Turning out to be the best purchase I've ever made. Has saved me multiple times from hidden cameras. Question: Is it safe to turn of K band here in WA? I noticed apart from laser all the legit warnings are Ka band. Both from cop cars and cameras.
@km1898 Yes, you can pretty much turn K-band off in the metro areas, just don't forget to turn it back on when you drive country eg Mandurah / down south etc as most HWP cars fitted with radars use K-band.
I drive with the V1 in euro mode, and K-band turned off (little "u" mode) but only because I also have a 9500ci installed (without the ZR4s) So the 9500ci is doing K-band, and Ka wide band, whilst the V1 is doing Narrow Ka-band and laser.
Thanks for explaining! I just ordered a valentine and want to learn about programming now. Now as for the Ka guard. Did you disable it because you are not expecting a lot of interference from other radar detectors? Police radar in my area is MOSTLY ka. But there are a lot of other radar detectors in my area but I doubt it will false as much as X or K band.. Would you disable the guard knowing there are a lot of Ka band radar guns in my area?
Correct, there are not as many Ka falses here, also, since the Multanova speed cameras are very low powered, I don't want to miss the alerts, hence Ka guard OFF.
Excellent Video! Thanks. Can you please explain setting number 5 in more detail? What exactly do you mean that Ka will be more responsive? You said it doesn't affect sensitivity though and that confuses me. What would you expect the reaction of the Valentine to Ka band once you changed the setting as you did in the video to "more responsive?" Thanks.
Thanks for great great how to video! FYI Newest V1 has an additional euro mode that comes up after the one you initialized in the video. same symbol but with a line above it. should it be on or off?
Australia is licensed from 34.2 to 35.2 so yes, Stalkers can be used without modification, however Kustom modify their units down from 35.5 to 35.1 and there are the QLD Decatur Genosis mk II units at 35.1 and/or 34.9
sorry, wrong question for this video, but are you able to please tell me the settings i should have for WA using the Beltronics STI-XR detector? i'd highly appreciate it!
cheers,
george.
ps. good work with all the testing and thanks for putting lots of effort to create these videos
also i had a strange thing happen a few days ago whilst travelling along leach hwy. i was driving with it set on 'autoscan' and then it started beeping furiously and stopped after around 10 seconds and it showed on the screen POP then went back to 'autoscan' once it stopped beeping.
well i took your advice and changed it to those settings, but now i'm wondering...
now after i changed the settings when i turn the unit it on it shows POP off, X off and then goes to HIGHWAY. is it not meant to show K and KA as on? also i'm getting random K band triggers even though there are no cops around whilst driving through the suburbs? and finally, even though it has VOICE ON, all i get is beeping when the K band alerts (haven't seen any multanova's yet to test it on)
I have just recieved it today in the post GRR I picked that one cause im from Ireland and I will be going back in a year and that it the best one for back there what about if I hide it?
No - You will get busted in Victoria, since the police radar detector detectors (RDDs) can pick up the Valentine One from 500m away. Best sell it and buy a stealth model like the Bel STi, Bel STi-R or Escort 9500ci
"You never went back to "7" you said it was a cool feature and you would get back to it but I don't know that you did. Could you please explain." - yes, sorry about the confusion Enabling number 7 (by selecting arrow down) allows you enable the K-band auto-muting. Rather than K-band come on at full volume, you can have it come on at a reduced (or zero) volume at first, and then jump to full volume when the signal strength gets over 50% or 75%.
Excellent video! I own one of these and have a similar reprogram except for a few things (being in the US). Really cuts down on the false alerts and makes you more aware of when there are real threats as opposed to beeping all the time.
Thanks it looks great, but will it work in any country..

why do you have to change it cant you just leave it as it is or is that programmed for America im looking at buying one. ???
whatscrakn101 1 year ago
@whatscrakn101 It's set best for US by default, If you're not in WA Rhys, then don't get a V1

thank you and do i need to attacth it to my windscreen to mike it work?? like if i have it jsut on my dashor under my car set will it do the same?
ajayjohnson2 1 year ago
No it won't work under your seat, needs a clear view of the road ahead for laser, and can't have the antenna behind any metal for radar to work.
delonixradar 1 year ago
so which are the best stealth / hidden i could go for if i live in nsw ? im new to radars any info will be appreciated :)
ajayjohnson2 1 year ago
If you want a portable radar detector; go for Escort Redline. If you want a built in model, go for the Bel STi-R plus
delonixradar 1 year ago
will these settins work in all of australia?
ajayjohnson2 1 year ago
You shouldn't use a V1 outside of WA as it is not stealth

More responsive Ka just changes the audio alert "ramp up" making it "beep faster" with the same level of Ka signal detected.
Just means it is more responsive in it's audio alerting to the (otherwise same) level of signal

That's Euro X-band.
Arrow up (default) is off
Arrow down is turned on.
BTW I am no longer recommending you have Euro mode ON if you're in Western Australia and certainly you should have Euro mode OFF for NZ.
I need to do a new video to show this :)

Isnt it though the WA is only licensed to use ka band frequencies in the region of 34.3ghz ? Or does this extend up to stalker 34.7?

Hey i cant get the program mannal and do you know whats the best way to set it up for N.Z..?
maviimoo 2 years ago
For NZ you should NOT have it in Euro mode - otherwise you will miss the stalkers (34.7GHz)

HI George, thanks for the compliment, it's nice to get some feedback every now and then.
The Bel STi doesn't have Ka-narrow band (sometimes called Euro-mode) so it's pretty straight forward with settings.
X-band off
K-band on (although many guys turn it off when driving in the city, just don't forget to turn it back on when on the highway / going down south etc)
Ka-band on
laser-on
POP-off
sws-on
Also, you'll get heaps better Multanova detection by mounting the Bel XR on its side (vertically)

POP falses a lot. It's a MPH feature, and there are no MPH radars in WA. Safe to turn POP off.
Also leave your detector in highway mode.
