  • Some classic Ed Parker techniques.

  • this art developed from chineses martial arts like the japanes borrowed karate which developed in china

  • Im 40 and in pretty good shape, is it too late to learn Kenpo ?

  • @opencurtin as long as your in good physical health, I would recommend taking up martial arts. You can see a lot more Chinese Kenpo and Tai Chi on The Martial Artist Channel on internet television station ITS-DMS. The lead line for this site will reference "a grassroots effort ..."

  • @opencurtin There are video demos of various masters performing all sorts of techniques and acrobatics even up to 110 years old. I highly suggest yoga or Tai Chi/Chi Kung type exercise to start off with, develop flow and strength. Or at least practice slow and gentle at first. Kenpo is a good art for all ages and body types.

  • so.. Chinese Kenpo is easy, just always go for the groin! :D

  • do you guys use high kicks at all.

  • do you guys utilise utilise body or head kicks

  • Keep to the basics. You'll never use these techniques in sequence as you do. A basic punch and block learned properly will do.

  • You are attempting to do a good job with a 'Poor" understanding of the techniques!! The 1st tech would have been Falcons of force in the EPK , the 2nd waist of time and the 3rd is EPK as well but taught to the wrong side, but works on either if you understand the basics that are being taught. Seeing techniques performed in this manner is what has given, (EPK), Ed Parker Kenpo such a bad name. You need to go and train with those 1st generation black belts under EPK, then you will understand!!!

  • can you u/l more kenpo videos ive had this on my favorites for awhile now lol thanks

  • Ed Parker Kenpo all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I learned the First two Techniques as "Opponents at Sides " and "Bear hug Pinned in Back ". It's fun seeing the different names for techniques, and it was an alright demonstration by the way.

  • i assume this isnt mirrored because the two fists logo in the back means "deathmatch" as far as i know ^^

  • lol "there is no garuntee that these techniques will work in self defense situatiions"

  • 1.5 mins of disclaimers. nice.

  • Mider999 chuck lidell American kenpo. World class fighter... Next

  • And that's why Bruce lee decided he had all the training he needed after Ed Parker taught him kenpo in Hawaii ; ) Weird he didn't finish with something else right? Not when kenpo is the smallest amount of movement, with the most effective strikes. ( at least Ed parkers was )

  • first off, there was never a martial art form called kenpo. it was a misspelling from the students that lost their master, but continued training, period. the actual art is based on Kempo, but in a less complete form.

second, you got to be pretty damn ignorant and irresponsible to be teaching these things to people without any REAL instruction or control. there are things that can seriously hurt people if not kill them. not to mention the injuries for trying to do something you're not ready for

  • I do not study "chinese" or American Kenpo, however, as a student of Kosho ryu Kempo, I would like to add in that if, in your crossing talons technique, if you were to push in deeper after the lock, it would take the other hand out of the equation as he would instinctivly place his hand on the ground for fear of falling over...

  • The guy in the white is cute ^_^ haha.

  • that guy can also throw him on the ground when he is hitting by making him fall over his knee or feer

  • OMG Way too much time blown on the disclaimer sequence. YAWN

  • Ma miettet a diet,ne panzon e merd

  • Why? Chinese karate if

  • Why? Chinese karate if

  • Lol. Gi's cuz their harder to rip. Kempo was designed for practicality. So dress practical as well

  • I see clearly it is chinese of origin, bow stance obvious. I know kenpo also has animal styles (chinese), but why do you wear japanese Gi?

  • Commercialism. Same reason they have belt tests. Instead of training for ten years and going straight from white to black they give you a variety of belts so you won't quit and will keep giving them money.

  • ok know it all..The belts are to identify the level of experience of the students or stylists..TKD is infamous for testing fees but most Kenpo studios have none. Also the belts do give children a sense of achievemant and what is wrong with that..uhhh NOTHING.

  • They wear Japanese Gi because Kenpo came to Japan where it was called Shorinji Kempo, and later Kosho Ryu Kenpo under James Mitose in Hawaii, and then Kara Ho Kenpo under William Chow, who changed the color of the Gis from white to black to distinguish it as a combat martial art. Kenpo is a hybrid of Kung Fu, Karate, and Jujutsu, so it has both Chinese and Japanese influences. The Gi is reflective of the Japanese influence, whereas the Tiger/Dragon symbol is reflective of the Chinese influence.

