Did anyone notice that this scene has multiple "line-crossings" of the 180 degree rule? The line is drawn from above, between the two actors. The medium and close ups are all on one side of the line, but the establishing shot and the wide gun-firing shots are on the other side of the line.
Hey guys, today is the last day to submit your contest entries! We will contact the winner by April 2nd, and we'll feature the winning submission on our next Behind the Short. Thanks to everyone who has submitted!
Hello, this is something awesome you make here. And I trying to go the same way.
I have a question? were can i find what programs you use? And if their is a possibility for an after effects programm to buy? Cause I went to adobe but they only sell cs5 now and I can't run that and its way to expensive. Is there a way to get cs 3 ore 4?
@BlademasterFox365 Somebody else already brought this up. You can still enter, we'll give you another box set of your choice of equal value :) so you should def. still enter the contest....
@HollywoodBubbleInc I've only got Vista Movie Maker, so I wouldn't be able to add any effects or anything XD I'll figure something out, Film making (and acting) is my life, I won't let something like this get me down! *awesomeface*
Wait wait wait.... You sent me this video because you thought it would help I guess. I already know some of the techniques, but you said for people who had no experience! I know I don't have much, but I don't have the flipping software >:(
@tab6812 thanks for the comment, and thanks for subscribing. make sure you favorite and like our video too :) we're actually finishing up the post production on the next action short titled "Femme Fatality" and we will follow that up with our next tutorial which will focus on sound design. Thanks so much!
You are a breath of fresh air in saying what you did. I thank you and wish U the very best. Openess and verification of comments keeps one in check. I thank you for your reply to my remarks and DO look forward to not just your vids, but your views of comments of same. Please stay as you are and KNOW we WILL hurt 'cha bad if you change. Once again LOL and a "God Bless" also!
I feel anyone who says a negative about your vid is a negative person. Sure, one always breaks the rules you state NEVER to break...BUT...one must KNOW the rules to be able to break them with success. I don't agree with everything you said BUT at least you guys are pointing stoogents in a THINK AHEAD format for success. Nice work and I look forward to agreeing/disagreeing in the future. Thanks and keep on or we'll hurt 'cha bad. LOL
@101AOK Thanks for that, much appreciated! We welcome all comments, good and bad :) i think they eventually make us better and help us cater better to our audience - with that being said, we also know how to tell a troll or two from the rest :) Thanks for subscribing!
what will this do exctly like if you want to do an action scene can u put muzzel flars in your video and if not do u know of anything safe and free tht does things like tht. If u do respond to this comment please explain things because im not a technachal kind of person thnx
Guys, this was a good try at teaching this stuff but I recommend gaining some more experience before trying to teach more of it. Someone starting off may find this great but to a professional producer as my self, let's just say I have a different opinion. I give you credit for trying, but the video gives me the impression that you guys are just learning this stuff your selves. Good luck in the future!
Thanks for the tutorial. You could have saved me tuition money for video editing classes if you had done this a couple years ago. :) Everything in your video was in my class. LOL!
And thanks for the footage and the contest.
However, not every video editor uses a Mac or FCP. Can you export the EDL file for those of us on a PC?
@EiKanProductions Actually, if you don't have a Mac of FCP, that's ok! The FCP project file we include is just to help organize all the footage into folders. We actually give you the raw MOV files clearly labelled so you can edit on any editor. We have had submissions from people editing on Sony Vegas for example. Good luck and thanks for the compliment, make sure to subscribe!
@EiKanProductions No, I appreciate you bringing this up because we'll make sure to let our viewers now in the future that this video is not exclusive to Final Cut users :)
I have an actor friend. I mean professional and once was successful.
He told me about the Rule of Thirds but lost me at the beginning of his explanation.
I was shot before, and I've had trouble watching shooting scenes ever since. I can do it now but not w/out getting the same sensation I had when I was first shot.
It literally felt like a gigantic hand smashed into my back and shoved me forward.
Hi guys loved what you doing here. Helping out film makers to learn the basic. Was just wondering aren't you breaking the 180 degree rule between 3.05-3.11. Correct me if i am wrong. Thanx
@sagarmahajanifilms technically, yes, but it was done on purpose, you can break the rules if you need to, as long as it doesn't confuse the audience. The most important thing is to keep it consistent on the close ups.
@cantsleepjujeje awesome! yeah, we encourage you to just give it a shot, and learn with what we have given you, it will only make you a better editor. Also, check the video responses above and see how other people have edited it! Good luck!
@metastopheles Hey, thanks for the comments, really appreciated :) The jump cuts in the end are on purpose. It's just a style of rough video loggin that you'll see a lot out there. Thanks for subscribing and glad you enjoyed the video!
@HollywoodBubbleInc Aaah cool. Yes I see a lot of jump cuts .... drives me a bit crazy actually, but you guys are pretty slick every where else, makes sense it was deliberate though. Going back to check on more of your other stuff.
there is no formula to making a good film, unless you're some hollywood nubb. this is like saying poetry has a set of rules u need to follow to make it a good poem. go to hell with this film school horse shit.
I don't how I received this, but I'm glad I did, because I learned something, and I learned I need to know more basics. If you don't want to be a drone, don't make movies, because movies are a collaborative effort, cost a lot of money, and it's not like being a musician / painter. You are far more dependent on a lot of people. Also, honestly, you're more likely to innovate in the script than the shooting in my opinion, and knowing these basics is CRITICAL. Dont act like you know too much. LEARN.
I'll like watching these tutorials, I haven't found good tutorials on cinematography, everyone skips straight to effects and more complicated things, I am holding back on posting my videos on YouTube 'cuz I want to get a good grasp of these basics and once I can make my videos top notch, and not laughable (in a bad way) THEN I'll focus on the more complicated concepts =) how'd you find me to send my your link?
@VisionaryThe Hey, good point, but I actually have to disagree with you! You have to just shoot, edit and upload your stuff no matter how bad it is, because that is really how you learn to get better. It's important for other people to give you their feedback on your stuff because they might see things you never did and it's thanks to your audience that you get better. I suggest you give editing this short a shot! And I messaged you the link because I saw you commented on a similar video!
@HollywoodBubbleInc I actually help make some videos for a youth ministry in my area that get shown to a few hundred kids, but it's really different when there isn't a comment box and most don't offer criticism beyond "that was hilarious" or "I liked that video you did"
If you like, you could check out my "delete spam" video on my channel and offer some criticism, if decide you think my videos suck and shouldn't be shown to my relatives, much less posted on YouTube then I'll post some more =P
Hey guys thanks for sending me the link to this video! I love editing films and I just found the perfect channel to use my skillz. Good video thanks for the tips and bye@! I'm entering:o
Thank you for your spam. I enjoyed it, so it kind of wasn't spam. But It was spam, because I didn't really want you to send it to me. But then I realized I would probably want you to send me link to this video if I knew it's that good. But if I knew it's that good, I would've had to know the vid. So I wouldn't need the link, which would make your message spam? AAAAH, so confused.
I could use a little refresher coarse: do you plan on explaining "over the shoulder" "the tennis match shot" ( where each shot is a match for match between to characters just going back and forth, I personally loathe this type of shot) and the transitional shot. (either fades, wipes, panning to the sky)?
@david640 Yes, we're basically going to be covering everything in the world of professional studio quality feature filmmaking by shooting a short film or action sequence once a week and breaking it down a few days after in a tutorial. We will incorporate and explain all shot types that way. I will definitely take your notes down and make sure to include them in a future piece. Thanks for subscribing! :)
