  • the REAL DEAL...take me there

  • Thanks Bob.

  • This is quality; you know the saying: Quality isn't a thing, it's an event. They're superb, the best.

  • @tptp56 Quality isn't a thing, it's an event. - never heard this before but it's gold :)

  • carroll dashiell, on bass, was my history of jazz professor when i was a student at east carolina university. he's the freakin' man and his kids are awesome too, they're all musicians and singers :)

  • priceless

  • Tight. Tight. Tight. It's refreshing to see & hear musicians playing their instruments. As opposed to today's "music", where rappers are: ignorant, crack-heads, jail-bird/thugs, and music thieves (samplers). Mr. James Brown was great! Maceo, Mr. Wesley, Pee Wee & the rest shaped what we call funk. "I break out, in a cold sweat!"

  • couldn t agree more funky drummer!!

  • Maceo is the Real deal! Him and Fred connected to the old days with Count Basie - James Brown and in todays music with Prince. You can't fake the funk.

  • Maceo...is the BOMB!!

  • this is the real music, fuck comercial radios, funk soul rythmn and blues and jazz

  • trombone is awesome!

  • It's Fred Wesley. He did an LP in the 1970s called Breaking Bread with JB but w/o Maceo.

  • I saw him about 2 weeks ago, he definitely still has it. Just about the most together and tightest groove I've ever heard. Shook the man's hand, now that's something I don't think I'll ever forget.

  • should've given the drummer some

  • No Doubt!! But Good God is this some TIGHT Playing!!!

  • The saxophone band i play in, is also called Cold Sweat just like the song=)

it was also the first song we played together

  • fantastic..

  • Yeaaahhhhhhhh!

  • what tunes of his does Bill Stewart play on?

  • Just plain Awesome!

  • <3

    ..

  • loved the bass solo

  • Get down Maceo Parker!

  • These guys still knows how to make it funky!!!! It swings like crazy here!

  • This is so nasty.

  • "Say now, Whoop!

    -What you need?

    -The Waymon Reed..."

  • is this the year 1973?

  • It's late 80's early 90's as far as I can remember :-)

    Bob

  • They did this song in '73,and called it 'Paarrty' on James Brown's Polydor distributed label,People. They called themselves Maceo and the Macks

  • Now u can see what a mastermind james brown is, putting all of this crazyness together!

  • Its funny how everyone in the audience is grooving to 16th notes at :17.. THIS is FUNK!

  • dems folks don't no nuthin' bout no 16 notes, day probly dont even no how to count dat hi

  • Classical...

  • Bravo!

  • Dang, they just keep gettin funkier!!!

  • that muthafucka melvin parker is 2 muthafuckin funky! this dude iz my idol.that's who i wanna play like!everyone talks about clyde and jabo, like they started funk drumming, but it was melvin parker who really set the pace for clyde and jabo! it's really sad that he does'nt get the credit he deserves! that man is a genius!

  • thats not rudolph isley ... it's Bruno somethin .. Tatalia? but not Isley 8:14 maceo says his name.

  • yeah, he's called bruno Speigt, but maceo calls him bruno tatallia after the character from the Godfather

  • maceo is the legend

  • JB said "Maceo bring it down but I want you to blow". All the boys, Sinclair Pickney on Baritone, Alfred 'Pee Wee" Ellis, Fred Westley, Jabbo etc. Remember when they threatened to not play if JB didn't give them a raise. JB fired them on the spot and flew in "Bootsey Collins and hes band. Maceo tried to start his own group, "Maceo and the Macks. Fred Westley attempted to start the "Kings Men"

  • JB the Business Man, fired them on the spot and flew in "Bootsey Collins. Damn!

  • bootsy is a real funky slapper =P

  • Muito bom! este trabalho é perfeito... Parabens Mr. Parker

  • MELVIN PARKER!!! Oh man

  • Yes/Lay it down Melvin Lay it down!!!!!

    too funky in Here!

  • So true! This is TOO funky!

  • Mean Bass SOLO!!

  • Take it to the bridge! Jeah. Awsome.

  • I had the honor and pleasure of studying bass under Carroll Dashiell at East Carolina University. He's an amazing player, but an even better person. This video doesn't begin to show his ability.

  • yes !

  • Who remembers that Maceo Parker played the original Cold Sweat solo and answered Mr. Brown's calls of "Maceo. blow!" on tenor sax? As a young tenor sax player back in the day who based his whole stage persona and style on Maceo Parker, I can say that I DO! It took me only a little while, though, to get used to his change to alto sax which may have eclipsed what he did on tenor. Anybody else care to offer an opinion?

  • Saw Maceo live in Toronto recently. One of the best concerts EVER (and I've seen plenty in 40+ years). As a James Brown afficionado, I absolutely remember Maceo back in the day. Not to take anything away from Mr Brown, but I think Maceo has added depth and substance since fronting this "2% jazz/98% funk" style . Alto sure seems to work well for him....and us, too.

  • @freddypknight Yeah Baby! I loved his Tenor..amazing what he does on Alto though too, but who could forget the glory days with James...Sheeeeeeeet....... They broke this mold . I feel blessed to have been there in MY prime....Good times to be alive in those days...Oh yeah!!! Great Memories!

  • BADMOFO

  • This sounds afully good live. Nice blend on the horns. You have to be tight to get that groove to come across outside the studio. Thanks for sharing this.

  • truly a great band...

  • I don't agree that Maceo's vocals are better than James Brown's like someone already mentioned, but I love that band is able to stretch out a lot more on this version. Great video.

  • DAMN!!!!!

  • Damn indeed!!!! Yes !!!!!!!!!!

  • DAYAM!

  • Yeah, DAMN!!!! pretty much says it all

  • Another kick-ass grove laid down by the master! Keep pumpin' em out dude

  • maceo is so good, his vocal is better than james brown's

  • Dashiell has been an incredible bassist since highschool. If I remember correctly, Sister Sledge (produced be LeChic) wanted him right out of highschool. I remember him playing a Bradley Jazz bass (Fender copy) early in college, he's been holding a serious groove since the late 70's.

  • I can only hope that at 60 yrs old...I have as much cool as these basasses do.

Praise the Lord for everyone that can rock it like these gentlemen!

  • That Cat playing the bass is holding that shit down! That's my father holdin' it down son!!

  • AbsolUTELY...that's it right there. I knew the funk was somewhere...

  • There's us that know ...

  • Oh man! Go Maceo, Go! Classic funk at it's best...

  • Oh, thanks SO much for re-posting this jam.