  • or just maybe because the gi looks or feels good...there isn't always some hidden or deep meaning behind everything a martial artists does. In the last thirty years I have worn a variety of gi's just because

  • @Kippest well prob because theres martial arts dojo everywhere you should be able to find a chinese style martial arts in japan lol but about the Gi that may be the reason but it is indeed strange

  • Good Kenpo demos!

  • BOB has a Gi. How cute.

  • yeah but the other guy didnt. weird

  • This man's opponent is standing so far away from him that he would need a handgun to do any harm. As an instructor I can tell you that it is very easy to look good TALKING your way through techniques. At no point does this fellow actually demonstrate his abilities to us. Parker's techniques are far superior to these (more logical).

  • agreed. i think i know why it says, "It is not guaranteed that these techniques will actually work in a self defense situation!".

    Meaning, in other words...

don't be suprised if you get ur ass kicked, and got mugged for your lunch money, all because you tried this shit against the bully up the street...

  • You're not a very good instructor.

  • las artes marciales son lo mejor q hay definitivamente

  • The exit in driving exit should be to a 45 right? Perhaps it was and it didn't show well in the video. Seems to me the exit needs to be off the line of power.

  • PEOPLE hand chops are done with the side of the PALM not the FINGERS!!

  • and their called shutos......

  • you can use the edge of the hand (knifehand) or more of a forearm shot. The forearm has only two (very large) bones and the striking surface is harder.

  • This stuff would work good in a bar against a drunk person. On the streets, I'm not so sure. All the bear hugs I have seen, the guy was driven to the ground or wall to fast for anything.

  • u need to cut out all that bullshit disclaimers and just cut to the chase.

  • Yeah, good luck keeping kids from watching whatever the hell they want. They can lie. -shrug-

  • hint: i don't give a flying fuck what any one of you morons think about kenpo. so shut the fuck up.

  • I studied Chinese Kenpo and Shotokan Karate when I was around 14 and was a brown belt at 16. Unfortunately, I dropped out of it, but I was very good and the Chinese version of it is superior!

  • I don't really know much about this, but isn't kenpo/kempo a whole bunch of chinese martial arts? Like saying japanese japanese person, or american american flag.

  • This vid shows some pretty good moves. I have been studying judo for several years (brown belt) and I got an overall interest in martial arts, so I know it when I see something good. This guy has got some skills.

  • These are good techniques if you already know some martial arts. They wouldnt be much use for those with no background in karate or a hard kung fu style as the person wouldnt be able to generate proper hip power. Still, good applications for a traditional style.

  • The ignorance is astoundingly vast and fortified in the world of martial arts.

    1) Jeff O'Donnell knows his Kenpo, the art, history and philosophy. You ignorants don't even know what Kenpo means. Hint: It's Japanese. And no, Kenpo, the system, did not originate from Japan. BAKAYAROU!!

    2) Since you've read this far, I'll enlighten you. Kenpo is a Japanese term for CHINESE martial arts.

Do your research before making asses out of yourselves. The martial arts industry have enough asses already.

  • Yeah and you just showed us one of them asses!!!

  • You've just proven my point.

  • this wouldnt work for shit

  • then you wouldn't mind fighting him in a no-holds-barred match? lol I just love the screaming *air crackles from extreme bloodlust*

  • honestly this man is very dangerous

  • There is no such thing as Chinese kenpo. This is just a cheap copy of kenpo karate.

  • Kempo is a Chinese derived karate form.

  • wrong, kenpo karate is just a cheap copy of

    quan Fa (chinese kenpo)

  • Master Jeff (the one in all black) and Sensei Rob beat me up for years LOL. I'm better martial artist because of it:)

  • I like it well done sir.

  • why does he have on a tae kwon do gi....this is confusing me...kenpo guys don't wear that

  • Chinese??? Are you serious?!?!

