@anywherebuthere09 it's not always easy to work with dogs. The video just showed the easy parts. With the prisoners working with them they learn responsibility and compassion for other living creatures. They need that. They are then more likely to do good things if they get out. You should try working with dogs yourself sometime. Not always as easy as it looks.
I'd much rather these convicts pick up trash, clear brush, or do manual labor, rather than cuddling puppies. This is way too passive & too easy for them.....
Do you not think that by showing kindness and gentleness to animals, that won't transfer into their treatment of humans? Shame on you. There but for the grace of God, go you or me, or anyone else.
These ones are the convicts with lesser charges. And it seems to be working for both the dogs and those convicts involved. Who can it hurt if they are operating the shelter and the dogs are being treated kindly? Although, I did volunteer to plant some trees before and the convicts there were folding metal wires and standing around talking while we were the ones digging in the ground and doing the hard work. It sucked.
@AnywhereButHere09 don't you think picking up trash is more passive than interacting with a dog, that very much so needs some love? How many of us have the time to go to the shelter and cuddle these dogs? Don't you think one can learn more from doing a nice job than a nasty one? Why is it to you easy to interact with a dog and cleaning brush is difficult? Are people born plain evil or do they mirror what they have seen around them? I wish other prisons could try that too, seems a great idea
