  • When using the sink hose guides what what type and size of hoses and pipes do you use. What size should the holes be drilled to. I just bought the sink hose guides and don't know where to go next.

  • all go brother but out let pipe has to be double the size as or it will over floor or eventually forced open the lid .

  • Nice job on the filter, I have a couple of things for the people leaving comments.

    1. I would make the exit hole larger than the entrance by at least 1/2 an inch to make sure you maintain good flow and not pressure up your system.

    2. Water rising is better for filtration than pouring from the top, pouring from the top will break up and force what your trying to filter out down into your system causing it to be more of a sifter instead of a filter.

  • I followed your video and used the same items just for a test, what I found out is if you have even a small pump that is bringing water inside the container the water that is running out is very likely to not to equal the water coming in therefore what you have is that the container will flood your area. If you have additional instructions on pump sizes it could be helpful to others.

  • Actually, if you have enough flow, this is kinda how a good waterfall filter is done but they skip the top and have a spillway instead. Provided there is plenty of aeration when the water leaves the bio-filter, I've never used an air stone in a waterfall filter.

  • The upwelling bio-filter is actually a good design since if you expect the water to fall into the top and flow down to the bottom to aerated the water you may run into over flows from the media clogging while the upwelling filter will keep the issue of clogging from causing an issue.

    However, there is no need to screw the top on. As long as the plumbing is big enough to handle the flow out the top, the water shouldn't be able to overflow up to the lid and go all over.

  • Save yourself the money on the air pump...reverse your lines. have the water drop in from the top, the dropping of the water will add all the oxygen you need. The media on top will disperse the water down through the bio material, and the water will drain out the bottom. The media does not need to be submerged in water, but just moist. The water dropping on the media is more than enough to get the bacteria needed to grow. No real need to screw the top on, that just makes it more of a pain.