  • I fell asleep with all those warnings

  • This is incredible! I never thought i would learn self defense against a dummy and a guy who goes with the choreography. This is real world self defense!! I guess this would all work if you could ask your attackers in advance to tell you exactly when they are punching at you. It would work out perfectly. And look amazing! lol Jesus I can't believe the kind of brainwashing that is going on in martial arts still! Wheww. For all who wonder--Everything I said was completely sarcastic . lol

  • chinese kenpo is deadly but not nearly as deadly as a korean wife.

  • Sorry this is off-topic but WOW, that guy has a LONG NECK! At first I thought it was an optical illusion but it's weird.

  • too many disclamers

  • If this is the Tracy's System of Kenpo Karate(which it looks like) he's got eagle pin and striking fang mixed up. Good Video though.

  • I do doubt it.

  • lol i dont think i have ever seen anyone say the names of the moves of chinese kenpo in forever. eagle pin is a fun move to practice since when you learn it you use another move you learned previously in the move. how fun!

  • Learn real Kenpo. Join AKKI

  • This guy is a good instructor. kenpo/ kempo systems are just plain cool.

  • Ha! I just let my fifteen year old nephew watch this. You wanna fight about it?

  • They should really put up some disclaimers before they start this video.

  • You can say that again. It's a bit excessive.

  • Respecting the video maker/owner for putting the warnings up on the video. It's also a sort of respect for its viewers & a safety measure for the creators. :)

  • This guy constantly emphasizes pacifying the opponent and then leave the situation ASAP. This is the right thing to do. This guy knows his stuff.

  • The most important aspect of martial arts is that hopefully you will never have to you it.

  • Is this the Sensei in this video Jeff O'Donnel from St. Louis???

If so, I used to study Chinesse Kenpo with him years ago....

Great Teacher and all around great guy!!!

    Do you train with him???

Does he still teach??? Sadly, the Dojo I used to go to up on HallsFerry, looks to be some Fly by night Tax Joint Now...

Does he have more videos ??? I'd like to see and and to be able to practice kenpo again when time permits...

Nice too see some Kenpo vids!

  • WAY to wide of arm movements.

  • this is true. He really should go over his videos again.

  • A watered version of thee hands of china.

  • Sorry to see so many resistant comments out there, no art is perfect, chinese kenpo is one of the better styles for any actual combat situation. I studied from the Ed Parker style, it's been altered some. Now I'm doing Cage fighting and my knowledge of stand up fighting and take downs is paying off. Viva Ed Parker!!!

  • true some techniques wont work like directing your opponents punch at another opponent

  • to the video poster, what do you think of Ed Parker Kenpo, compared to Chines Kenpo ??

from what he says, Chines Kenpo is Useless to use against gun point or realistic situations.

whats your take on this ??

  • I'm the shooter of the video. I've been a karateka (Uechi-Ryu) since 1976. I've studied Jeet Kune Do and observed Chinese Kenpo. No style that I'm aware of can guarantee success in any situation. Each situation is unique unto itself.

  • every situation is different. any self defense move is dependent on so many variables ... location, where's your mind versus the situation at hand, are you able to 100% commit to you defense move in the instant you choose to move, is you opponent more committed than you ...?

  • @josephpalermo that move were you slam your fourarm into the guys elbow reminds me of Filipino Boxing

  • @tenkai82 I dont think he said it was useless I think he said that it was not always feasable. Thats true of alot of more traditional martial arts you might not have the room to do a wushu kick and all this fancy moves but each art has its weaknesses and strengths

  • @tenkai82 Chinese Kenpo is challanging. Chinese martial arts are some of the strongest.

  • @LightxKira5643 this is true, chinese martial arts are amazingly strong. and i used to do chinese kenpo, HOWEVER, chinese kenpo is NOT kung fu, nor a chinese system, ironically. real wushu/kung fu/ chinese martial arts have a completely different philosophy and body mechanic (i now study traditional kung fu - praying mantis, baji quan, tongbeiquan, longfist ) and study under top kungfu instructors, and in china. ..this chinese kenpo is merely just japanese karate with some 5 animal handstrikes

  • @tenkai82 true Chinese Kenpo base on the Mitose Doctrine is more linar techs but real american Kenpo is more street fighting

  • @tenkai82 Its weird I read an article today on a Tracy's Kenpo website that said that American kenpo has never produced a world class fighter thats really sad. It wasnt a good article about Kenpo

  • Where can I buy these dvds? I study American and Dragon kenpo, but I would like to learn chinese, shaolin and tracy kenpo as well.

