I agree with you about the Batman issue. I'm not overly fond of Christian Bale as Batman, but he makes a fabulous Bruce Wayne. I absolutely believed he was the character, in every way. His Batman can be better though, but there is always room for improvement. And Michael Keaton as Batman? He's my favorite, down pat. As Bruce? ...eh. Not a fan.
I agree with just about everything you said. I like Hellsing, but he did not give valid arguments in this video. I agree that Ledger was the best physical Joker, but my favorite of all time is still Mark Hamill. I didn't hate Nicholson's Joker, but as you said, he was just being Nicholson. I hate Bale as Batman, but he was good as Bruce Wayne. Keaton is still the best Batman, in my opinion.
People don't get that movies translate differently to comic books. Movies have to bring in their own authenticity. Dark knight was good as a comic interpretation. Spectacular for a movie. Yeah, it doesn't exactly correspond to canon but there is a reason why it's called "Nolan's Batman Franchise".
@carrotxdawg It's impossible for a movie to be 100% accurate the comics. Just the basics and most important aspects of the characters are fine. Nolan did get the basics and most important aspects of the characters in his movie. Except for 3 characters (Ra's Al Ghul, Detective Flass, and Commissioner Loeb; although Loeb and Flass were both very minor characters so it's not that big of a deal).
@EclipseHedgehog took you two days to reply with that! seconed since how does that make any sense as a comparison

Hellsing920 did not say that he hated the movie. He said it was a good movie, but flawed, and not the greatest movie ever made. I happen to agree with him on this. This movie was about a half hour too long, mostly because of the pointless filler subplots.
@Leatherbubba his points were complete and utter shit! i really expected more from him as a reviewer. Eric completly shreds him in this video and what pointless side plots are you talking about did you even pay attention during the film. Sorry but if a film comes out and the majority of people praise it and only a small fraction of people don't then the issues are with those people themselfs as human beings not the film!
@hyuthestampede The whole Hong Kong scene could have been cut down alot, and the whole Coleman Reese subplot could have been written out altogether, They could have come up with a different reason for Joker to blow up a hospital. Dark Knight is a smart movie for stupid people. It constantly spoonfeeds you what the themes are,or what the characters are going through. You don't need a speech ever ten minutes to recap everything that has already happend. I know what happend.
@Leatherbubba give me a movie which does do these things perfectly then because i assume you now what planet you'r talking about when you call the dark knight a smart film for stupid people come on i dare you!
because you just pretty much dicredited all the critics and famous people (more famous then you'll ever be) who praise this movie and give it its fair dues where it's clearly earned them.
@hyuthestampede I'm not trying to discredit anybody. I don't care about anybody elses opinion. I think Dark Knight is a bit overrated, end of story. I like the Nolan Batman movies, but I don't see them as perfect films. I don't have much use for Christopher Nolan outside of Batman to be perfectly honest. I find his movies so boring and literal minded.
@Leatherbubba fair enough thank you for being honest, don't get me wrong i know the movie has problems that some people can look past and others can't. I only meant to say that every thing eric says in the video is pretty much on the spot. Hellsings video was terrible i mean he lost so much respect from me that day he was making no sense he was being completly biased and obiously went into the movie not wanting to enjoy it which after all isen't that the point of movies in the first place?
@muterabbit he didn't say think of 3 better Jokers he said think of 3 other Jokers. Making the point that hell sing just named everyone he could think of for the single reason of making ledger look bad
@SavageVandar actually Jacks Joker did suck. he didnt act anything like joker did at the time or ever for that matter. im not saying he is a bad actor but to say is joker was good means that you have never read a comic with the joker in it. also with ledger he added a spin on the way the joker acted at the time while still being able to see the comic joker in ther. jack just played jack
As you said if it's engaging and also entertaining time has never bugged me.
I'm not attacking you, but what issues do you have with the LOTR movies? I wouldn't say I like them any more or less than DARK KNIGHT by the very fact that they're in different genres, and in my opinion at the tops of those genres. Not to say that it's impossible to compare films in different genres. 'Cause it's obvious to say THE GODFATHER is better than BATTLEFIELD EARTH. I'm just saying I'm not biased towards one.
The Hong Kong and Batman wannabe scenes really should've been cut. Also, I thought it was stupid that you challenged him to think of other actors that did a better job of portraying the Joker. I mean you moved the goal line because you didn't like the portrayals of the character that he chose as examples? Come on. Finally, whether he criticized Ledger's acting ability or whether he criticized the style of the portrayal makes no difference. It's all subjective.

