I do agree European cars are better- well except for the whole reverse thread bolts, funky wiring systems(that ALWAYS screw up with floating and reverse grounds). In a Mercedes if one sensor or relay goes bad it wreaks havock on the entire system of the car. The engines last longer than American cars but everything else on them fails first.

2 things to remember. The front end is supposed to crumple like that. It's expensive to replace, but it absorbs the impact energy and keeps a lot of the blunt force out of the passenger compartment. Second, this is a pretty fast impact at 40-45 mph. Think about it, in most wrecks, the driver will probably have slammed the brakes and hits at speeds much lower than that.
