I think it may have been make-up strictly as an entertainer only kind of thing.

It has to go on heavy that way bcuz then it can be seen from a far distance(major definition). That is also done in professional photograhpy as well.

in stage makeup you're supposed to make your foundation a couple shades too dark because the strong lights comopletely wash you out. That's why her face makeup is the "wrong" color.
