Chicom type 56s generally suck. Their parts are made on a punch press, the barrels have horrible craftsmanship, and the all-around performance SUCKS. A large number of rifles that have made it into the US market are Type 56s. Both AK47s and SKSs. This is why the general public thinks AK variants are inaccurate.

The AK-47 is a definitive battle rifle and is is definitely capable of 2 MAO at 100 yards. This means you can shoot 3+ groups of 5 shots back to back, and all rounds will land within a 2 inch group at 100 yards. It's battle accurate at a minimum of 300 yards.
If you're getting a 12 inch group, it just means your horrendous at shooting. Clamp the gun in a vice and laser sight it... not shoulder fire.

Five 10 round groups at 100 yds before, then 4900 rounds as fast as the trigger can be pulled. Then another five 10 round groups for comparison to see how bad your barrel is burned out. You can bring a bag to haul your pieces( melted aluminum) home.
i have this rifle...high capacity 10 rds...idk...when i bought mine it came with an 8rd clip...i was able to find some 25rd mags at the gun show from sure fire arms...mags fit and work great no complaints...best rifle ive shot so far no jams...gotta love kalashnikov
As I understand it, a bad storm hit the FBMG facility in Summer 2009, causing the roof to collapse. Some financial troubles in Fall of that year may have caused the company to collapse. Evidently, many people had a good deal of money tied up in deposits and pre-orders when things came crashing down. It's a shame, really, since FBMG had enjoyed a fairly sterling reputation until then.
The model on my aimpoint is Comp M3 I agree the MOA is 2 at 100 meters, but the way you are doing your math is wrong. With the naked eye I can't even see the first 4 clicks on the red dot because they are just too small. It would take a magnifier to be able to see the first 4 clicks, because as you claim the magnifier makes the dots larger. So with my scope at 1000 meters assuming my bullets can reach they would be off target about 20 inches
@lorddinaire the saiga .308, with a 20"+ barrel, is effective out to 1000 yards, just like any other .308 caliber rifle. an interesting thing about the saiga .223 and .308 is they are actually very accurate semi-auto platforms, due to the slower burning powder used in the .223 and .308 caliber rounds the weapon is subjected to less vibration during its operation, where as the 7.62x39 uses a powder much like a pistol type, which burns quickly and hard, causing the weapon to be inaccurate.

@lorddinaire for out to 1000 yards i would recommend using the 21-22" barreled saiga .308, at those ranges the extra velocity will be very advantageous. as for optics, it really depends on how good your eyes are...there are the obvious options such as leupold...but they cost over double the cost of a fully converted and upgraded saiga .308, and i tend to use the rule of thumb that optics should never exceed the price of the weapon their mounted on.
i would say either a SS scope, magnification power depends on your eyes or preferance, but think about it well because their fixed. a falcon scope could also be a nice addition, and its not fixed magnif either, though SOME may say that the optical clarity are not as high as the SS. dont be shocked when people tell you your crazy for even thinking about taking a AK platform out to 1000 yards...but a 1 MOA weapon should be able to print 12-14" groups out at 1000, handloads will do better.
@annihilationnegitive As far as I understand the only rifle out of the AK platforms that is not overtly accurate is the AK 47 which is the original AK. AK 74 AK 308 AK 101 etc etc are all supposed to be fairly accurate at around 1000 meters. All of them are super reliable. I got a 223 AUG right now which is accurate up to 500 meters. but for the price im looking at the saiga 308 which has more stopping power and range.
@TheCashistrash not quite. you will never take a 5.45x39 round out to 1000 meters, effectively at least. also given the mechanical inaccuracy caused by the AK's gas system your 1000 yard groupings, wouldnt be much of anything to call a grouping. commonly the most accurate AK platform you will see is the saiga .308, and even then 1MOA is about as good as you will get, with the occasional sub MOA here and there. a 1MOA rifle can reach out to 1000, but i wouldnt call it accurate.
@annihilationnegitive Well at 1000 meters depending on ammo it might be possible to get 10 inches from center but that person needs to be a very good rifleman and if they are using the 308 maybe like the m110 the 5.45 would have a hard time at 1000 meters but it is still possible but keep in mind this ammo is not sniper grade. it was meant for combat under 500 meters.
@TheCashistrash i understand we are just talking about accuracy here...but im going to throw this out there anyway...a 5.56 or 5.45 is going to be useless past 500 meters...unless you get a head shot...the .308 with a 175 BTHP (m118 LR clone) load is a very capable 1000 yard round, and even a bit beyond...but like i said...the AK platform simply does not have the mechanical accuracy to achieve these shots consistently nor accurately at such a range.
@annihilationnegitive Realistically the effective range on the aimpoint would be about 500 meters altho you can probably use it for 1000 meters a good rifleman can compensate using the top part of the dot as a guide vs the center. Like anything else a rifleman needs to know his/her equipment and how it functions under different conditions. Soilders in the military shoot things about 300 meters away just using iron sights. If you have any true experience with equipment you should know that.

