows down, then speed that parradiddle as the band speeds up. . . its pretty cool, try it.

  • @Punjabi192 I can imagine, but you could make a video. : D

  • @AsLokun there is already a video of some guy doing it(kind of). Anyway, check out Warface - Supression of Hersey.

  • hi jeff u r good god bless god give britney and dale and u talent we are going to sued it go watch my britney spears videos i'm dancing professinal . god bless u

  • lol ,youre a good drummer, but all of your examples make no sense!

  • this makes me want to crap on a pizza! bombs away!

  • how long does it take to learn one type of paradiddle??

  • awesome jeff..your method so awesome. wow iwish a have a tutor like you...

  • Your style is really good... thanks for sharing!!

  • it makes me love life!!!!!!!!what humans can do!!! viva le muzak!!!!

  • awesome !!! my favourite grooves is rhe paradiddle based grooves indeed

  • that is an epic..thank you so much for this video, it will keep me motoviated on practicing.

  • @yasserbissaty

Imho best thing to keep you practicing, is to play hard music and try to nail it. And if you can't play it, then keep practicing (slowly) until you can.

For example: 16th note bass drum -> Tool Vicarious

For example: RRLR on hi-hat while doing B--B on bass drum -> Schism Tool.

  • Hey Jeff!!!!!!!! Nice vid

  • awesome lesson man. thanks very much

  • Nice!

  • 2.05 is sooooo funny .... haha good vid tho ..

  • Very cool, man - Can't play 'Wipeout' without it..{^;^}

  • this video is sick. this guy seems cool as hell, too.

  • Screw the gay thing about the way he chokes the cymbals. This is still the most imformative and inspiring video on paradiddles on youtube so far. Thanks for the video.

  • aguemo q vergas1

  • AAAHH!!! I need to practice more on my paradidles!! When he go fast, i just cant see the pattern anymore. I'm green with envy! hahaha!

  • thank you for making this video !

  • Hey, what's wrong with you? Why this insulting-shit? Jeff Salem did great in this video, I like it.

If you shitbird don't like, play hide and f*** yourself

  • Your comment made me laugh man. Dude looks strung out or something. He's got some sweet grooves though. What's up with the sensitive chokes?

  • LMAO

  • It's the way he insist on silencing his cymbals. It's takes ages before he starts talking again. That's the only thing I hate about this video though.

  • Are the beats on the base drum in the first groove on 1 and 3 or is it 1 and 4? This is the best paradiddle video.

  • When he doe the jazz groove i dunno whether to get inspired or cry like a biatch!! Great stuff though!

  • sick grooves

  • Unfortunately we tried that but we were experiencing plenty of feedback, so with the time delay before I spoke it worked out. It didn't look the best though.

  • he says on the second groove that he is gonna bring his left hand to the snare but he reeally brings his right to the snare

  • Good stuff despite the gay-melodramatic cymbal chokes.

  • I agree I could of feel asleep during this process, the sound tech ask me to hold the cymbals for 3 seconds before he turned my talked mic on to avoid feedback. That was his cue.

  • Hahaha man that sound guy ruined your credibility on this video!

hahha next time why doesnt he just turn on your mic when you stop playing?

  • Yeah it's really pointless haha

  • when he chokes a cymbal i start losing it laughing on the floor !!

  • This is very informative. But ya...the symbol muffling is hilarious. Its as if he put more focus into the symbol thing than the lesson. But very informative and excellent drumming.

  • I LOVE WHEN HE HOLDS THOSE SYMOLS!!!!

  • this guy is fundamentaly good

  • thats a good clinician. jeff salem.funky white boy!

  • Ahh

Your face look serious when you touch your cymbal ^^"

  • great video but why does he always have the awkward pause where he grabs the cymbals after he plays a groove. i laughed my ass off at 4:05

  • wow. im so gettin into paradiddles now

  • OMG THATS FRIGGIN AWESOME LOL

  • What is the bass drum pattern? Typically it is beats 1 and 3. I have no idea

  • man his kit sounds great

  • wow i'm def gonna have a go at some of these

  • He really likes his cymbal :-)

  • matt here, I was told to search this from my friend, i want to know what also can help with LIMB co-ordination such as keeping a steady beat on hi-hat and do what ever with the bass drum without ruining the beat for instance, my right hand and right foot/leg work together sorta' and I seem to mess up a beat sometimes when I hold maybe 8's with high hat and something like anything with bass drum. Can anyone help me?

  • That could be"Jefferdrumbeats" as opposed to"Greggerdrumbeats"!

Good stuff from Mr.Jeff Salem! Keep em comin' Brainy

  • i like how long he holds the cymbals for ever.

  • i like when he says ..."you can come up with these neat little ideaas and stuff like thaat."