Harvey Den has dark hair, was married to Gilda Dent, not dating Racheal, & got his 2ed face from an exploding package of acid Sal Maroni sent him. & the Joker does not look like the lovechild of Beetlejuice & the Crow.
I'm a fan of the guy, though he really did seem negative towards the film. Sure, he was getting bullshit from those batshit crazy fans... but all the complaints he gave, I can't see them bumping it down to a 7 (... .3 ... seriously?).
And the fact that he would have given it a 3 if it hadn't been entertaining?
thank god you stood up for this film, it,s not the best movie of all time but its not a 7.3 rated film either.9 out of 10 and heath ledger was easily the best joker of all time
I think he may have reviewed the movie badly just to piss of the fanboys that supposedly threatened him. I didn't really like The Joker in Dark Knight but Heath Ledger did carry most of the movie. And Mark Hamill's my favorite probably just because I grew up watching him.
A film's length hinges for me on whether or not anything could be cut out, if there are any needless scenes. I think this one is pretty solid. I think they could have cut out him going to Japan to get the banker and done that in gotham but that's all of ten minutes in buildup.
They couldnt have cut him out of going to Hong Kong. It was important to the story, as it introduces a very important plot device. Nothing needed to be cut at all.
It allowed Batman to find the Joker. Without it, he would have never been able to find the Joker and stop him from killing all the people on those two boats. It was essential to the story they had written. There is no reason to cut it out.
But it was best for the story they wrote. They came up with an interesting concept, and made it incredibly important to the story.
Also, look at it like this. Lets say they didnt use sonar, and batman just searched the city, eventually he would find him, but by then, it probably would have been too late.
...It's a movie. It's subject to the writer. It wouldn't have been too late if they didn't want it to be late. Joker could have dropped a hint like he died every other time in the film.
Once again, how is it "incredibly important"? He found Joker with it. There was a very, very minor thing with Fox. That's it.
I think we disagree on this one. lol. Great film though.
really i love em and never found them boring even when i was younger and didnt know much about film. to me the dark knight was boring in ever seen without ledger, i also thought that the should have ende it with the joker hanging off the side of the building and had two- face be the villian of the next film along with the ventrilliquist guy
i wanted to love it, but i think the reason y i think its medicore is because of all the hype around the film, and not being able to see it till dvd. Tried to love it but the only thing i injoyed was ledger, Bale annoyed the fuck out of me.
I didn't like either Heath or Bale's preformances BUT Heath is a very good actor and plays the character really well but its the character in the movie itself I don't like. For Bale I dislike him in most of the movies he's in and I did like him a Bruce Wayne but in costume not so much. I like the movie itself but I would say I prefer Batman Begins and Batman 1(986) but I would defninatly give it 4 stars and recomend it to anyone that hasnt seen it
Batman Begins is a better Batman film...but the original 4 and the crap that Adam West did are in no way batman movies. They're more like Space Balls, just movies trying to make fun of something awesome, but not the real thing.
Then they're not really batman movies. I mean, if they don't respect the character or show respect to the source material in any shape or form, I don't consider them to be real Adaptations.
I see your point entirely but people that don't read the comics just won't care y'know? Personally, The Dark Knight is the only one I even barely like and that was just because Two-Face is the only DC character I like (that I know of).
It depends really the first of hte four original batan movies is good the other three are more parodies BUT they are more faithful adaptions than Batman Begins and The Dark Knight which have so far altered all the superhero/villains backstories with the exception of scarecrow and batman
No, no they are not. The backstories are altered in all of them. The Joker never dipped into a pool of acid. According to the Killing Joke, no one, not even the Joker knows how he came to be. The Dark Knight portrays this perfectly. Also, Batman Begins shows Bruce loseing his parents, and then traveling the world to become the fighter he needs to be in order to save Gotham. Thats also very true to the comics. Most importantly, all the characters in the Nolan films act ver similair to thier comic
Its cool. Most people like to be jerks, but I really dont see the point. I mean, I'm trying to ger people to come to my side of things, so why would I piss them off, and make them completely disagree with me simply because I was being a douche? It's just not productive, or helpful to my argument.