@annihilationnegitive as I claimed before at 1000 meters with a 20 inch deviation from center point altho not the scope i would ideally use it is still feasible. You aim for the sternum and draw a circle around him that is 20 inch in radius from the sternum about half your bullets should hit at that range if you are shooting a zombie who is standing up.
@TheCashistrash yes, however you first stated 10" diameter from center, or 20" group over all if you do the math, which would be a 2MOA weapon...the human torso is aproximatly 18" across, half that for aiming dead center and you have 9" of possible hit, leaving 1" off...so a 90% chance of hit (in a perfect situation). adding in for wind and your round could go as far off as 20+ inches either way with just a light breeze.

@annihilationnegitive well you were asking about sights not the ak platform. AK was built mostly for reliability not accuracy but there is huge difference between an ak 47 which is very inaccurate vs an AK 103 or the newer variants but then again Non are the AK rifles are considered sniper rifles.

no rifles are considered sniper rifles except sniper rifles. very few semi-automatic weapons have been given the distinction of a sniper rifle, most are designated marksmen rifles. the overwhelming majority of true sniper rifles are all bolt actions, with sub .5 MOA accuracy, consistently.
@TheCashistrash AK47 inaccuracy is a myth. I've shot a good many Aks of varying vintage and origins. A decent rifle with a good bore and halfway decent ammo will shoot 2" or 3" groups all day. Most accuracy complaints come from conscript soldiers, insurgents with zero training or intoxicated gangbangers and rednecks with a new toy.
@WurledPeas they are inaccurate on full auto. It has to do with harmonics causes the barrel to bend on every 5th round. Saigas, veprs are reinforced barrels and they are awesome, Yugos and Bulgarians are good. Chinese and Romanian suck. Single shot you won't see a difference. My saiga 308 will do 2 inch hot. 1.5 cold with machine gun bulk. I do 4-5 with wolf

@TheCashistrash what? ok this is total non-sense...the smallest dot you can get on a aimpoint is 2MOA, so the dot covers 2" at 100 yards. placing a magnifier on a red dot also increases the dot size by about 25% per 1x magnification,so with 10x mag your dot will be a 7MOA dot, given that...at 1000 yards the dot will cover roughly 5 and a half feet, actually a little more...how would you even see your target when your dot is large enough to cover 3 men standing side by side?
@annihilationnegitive The dot can be adjusted to the size of a pin tip at least mine can. There are a few aimpoint red dots out there. My particular aimpoint has 9 settings. With the naked eye i keep it at 7 clicks at 100 meters standing up and no scope i get 4 moa. with a 10X magnifier at 1000 meters i would probably recommend 1 or 2 clicks. Being honest i doubt if the red dot would be practical beyond 1000 meters.

