  • FLAMING PIE IS A REALLY GREAT AND UNAPPRECIATED ALBUM, i think. along with FLOWERS IN THE DIRT.

  • The first time I ever heard this song on his Flaming Pie Album, I fell in love with this song of his right away.

  • talent, heart, and true modesty..

  • macca has a big big heart

  • I secretly hope that when Paul showed Ringo this song, they cried & reminisced about Maureen.

  • rip Mo

  • wasnt this written for ringo's ex wife death?

  • @Rdog4501 yes, this was written for Maureen Starkey - Ringo's first wife who still loved Ringo when she died of cancer they were still friends in a way

  • @QueenBeatlesWings - Ringo was at her bedside when she died so they must have still been close. She was with him when it all started and all through the Beatles. She was also from humble stock in Liverpool so I am sure she shared things in his life that no one else could understand or share.

  • the quintessential song writer, standing O!

  • Beautiful and transends time.

  • This song is beautifull and full of compassion that shows Pauls loving and kind soul.

  • blondie babs--barb---my fervant prayers for janet

  • Dans ce compositeur et interprète ,il y a quelque chose de pur et authentique ... quel plaisir de l'écouter !

  • The Maureen 's song...lovley

  • this is beautiful and I love your music Paul God bless you!

  • Paul McCartney is the best man ever

  • paul is truly one of the best composers in the world

  • beautiful...

  • amo esta csncion!!

  • This is one of the best songs on Flaming Pie. My number one favorite track on that album is Somedays. This comes in at second. God bless Sir Paul!

  • I have played this song since I bought the Album ,Way back in the 80's? It's a Paul 'pick me uppa'.Reminds me Chicago my burb, of which my track's name was Willow Wood! My Grandmother & I would play with my horse Missy on her farm..under the Willow tree! I have played this song every time I feel 'weak' ever since! It's so inspiring , true words! I now play 4 my daughter! Paul is TIMELESS with his lyrics! & We all have these sorts of story's..Thank-U 4 Paul's words in the beginning! NICE ;)

  • a lovely and heartfelt tribute to Ringo's first wife Maureen who died so young. thank you so much for posting this!

  • When Ringo's former wife Maureen died,Ringo was devastated by her death, so McCartney wrote the song "Little Willow", which appears on his 1997 album Flaming Pie, in her memory, and he dedicated it to her children.

  • My daughter Gwen was born to this song 11 years ago today. It fits her perfectly. The third of three kids. She is strong and resilient. Funny, sweet, strong and very loved.

  • this is my song for my grandma. it just fits. sad, but nice...

  • My daughters name is Willow and this is her song she loves me to play it for her she says thats me im little Willow. I love this song.

  • wasn't it mo starkey that died?

  • @walshfan2470 yes, Maureen , RIngo's 1st former wife died and Paul wrote this for Ringo and his kids to help with the grief of the loss its on the Flaming Pie 1977 album

  • Mo. <33

  • This song still chokes me up. In May we got a phone call from my aunt. My grandmother was dying and we needed to come see her one last time. I was in such pain at that time, and I didn't even realize it. It was shock more than anything. In our mad rush to leave, I made time to put this song on my iPod, and listening to it for the next week or so. No other song would do. As soon as she saw my Dad, Grandma passed away. This song soothes me and I feel cradled in its gentleness.

  • hey this is as good as his best. must be wierd to be paul. his best work is so good that i goes down w the best music of all time. however you can count on him to never know garbadge from brilliance. he has broken my heart so many times w bullshit. yet when this guy hits it? the most beautiful music of all time. we should recognize that we live in a time that allows us to hear and witness a genious that will stand the test of time

  • @harck1 I often wonder what Paul would have accomplished if he had been born into the same circumstances as the great classical composers, such as Mozart and Beethoven, and had proper grounding in musical composition and notation. I think that he might have been their equal. Certainly, his gift for melody is as great as the best of them. Regardless,, we are indeed fortunate to have him in our midst writing the kind of music that he does.

  • @Allareone2

True, but if he had been trained like Mozart and Beethoven and written like them, I probably wouldn't like his music as much!

  • @breakingfree90

I understand, but I love Beatles, Mozart, Beethoven and especially Mahler. I also love Miles Davis and John Coltrane. We are fortunate to live in an era when it is possible to hear and enjoy music from all eras and all cultures.

Regarding Paul's musical gifts, it is fun to speculate on what he might have accomplished had he been born into different circumstances. Possibly, it would have been much less or possibly much more.

  • @Allareone2 For sure! Personally, I'm just not a big fan of classical music, but the composers (and performers) are/were extremely talented and well-trained musicians. And John Coltrane and Miles Davis are the stuff! I'm just saying that I probably like Paul McCartney as a pop/rock artist rather than classical :) And I still want to know how it's even possible for him to write so much music without even being able to read/write actual musical notation.

