  • you didn't floor it because i know it downshifts to 2nd at 70, but this only downshifted to 3rd..

  • @drippinblood28 Yeah, I was just cruising along! lol. I'm pretty sure it shifts at about 75. I do it at least a couple times a week.

  • @2003malibuPOWER Definitely. I wish these had ABS standard. I inherited the car and it has no ABS and is scary as fuck when you drive it like a madman. Almost got into an accident before i realized it had no ABS...

  • @drippinblood28 That's not quite the time you wanna find out if you have ABS or not.... lol. But in all honesty, you should have known ahead of time! Gotta know your vehicle!

  • @2003malibuPOWER damn suspension is also soooo soft. i have so many complaints with this car. the only positive i can think of is very decent acceleration

  • 2000 Pontiac Grand Am with 2.4 Twin Cam engine.

  • Damn! My malibu starts to shake at about 80. I'm going to try and stabilize it after a while XD

  • @iamthesargent lol. I know mine shakes a little, but nothing that feels uncomfortable. Maybe it's your tires?

  • @2003malibuPOWER I think its a combination of the tires/suspension/CV joints. I'll probably just have to run routine maintenance on it.

Did your malibu have that intake gasket problem as well?

  • @iamthesargent Yeah it did. I got that repaired under extended warranty, as with several other smaller things and some maintenance. Together it came to just over $2,000! lol. I paid like $200, including an oil change for synthetic oil.

Just last week I got my coolant flushed and swapped over to the green shit, not Dexcool. My coolant lines were apparently really dirty. The heater spits out warm air WAY sooner, and there isn't a residual smell that rarely accompanies it. Chuck Olson's sucks!

  • whats ur gas miliage with these malibus

  • @mwd92 If I drive economically on the freeway, I can get up to 30mpg. By that, I mean overall I'm driving economically, but sometimes having some fun too. I'm sure I could get a little over 30 if I tried. In the city, it's hard to measure, because I commute to work using the freeway. I'd guess low-mid 20's, like around 23-25mpg.

  • @2003malibuPOWER u got the v6

  • @mwd92 Yeah, I know I have the V6.... lol. I've had the car for over 3 years now.

  • @mwd92 The last several weeks, I've been driving around the city quite a bit more. I have quite a bit of fun in doing so (hittin' those high RPMs. lol) and I get about 21mpg. If I drove like a normal boring person, I'm sure I could get 23-24.

I'm actually a bit astonished on the freeway and city MPG. A lot of it is how much easier it is to rip through the RPMs in city traffic though.....

  • @mwd92

I have a '00 malibu with a a sri setup and a glasspack muffler. In good weather I get 25-28 mpg avg with more highway than city driving. In the winter, the mpg drops to about 23 avg

  • @2003malibuPOWER yea sorry dont mean to burst your bubble, but typicaly you lose about 15-20% through drive drain loss

  • @2003malibuPOWER i dont think you meant at the wheel because with those kind of mods i wouldnt expect it even making that at the crank

  • @tylerdford Oh. Well I don't really know. You seem to know more about that kind of stuff, so I'll take your word for it until I ever get the thing dyno'd.

  • v6 or I4

    3.1 / 2.4

  • @javien108 I have thi car and can tell you the engine sounds like the 3.1L

  • @midgetmayo You are most certainly correct, sir!

  • @javien108 It is the V6, 3.1L 3100 engine :) I said it all fancy and shit. lol.

  • @2003malibuPOWER What do you think of your car? How much milege do you have on it?

  • @midgetmayo I enjoy the car a lot. I know there are (and were, when I bought it) better deals and cars out there (I didn't know very much back then), but it's a real nice car. EVERYONE that has ridden in it, whether in the back, or shotgun, and commented on it always says that it's very comfortable. I often carpool, so I'd say that at least 5-7 people (not everyone expresses their opinion) have said that and complimented it as being "nice".

  • @midgetmayo It IS fun to drive with my CAI, exhaust, and recently, my 10" sub and 300W amp installed. Audio is great, and performance is definitely there when you need it. Also, with my new Falken tires, I'm getting low-mid 20's in city, and 29 or so highway (fuel economy). Not bad for a Chevy 4-dr family sedan that's pulling at least 180HP (dyno is like 150$ around here!! fuck that!).

  • @2003malibuPOWER wait are you saying 180 at the wheel or at the crank?

  • @tylerdford I believe stock is 170 at the crank (I don't really know what it gets at the wheels), but with the few mods I have, I would guess that I have at least 180 at the wheels.

  • @midgetmayo Oh sorry, and it has I believe like 83,000 miles on it now. had it since like 56,000 and only real issue was the intake manifold, which was covered in my extended warranty.

  • @2003malibuPOWER Maybe soon I'll post a vid of mine.. I keep telling everyone I will but never get around to it...

A family member of mine had this car and blew up the motor in it.. Now I have one.. a 2000 Malibu with only 82,000km on it... I need to fix the intake gasket.. I'm just curious how long it will last me,

  • @midgetmayo Haha... yeah, you did say that what?.... half a year ago? lol.

If you replace the intake gasket, I suggest checking out MP Racing. They have an intake gasket kit for $75. Comes with a buncha stuff. I can't say for certain, but I believe the intake gasket would never fail again if you installed the one on their site. I bought their CAI. It's awesome!!

Search intake gasket on their website. Can't miss it.

  • @2003malibuPOWER Alright, thank you. I'll look into that.

  • @2003malibuPOWER Thank you for the kind word on that site eh. The gaskets is an identicle price to my local dealership + shipping.. But there are some other neat little things on there that kinda grabbed my attention.

  • @javien108 lol, not a chance a 2.4L american car could get over 90MPH with no huge mods unless it was going down a hill. just sayin'

  • @Xellos357 Quad-4 Chevy Beretta had a 2.2l 180HP engine or something. Hella performance for like 1992, but very unreliable engine... lol

  • @2003malibuPOWER now that's just weird. how... how does it do that and why? 2.2L is 110HP and 2.3L is 180? whatever haha

  • @Xellos357 I don't remember the specifics and I'm not educated enough on the technicalities, but from what I remember, there are 24 or 32 valves in the quad-4, and only like 12 or 16 in the lower performance (think economy) engines. I haven't looked into it, but I believe it's the same with newer Ford engines. Considering the Mustang, the new V6 has I think 24 or 32 valves, and I'm certain the older-shitty ass V6 had like 16 valves. I'm pretty sure that's where the foreign performance comes from

  • @2003malibuPOWER The Quad 4 evolved into the 2.4L Twin Cam engine. They both have 16 valves. The only difference is the heads on one is better than the other, and the bottom end on one is better than the other... if you took the two and put them together, you'd have a great engine lmao

The 2.2 from the 90's is completely unrelated, and is pretty much rubbish.

  • @Xellos357 take a hot minute lol

  • @Xellos357 Owww then you've never been in my beast.

  • @blackkat7073 and what's your beast? :)

  • @Xellos357 I don't know if he clicked the respond button or not, but in case he didn't, he said "2000 Pontiac Grand Am with 2.4 Twin Cam engine."

  • Malibus are awesome cars!

  • pretty decent for a malibu