Chicom type 56s generally suck. Their parts are made on a punch press, the barrels have horrible craftsmanship, and the all-around performance SUCKS. A large number of rifles that have made it into the US market are Type 56s. Both AK47s and SKSs. This is why the general public thinks AK variants are inaccurate.

The AK-47 is a definitive battle rifle and is is definitely capable of 2 MAO at 100 yards. This means you can shoot 3+ groups of 5 shots back to back, and all rounds will land within a 2 inch group at 100 yards. It's battle accurate at a minimum of 300 yards.
If you're getting a 12 inch group, it just means your horrendous at shooting. Clamp the gun in a vice and laser sight it... not shoulder fire.

Five 10 round groups at 100 yds before, then 4900 rounds as fast as the trigger can be pulled. Then another five 10 round groups for comparison to see how bad your barrel is burned out. You can bring a bag to haul your pieces( melted aluminum) home.

As I understand it, a bad storm hit the FBMG facility in Summer 2009, causing the roof to collapse. Some financial troubles in Fall of that year may have caused the company to collapse. Evidently, many people had a good deal of money tied up in deposits and pre-orders when things came crashing down. It's a shame, really, since FBMG had enjoyed a fairly sterling reputation until then.

The model on my aimpoint is Comp M3 I agree the MOA is 2 at 100 meters, but the way you are doing your math is wrong. With the naked eye I can't even see the first 4 clicks on the red dot because they are just too small. It would take a magnifier to be able to see the first 4 clicks, because as you claim the magnifier makes the dots larger. So with my scope at 1000 meters assuming my bullets can reach they would be off target about 20 inches

@lorddinaire the saiga .308, with a 20"+ barrel, is effective out to 1000 yards, just like any other .308 caliber rifle. an interesting thing about the saiga .223 and .308 is they are actually very accurate semi-auto platforms, due to the slower burning powder used in the .223 and .308 caliber rounds the weapon is subjected to less vibration during its operation, where as the 7.62x39 uses a powder much like a pistol type, which burns quickly and hard, causing the weapon to be inaccurate.

@lorddinaire for out to 1000 yards i would recommend using the 21-22" barreled saiga .308, at those ranges the extra velocity will be very advantageous. as for optics, it really depends on how good your eyes are...there are the obvious options such as leupold...but they cost over double the cost of a fully converted and upgraded saiga .308, and i tend to use the rule of thumb that optics should never exceed the price of the weapon their mounted on.

i would say either a SS scope, magnification power depends on your eyes or preferance, but think about it well because their fixed. a falcon scope could also be a nice addition, and its not fixed magnif either, though SOME may say that the optical clarity are not as high as the SS. dont be shocked when people tell you your crazy for even thinking about taking a AK platform out to 1000 yards...but a 1 MOA weapon should be able to print 12-14" groups out at 1000, handloads will do better.

@annihilationnegitive As far as I understand the only rifle out of the AK platforms that is not overtly accurate is the AK 47 which is the original AK. AK 74 AK 308 AK 101 etc etc are all supposed to be fairly accurate at around 1000 meters. All of them are super reliable. I got a 223 AUG right now which is accurate up to 500 meters. but for the price im looking at the saiga 308 which has more stopping power and range.

@TheCashistrash not quite. you will never take a 5.45x39 round out to 1000 meters, effectively at least. also given the mechanical inaccuracy caused by the AK's gas system your 1000 yard groupings, wouldnt be much of anything to call a grouping. commonly the most accurate AK platform you will see is the saiga .308, and even then 1MOA is about as good as you will get, with the occasional sub MOA here and there. a 1MOA rifle can reach out to 1000, but i wouldnt call it accurate.

@TheCashistrash i understand we are just talking about accuracy here...but im going to throw this out there anyway...a 5.56 or 5.45 is going to be useless past 500 meters...unless you get a head shot...the .308 with a 175 BTHP (m118 LR clone) load is a very capable 1000 yard round, and even a bit beyond...but like i said...the AK platform simply does not have the mechanical accuracy to achieve these shots consistently nor accurately at such a range.