  • @breakingfree90 how he writes music without being able to read/write music notation is he remembers how to play stuff or plays it to a friend while the friend does the writing- like his classical music piece he worked with a music professor at a university in England- there's a BBC documentary abouut the making of Ecce Cor Meum- is classical music piece- which explains alot

  • @QueenBeatlesWings actually I do remember hearing him say that in an interview. it just seems crazy!

  • @breakingfree90 yeah- it is crazy that a musician doesnt read/write music- but I guess that adds to the awe you experience at hearing something really good

  • can´t find words at size.............Macca rulesss

  • Paul is truly a gift.Beautiful music and an open heart.God bless him and may He occasionally give him a kick in his talented arse.

  • @gipperbanana haha yes, back in the 90's one kick in the arse (that he does indeed need from time to time) was collaborating with the remaining ex-Beatles on a couple of John's songs. He did seem inspired, and Flaming Pie has some of his best stuff.

  • @gipperbanana Isn't that the truth? McCartney has so much talent, but now and then he needs that kicks. Not only the event he's talking about, but I think he was inspired by having gotten together with his former bandmates previously to work on a couple of John's demos, the result being two new "Beatles" songs.

Those tracks are NOT truly by The Beatles - but the work seemed to spark Paul's creative inspiration, and he then recorded the fine album Flaming Pie, which includes this classic.

  • I just love paul mccartney ! :)

  • I have to say that Flaming Pie, and this song in particular is the

last best thing Macca has done for so ling now. I'm a huge fan but I have to say that beyound this album , for me it has all been a bit of a let down. This was a phenomenal album though.

  • Hi have you heard the fireman, their song "hear the thunder" or whatever its called is brilliant

  • Yeah you mean.." Sing the Changes", it is a good song

though not mad on the rest of it.Its like the song Dance Tonight..brilliant, great riff..but the album to my ears was just awful. Macca just seems a bit sporadic these days .

  • what! I love driving Rain! And Chaos and Creation! the two albums after this!

  • As i said Airocks, Its just what I think, music is a personal thing

and if you like those albums, then great. It would be a dull world if we all liked the same stuff. No disrespect to Paul, you know, I love the guy.

  • @wildenfree I also love "Flaming Pie," but I would say that "Chaos and Creation In the Backyard" is by far Paul's best recent work. Many of its songs are at a high Beatles level.

  • wonderful song thanks paul....

  • Beautiful !

  • man what a great one

  • I love this song :) This inspired my username.

  • God Keep thee in his care...June Kristine...Philip Clyde...Jack & Sadie...Thanks to "Our Kid" Sir James Paul...Good ya Held on to the Mood and chose to give...

  • RIP Maureen

  • No doubt Sir Paul.

You are a gift of God to Humankind!!!

  • hermoso

  • One of his best solos songs.

  • I love this song, always think of my brothers girlfreind when i play this. My brother died in a car crash a couple of years ago.

  • typical of Paul "Espacially for the kids" =)

He is a great father and family man =)

  • I brought flaming pie only recently and Im totally knocked out by it. Great album. this one of many highlights.

  • I agree. I think some of the songs have Beatles quality. Calico Skies, Little Willow, Young Boy, Someday and Heaven On A Sunday Paul could as might as well been come up with in the 60s.

  • Paul is a genius. I simply love this song, I adore it.

  • During the make of Flaming Pie, not only was Linda going through her Cancer battle, but also loss of Maureen (Ringo's ex). This had to have been a hard time for Paul when he wrote the album and this song. Little Willow was a touching and beautiful tribute to Maureen, Ringo and his kids.

  • Paul wrote this about Ringo's ex wife Maureen who lost her battle with Leukemia in 1994.

  • Let's not forget that much of the great talent of Macca exists because of his unearthly connections. He mentioned as such in a TV interview a few years ago. He also gives clues to this in some of his songs. Listen more carefully to certain lyrics. Example: Red Rose Speedway. Get on the Right Thing... and there's much more... Read the lyrics as well as listening to them.

  • Cette chanson est pure et authentique comme son créateur ;Paul McCartney .

  • Rumor has it Palin is very upset about this song exploiting her daughter.

  • WTF??!!

  • hehe my name is willow

  • very lovley song!!! xxxx

  • GENIUS

  • I always think of my adopted sister when I hear this one. She was like a little willow too.

  • I'm sure it means a lot to paul now that linda's gone...

  • The song was written for Maureen Starkey.

  • actually, it was written for ringo's first wife. it was included on a tribute CD for princess diana.

  • ok I need a tissue right now. I Love this song.

  • This song is just amazing. Makes me cry. So touching and relaxing, and I see kind of a message in it. For me, anyway.

  • This guy is just...ridiculous. People heap praise on him all the time and any time he goes to an awards show he gets so much adulation, and yet it's still not enough. And he deserves that much more for the fact that people counted him out for years and called him irrelevant.

This song is interesting because it's one of his "youngest" vocals as an older man. When he was younger his voice was sweeter and not as deep, and I think he channeled that purposely here.