  • Please contact me through my link near my photo above.

  • Pretty good vid, really informative.

  • Loved the video. Very thorough. I am currently going for my gold belt. I love this stuff. Great Job and keep it up!

  • some stuff was OK, but the rest would get you killed....

  • Good technique presented well. Professor Ike Bear, Black Dragon

  • Hmm since you apparently deleted my comment, I don't know which one of yours is a reply to me.

  • no guarantee that shows that your techniques are not time tested and proven thats why im a grappler and striker striks dont work on everybody + i know a better way of getting out of that last wrist lock and thats puple belt i feel bad for you guys

  • It's great that you have advanced knowledge and know several ways to get out of that last wrist lock!

  • It's nice when 2 attackers wait there turn to attack while you stand in the middle of them- LOL that why they had about a minute and a half of warnings for this crap!

  • youre an idiot. they slowed everything down so that it is easier to see what is happening. and you may never use half of those techniques but the point is to train you several different ways to approach a problem so when you are faced with an attack similar to that you can react near instantaneously.

  • i hate to say it, but karate and all these martial arts died with the advent of firearms

  • And when you can't readily avail yourself of a gun, then what?

  • may have been a decent video but I couldnt make it past the 1.5 minutes of warnings...I mean come on!

  • Sorry about that but required legalities. Allow yourself to go past the 1.5 minutes and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

  • you dont lock on crossing talon? u need to lock with the opposite hand first otherwise the dude will just pull away..

  • good video

im learning 80% shaolin kempo 10% ju jitsu and 10% muy thai for a lil bit of everything

this video wud be a good way to learn a bit cuz im not even on my way to startin to be a white belt. lol

    thx for the vid

  • Excuse me Sir! what's the name of the stance that I just saw at 1:37 ? thanks:)

  • good man. caus I couldn't find a good styl for me I'm training my on built on chinese kenpo basics.

  • Hellacool

  • was excellent thank you

  • I'm sorry, I got tired of reading the messages that kept appearing on the screen. They wouldn't end, so I stopped watching...the Chinese Kenpo Message. What an experience.

  • Mr Jeff O'donnell

  • exactly no guarantee ,only one way to take peoples money nice try though.

  • That's very sad. It should have said "No Guarantee these techniques will work in every situation." not the other way around.

  • very brutal!!!!

  • Its interesting how i have no idea who you are where you are from or where you've trained... and yet ive learned the same moves with the same names(except there are some variences within a couple of the moves themselves).

  • What a load of shit

  • if u ask me its far too fixed, in an actual fight you dont have time to do these moves

  • omg ''No Guarantee''

Any fight situation has no Guarantee that you'll win and ''what's the point'' when you make a comment like this?

  • Exactly! Thanks!

  • Too much legalese not enough Chinese!!!

  • very good

  • hey, great kempos/self defense techniques. VladdXIII: no guarantee means, going over the material once is a guarantee that it will not work. regular practice elevates your chance at using part of if not all of the technique to help protect yourself. if you have to cook for 10 house guests, would you feel comfortable cooking a three course meal with no experiance?

  • No Guarantee then what's the point

  • You're kidding me, right?

  • oh shut the fuck up

  • they just say that bcus they dont want to get in trouble if u trie to imitate those moves and u dont do it right even though it will work all u have to do is practice it

  • Because Chinese Kenpo is known as the second deadliest martial art, they can not say that everyone can do it properly. It also keeps them out of any legality issues. You have to cover your ass, on the street and in the court room. =)

  • There's never a guarantee you idiot.

  • Again, required legalties, because there arte, unfortunately, LOTS of "idiots" out there.

  • Very good information! Thank you.

  • Bruce Lee had a funeral stone in front of his school with the inscription "In memory of a once fluid man crammed and distorted by the classical mess".

  • I hear ya, brother. What a mess this is.