@King191912 don't worry fuck those idiots, they have basically no idea what the fuck is required of a great batman story because before nolan got involved they were use to being spoon fed plot points. so when somebody tries to write material which reflects the dark mature perspective(which i believe all things batman related should be) they simply dismiss it as filler which anyone who uses their brains can tell is complete bullshit.
book counterparts. Also, we never really get to know Ra's back story, and it wasnt really altered, sicne he was telling Bruce lies the entire time they trained together, so we really never get to know his backstory. Two-Face, yes, he was the one person they actually altered, but atleast he acts similair to the Tw-Face of the comics, unlike Tommy Lee Jones Two Face, which was nothing like its comic book counterpart. All of the original 4 are parodies, and a disgrace to the Batman name.
I mean the character of the Joker himself is different in the new ones. And I think Tommy lee jones was doing more of a jack nicholson impersonation than anything else like blowshimselfup dude has said. I liked Batman (1989) because in itself its a very good film and I'll be the first to admit Joel Schumacher needs to be shot for batman and robin and batman forever. Batman Returns, even though I like it was a complete and utter joke, you knew Tim Burton was taking the mick with that one
I had a simular argument with a another fellow on Power Rangers Forum, where he says that it's a dissapointing film. The guy and I wrote back and forth on many things that Hellsing920 commented like the Batman impersonators to the batman's voice (Though I also agree that it's bad but not difficult to listen to...) And he even said that Ledger's performance as the Joker was overrated. Ultimatly when I asked has he even read the comics, he tells me he only knows the characters from the films/TV.
Also, he OVEREXAGERATES! Which seems to be a problem with him(Examples Twilight and Dragon Ball evolution.). I checked out there SO CALL Critics who got death threats from fanboys and wanna know how many there were? 3, I think maybe 2. And I can barely remember the one I read but the critic said, this movie is like a M-Bay film with all the explosions.
What he and others exagerate is thinking how there are tons of people who threaten people/hurt them. Bigal for example with the twilight
I have no real issue with the Batman voice. The main reason why, is because I know that the sound editors purposely made his voice deeper than it was actually able to go. So, its really not Christain Bales fault. Also, he's my favorite in costume batman, and I also think he is the best. He is truer to the character of Batman than Keaton, but I still think Keaton is a very close 2nd. But that's just me.
Take him down a peg or two man. I was actually thinking about posting a response to his video, but I think you have summed up everything I was going to say.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Did you know that Heath Ledger was actually trying to get fired from being the Joker because he didn't want his performance as the Joker to define the rest of his film career.
I wanted to post a comment in Hellsing's Dark Knight vid. But the way he set it up, all of my comments would make look like a jackass. Plus he wanted people to pay for a DVD. Are you kidding.
I agree with you about the Batman issue. I'm not overly fond of Christian Bale as Batman, but he makes a fabulous Bruce Wayne. I absolutely believed he was the character, in every way. Its cool. Most people like to be jerks, but I really dont see the point. I mean, I'm trying to ger people to come to my side of things, so why would I piss them off, and make them completely disagree with me simply because I was being a douche? It's just not productive, or helpful to my argument.

thanks, more people should act like that

FilmRangers 2 years ago
Agreed, Joel Schumacher should have been punished for almost ruining the Batman name. Thanks God for Bruce Timm and the DCAU saving it.

Have you ever seen Equilibrium? That movie was practically tailor made for Bale as his character isn't supposed to have emotions anyway.

I've heard of the movie but i've never actually seen it.

100% Agreed that Guy is a Joke

NEGAMEGASII 2 years ago
Fangirls say they take brute force on people who like the film. Yet, there was maybe one or two stories of that happening.
BULLSHIT! Infact, they're stereotyping the fanbases. :O

Keep up the great work.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Did you know that Heath Ledger was actually trying to get fired from being the Joker because he didn't want his performance as the Joker to define the rest of his film career.

not true and everyone knew he was experimenting with drugs

I wanted to post a comment in Hellsing's Dark Knight vid. But the way he set it up, all of my comments would make look like a jackass. Plus he wanted people to pay for a DVD. Are you kidding.