  • the funky half time groove at 3:00 or somethin is amazing. :]

  • paradiddles are one of the main things i struggle with getting them up to speed. you kind of just jump into it at a high speed once you get the concept in, and you add a lot of new grooves and stuff too fast for people unfamiliar to paradiddles.

  • wow that is wicked style - makes me want to paraDIDDLE myself

i will never neglect my paradiddles again

  • @Bassball lol

  • whooaaaaaaaa that was amazing..i can do the single paradiddle so fast yet i never knew how to use it like this

  • Awesome indeed! Nice tips to understand paradiddle grooves and making them much more easy to play. Thanks for helping me taking my technique and feel to a higher level.

  • Very nice explanations. Paradiddles are amazing once you get them up tp speed and you can keep everything in time. Thanks for sharing your drumming experience.

  • owned/

  • took a glance at paradiddles and found this. found it helpful thanks :), nice kit too

  • I just started playing drums and i found this helpfull , ty :)

  • Nice drums dude !And thanks for the tips!

    And you are awesome...

  • Lethal.

  • You are very good. How old are You?

  • This video blows any other instructional video on paradiddles on Youtube out of the water.

    thank you so much

  • I agrreeee

  • once you get the groove down like you know it like the back of your hand the kick will fall into place, his first groove took me a month of practicing and i cant believe how one day it just all came togather

  • On the second "groove" where are you placing the bass drum? or if anyone could help me on that i would apreciate it! You kind of go a little fast in to the groove.Maybee i'm a little slow, but i'm digging the grooves!

  • I love how he explains the paradiddle as if to a first grader, but when he plays it he just plays with that pro feel and says "improvise" with the bass drum. It takes forever to be able to make those paradiddles sound like that with that feel, and just as long to just "improvise" with the bass drum. I mean, I can't do it.

  • I was actually hoping he was going to let us know what the bass drum pattern is - at least in the first groove. cause I can't figure it out

  • Comment removed

  • I love how he silences his cymbals. XD

    Good lesson tho :]

  • Well, now I'm interested in paradiddles again! Jeff, you're fantastic!

  • Great lesson.I, like you, was given tons of "variations of diddls" I did not practice the way i should have. I was 10 and wanted to just play Zep tunes it helped me in the groove aspect, for the past 3 I have been hitin the rudaments hard . I liked how you show how the finished product sounds before I started working on it. Pure insperation! It's amazing how many people you can fool by playing these little "tricks" but THEY WILL GET YOU GIG's! wish you would have showed where your putting bass.

  • Hey dude...YOUR AWESOME!!

can you please tell me what brand your kit is?

  • Awesome lesson! I've gotta try that now

  • good work man, it was very helpful

  • This video actually motivates me. Thanks alot! :]

  • thats well cool, simple but sounds very funky, keep the vids coming

  • Great job Jeff, Love the video. gotta love those paradiddles...TIM

  • awsome...

    thanks alot..

  • Wow you are an amazing drummer. Thanks for this video, I'm learning a lot from it. I'm practicing paradiddles a lot lately, so it's nice to be a little creative and experiment while practcing...

  • Very helpful, thanks man

  • Your an amazing teacher\drummer

    teach me plz!!!!!

  • sounds like he has a cold.

  • thanks for the video. It really helps.

  • nice sounding drums too!

  • This guy is a great teacher! Goes at a great pace...for even a slow "experienced" drummer like myself!

  • Excellente.Glad I stumbled onto this post.Great ideas for Latin feels.Very well explained and easy to understand. Thanks Jeff.

  • good job, man! very clear. i could have used a little slower, a little longer, before going into the faster modes. very tasteful, however, and helpful!

  • try mike johnston.. he's the BEST drum teacher!

  • FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "More Cowbell".........snl

  • good ideas

  • HEY I am playing these but my hand wants to stop, why.

  • because you aren't used to the groove, try going slow and working your way up

  • Hey thats with me too, you know, Cuz we are rock players originally, so its hardest for us to get used tio playing oustide the back beats. But just train your hands slow, im in this process.

  • This is a really nice video for paradiddles for beginners. I like the added fill to make it sound "groovy."

    ^_^

  • When Jeff had hair down to his ass he once shit on his hair!...Saints & Sinners RULE!!

  • lol

  • why the fuck doesnt he just grab the cymbal so it will stop ringing, it just barely grabs it which leaves it ringing and us waiting on him, that's so stupid. just really grab it! ha

  • maybe he just doens't want big hand prints on the cymbal, it tarnishes the finish.

  • i like how long it takes for his cymbals to stop sounding....

  • ????

  • excelent .... good combinations of paradidles...... teachers...!!!

  • I would love to take some lessons from him but he charges so fucking much

  • wtf with his mouth? XD

  • AWESOME!

  • man he looks tired, busy guy

  • that is sooo cool!! :D

  • Neat n Nice.

  • Mr. Nickle would be impressed I'm sure...LOL
