It's not supposed to be a normal bike though. It's science fiction. The bike CAN take corners at 300 MPH because of the technology. It's theoretically possible.
@GrandDizzy It's "thoretically possible" you say. Mind telling us which "theory" you're using to propose that possibility? Mind laying out the theoretical equations, even only roughly-speaking seeing as symbols and sub- or super-scripts hardly postable here?
@RingSight91 I didn't say I've invented the technology, just that it's not impossible. Jarbon5 criticised the bike's "impossible" feats, but that's like criticising Star Trek's communicators in 1967. Just because something can't be done with current tech doesn't mean it's physically impossible. Who's to say humans will never build intertia-defying spacecraft? It seems far easier for a ground-based vehicle which can physically anchor itself to the road. It's narrow-minded to call it "impossible".
@GrandDizzy If you say something is "theoretically possible", then you better be damned sure you have a "theory" to back it up. Otherwise you're just "guessing", or in scientific terms, saying something is "hypothetically" possible. Without a Theoretical Basis, your Hypothesis is free to be called the BS that it is.
Bikes+Riders can't do 300+ mph [and stay in one piece] period; even just going straight. Ask all the people who've tried at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
@RingSight91 "Theoretically possible" as in not definitively impossible. Many TV shows feature feats that are definitively impossible, such as an ordinary person leaping a great distance, or a car doing stunts that wouldn't be possible in real life. But when you have a science fiction series featuring undisclosed technology (i.e. they don't tell us how it works) then what they're showing us is only currently impossible. We can't say it's impossible because we don't know how the technology works.
@GrandDizzy Hell no. "Theoretically Possible" means "Can be possibly tested with a generally-accepted Theory". Einstein's "Energy is Equal to amount of Mass Accelerated to the Speed of Light" or "e=mc^2" was "just" a "theory" until Oppenheimer and the gang tested the first Nuclear Device in Trinity, New Mexico years after the said Theory was published.
What, in your deluded opinion, was the Theory of Operation behind Hyperthrust? How many Gs to round a corner in Los Angeles at 200 mph?
@RingSight91 Look I obviously haven't made myself clear. Let me put it another way: You can't criticise Superman because it's "impossible for people to fly". However, if the camera cuts and the time suddenly jumps backwards on the clock in the background, then that is clearly an ERROR and you CAN criticise it. All I'm saying is you can't say a show is flawed because the sci-fi is "impossible". Superman flying is the PREMISE of the show, like an inertia-defying bike is the PREMISE of Street Hawk.
@GrandDizzy Let me make myself "clear" while we're at it.
- Superman flying is possible based on the PREMISE that he is an extra-terrestrial alien with a different cellular and molecular composition than humans.
- A streetbike with Hyperthrust is a GIMMICK because it was just riding on the coattails of another show which featured a ride which could go very fast at the press of a button: The Colonial Viper Mk I and its "Turbo" button.
Both KITT and AirWolf owe their "boosters" to Orig. BSG.
@RingSight91 The Starship Enterprise travelling through space and defying inertia is not currently possible, but the programme is telling us that they have invented a way to achieve that, so it's not like the concept of the programme is flawed. That is the nature of science fiction. And often science fiction of the present turns out to be science fact of the future. No one can definitely say inertial dampening is impossible. So I don't see how this programme can be criticised on that basis.
@GrandDizzy This program can be criticized precisely because they don't even provide a Theoretical Framework on how Hyperthrust works. All they do is (1) Supposedly clear traffic at the intended route, and (2) Boost the bike's jet turbine thrust output to reach the desired velocity. Aside from his special-fitting, custom-made rider's suit, there was not a damn thing added that would supposedly keep him mounted while the bike ran on computer control.
@GrandDizzy There are high powered bikes that can reach close to 300 mph and have incredible acceleration, however i agree taking corners like that at 300mph ahahahah, only jets can turn like that - maybe streethhawk would need flaps too. Lets just enjoy this childhood favourite and stop the bickering.
While the bike is in Hyperthrust, the computer controls all manouvers. With the integrated 8088 CPU, pro problem. Everything in realtime but no "divide-by-zero error" please :-D
I still to this day remember street hawk being over taken by a pick-up truck whilst it was "hyper-thrusting", guess the pickup was another top secret anti crime super vehicle ;p
I hated having to fight with my parents over watching this show back when I was a kid.My dad would always be like "There is no way in hell that guy could ride that bike like that in real life!!" I wanted to tell him it was a tv show not real life.If I wanted to watch real life shit I would have watched the news!!
I can remember the grown folks arguing about how much they hated this show, because a bike, taking a corner at 300 mph, won't be able to take the corners like this bike did. I was like, "Shut up! Who cares!?", cuz I liked the show. It lasted for only a few weeks, but I loved it:)
@jarbon5 I agree with you. Them oldsters probably didnt realise that 100 years ago bikes only did about 10mph top! Its all about the technology. I rechon there are bikes that could do this speed, Only there probably Jap and not the American junk we get sold.. I would love to go out with a hyperthrust! weeeee oooooooooo!!!!!
Anyone ever notice how every show of the 80s seemed to always be based in Cali? lol At least now they try to make it more realistic and show different places! Just funny how the 80s were so corny yet so dang good, no decade since has been that cool! (And dont mention Miami Vice lol)
With the benefit of a little technical education, I think I can now propose what Street Hawk may have done for Hyperthrust:
Link into a GPS system and prepare an obstacle free route, also analyse new info on the fly probably within the range of 100 m each side and calculate the probabilities for the best route.
Such a complex system would be best housed somewhere safe where it would not be exposed to the shocks of the bike, i.e. if it were on the bike.

Also, Jesee wasn't in control of Street Hawk in Hyperthrust Mode which is why it had to be called in, instead Street Hawk was piloted by the mainfraim set up in Tuttle's lab.
Ero piccolo e mio padre vedendo il telefilm insieme a me mi disse, meno male non c'è neanche cane che atraversa la sua strada... hahahaha. Mi a fatto pensare però.
The suit Jesse wore was basically an advanced design on a flight suit which allowed him to withstand the extreme speed Street Hawk could travel in Hyperthrust.
i can understand the hyperthrust on the straight road but how can a super bike turn at such high speeds. Secondly when i was a kid i knew that it was a fast playback but the music and the bike thrust really got the adrenaline rushing thru me! :xD

c'était filmé avec une camera qui capture 1 image par seconde il me semble, c'est le même procédé que le retour du jedi, le dernier effet à la mode de l'époque ^^

I havent read all the comments, but strange the issue of "G-forces" hasn't been raised! Still loved watching it tho!

:xD

I distinctly remember an episode where he performs a u-turn while doing Hyperthrust. Awesome.
Jiggauk123 3 years ago
I remember that too, i think he decelerated turned and then went back into hyperthrust.

The name of that episode was called "Unsinkable"

Look this is an easy trick to perform without any form of cheating....speeding up the camera or otherwise:
Just execute a post-vindaloo and guiness binge power fart whilst riding a 1983 Honda XL500 around some very dodgy looking crime-free scenery.
...and Bob (or in this case, Norman) is yer uncle.

no offense but his helmet looks like a vibrator during hyper thrust :)

chiodeguate1 3 years ago 4
this is fake, they just speed up tape and thats all.