@annihilationnegitive Realistically the effective range on the aimpoint would be about 500 meters altho you can probably use it for 1000 meters a good rifleman can compensate using the top part of the dot as a guide vs the center. Like anything else a rifleman needs to know his/her equipment and how it functions under different conditions. Soilders in the military shoot things about 300 meters away just using iron sights. If you have any true experience with equipment you should know that.

You aim for the sternum and draw a circle around him that is 20 inch in radius from the sternum about half your bullets should hit at that range if you are shooting a zombie who is standing up.

@TheCashistrash yes, however you first stated 10" diameter from center, or 20" group over all if you do the math, which would be a 2MOA weapon...the human torso is aproximatly 18" across, half that for aiming dead center and you have 9" of possible hit, leaving 1" off...so a 90% chance of hit (in a perfect situation). adding in for wind and your round could go as far off as 20+ inches either way with just a light breeze.

Saigas, veprs are reinforced barrels and they are awesome, Yugos and Bulgarians are good. Chinese and Romanian suck. Single shot you won't see a difference. I had a MAK 90 and it is accurate as is my WASR2. Sure ARs are more accurate but that does not make the AK series inherently not so.

I've seen people get 1 inch groups at 100 with Saiga 308s.
I've seen AR-15s that 2 inch or more groups at 100 yards.
All depends on the gun itsself. Maybe since you have fat fingers and the stock is bouncing off your jelly rolls as you shoot, internet tough guy, you fail at shooting all guns but got 3 inch groups with an ar-15 at 100 yards once so you think yourself a expert.

Especially Haji's old Soviet POS with what ammo exactly? Put some optics on a new AK being the sights suck and that 12" will tighten right up. Still, that's in line with what I said before 4 moa at 100 would be about 12" at 300.

One thing I would like to remind you of though, is that the AK will always supersede any AR in regards to reliability.
The AR's accuracy is fine, but when the gun doesn't work, it's not going to do you any good.
You can put handfuls of dirt into an AK receiver, put the dust cover on, and cycle the gun fine. Do that with an AR, it will fail.
The AK can run dry with no oil, the AR can't.

@lorddinaire Well the 308 bullet should be sufficient for getting to 1000 meters range. For accuracy I love the red dot aimpoint and put a magnifier on it at 1000 meters i recommend a 10X or something close to it.

@TheCashistrash what? ok this is total non-sense...the smallest dot you can get on a aimpoint is 2MOA, so the dot covers 2" at 100 yards. placing a magnifier on a red dot also increases the dot size by about 25% per 1x magnification,so with 10x mag your dot will be a 7MOA dot, given that...at 1000 yards the dot will cover roughly 5 and a half feet, actually a little more...how would you even see your target when your dot is large enough to cover 3 men standing side by side?

@annihilationnegitive The dot can be adjusted to the size of a pin tip at least mine can. There are a few aimpoint red dots out there. My particular aimpoint has 9 settings. With the naked eye i keep it at 7 clicks at 100 meters standing up and no scope i get 4 moa. with a 10X magnifier at 1000 meters i would probably recommend 1 or 2 clicks. Being honest i doubt if the red dot would be practical beyond 1000 meters.

It's called a NORMAL capacity magazine. High capacity is over 30 rounds for a battle or assault type rifle. Everything below 20 is a LIMITED capacity magazine.

A clip is internal (think M1 Garand), or a striper clip (think SKS). Mags are external, like on AK's, M4 an so on.

I apologize for this question but my sounds card isnt working.
Are the HC AK.308 mags regular AK762 mags, Modified FAL mags, modified Saiga 12 or other type of proprietary magazine?
How difficult are decent mags to source for it?
I ask because I've been after a semi .308 but can't chalk up the cash for the FAL,M14,G3 or AR308 etc. Oh and what about HQ picatinny furniture?