  • Thank you so much...lovely...very heart felt, wonderful video and I do cry for anyone who loses a loved one(this song could have been for linda!)

  • paul is big

    i love

    paul the king of world

  • Was this for Ringo's first wife???

  • yes it was.

  • LUV MACCA: ))

  • It's an exquisite song with fantastic chord changes. Only Paul could have written it.

  • Paul you are the BEST!!!LOVE YOU FOREVER!!!<33

  • yes indeed, rip maureen, you are missed

  • Me to! it´s amazing

  • This song makes me cry.

  • R.I.P. Maureen :(

  • this song is for my little brothers girl, he passed in a car crash on 9,9.07

  • how sad :(

  • ofcourse they were genius together, but Paul's solo songs.... they're beautiful! There's so much feeling in them...

  • their solo albums will never be good as what they did as the beatles but by god, paul writes some of the most beautiful songs on his own, so does john.....oh and george....and ringo

  • This song brings tears every time I hear it....I lost several loved ones around the time of this song...and Linda of course.

    thank you for posting,

    Ram on,

    Joe.

  • this is one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard.

what can i say, paul's a genius. always has been, always will be. x

  • this such a beautiful song that both me and my dad want it played at our funerals!! morbid.. but hey x

  • Oh, how lovely. This willow could easily make one weep ...

Greeting to everyone from Jarrahnut in beautiful Western Australia.

  • Beautiful!!!!!!!

    Rock On

    Sequin

  • Listen to the last song the Beatles played together in public (roof of Apple, winter of 69, captured on the "Let It Be" album) and hear Paul say...."thanks, Mo'" to Maureen's applause at the end of The Beatles set....she must have been a cool lady...

  • lol, I thought Paul said "Don't smoke" XD oops.

  • good tune

  • a simple and lovely song, how does he do it?

  • Does anyone know the chords for this song?I can't find any tablature,-_-".

  • beautiful *-*

  • my name is willow 2!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this song sooo much!! And I love Paul :)!!

  • my name is willow

  • Oh it was for Maureen :o) Ahhhhh I see. I kinda thought it was for Princess Di cause it's on the Diana tribute album and it was in 97 and all that.

  • I danced with my dad to this song at my wedding. We love Paul.

  • is he related 2 jesse mcartny?

  • Ha ha. No, he's not. Never.

  • I love you Paul!!!

  • Il chante vraiment comme un Dieu!!!!Je n'ai pas trouvé mieux que lui(bon à part quelques uns qui lui arrivent à la cheville,^^).

  • Très Bien! :)

  • Très Bien! :)

  • This song is the bomb.

The guitar chords sound like the peal of church bells.

  • where can i find this song i have a little willow and i would love to get her this song?

  • the 'flaming pie' album

  • i heard this was written for ringo, after maureen died, paul just didn't want to make it public

  • Paul made a mistake when Heather comes to mind! Well Linda will slap him when he goes to heaven lol

  • wow, my little bro died in september and now my Dad has given up on life#

  • The story he tells about how he took inspiration for this song proves, once again, that our Paul is a special person.I won't ever belive Heather Mills sayin Paul was violent to her.I just listen to this sweet melody and I start to dream.

  • I am watching Ringo on Jonathen Ross as this song plays. Lost my brother in September and now my Dad is not well.Music helps me through bad times:)

  • From personal experience, a comfort in bereavement. A beautiful melody with fine lyrics. From one of his best solo albums, 1997's Flaming Pie, the album title taken from John Lennon's story of how they named their band 'The Beatles'.

  • Totally agree with you Broomybank

  • A beautiful song...one of McCartney's finest moments...

  • love it

    rock and roll

  • Beautiful song; I seem to recall watching another video for this song, it featured a garden and little kids ... does anyone know what I'm talking about ???

  • Yes I know the video you are talking about.

  • Maureen may have been a fiesty spirit. The "Little Willow" is her family, telling them to hold on tight, it's to comfort them after her death

  • paul mccartney is truly an earth angel :):):) this totally proves this!!!

what an amazing song & video here...thank you & always dream~~~dare~~~dive, john :):):)

  • Another in a long, long, long line of masterpieces from Paul.

  • gorgeous. Ringo was right by Maureen's side when she died. Both men are wonderful.

  • Loved this song for ages but since the loss of my brother it means so much more.

  • maureen, we all miss and love, thanks SIR PAUL for sharing & being so caring

  • It's so sad that he wrote a song for Maureen when she died but a year later he lost his Linda... :( What a sweet song this is.

Rest in peace Linda and Maureen.

  • Wow, what a great song from Flaming Pie.

  • Its a little Linda and a little Maureen for anyone that knows Paul...

    with love

  • Why doesn't he mention the 'friend' he's talking about. Just say it's about my friend Ringo's wife Maureen.

  • Privacy more for the kids rather than Ringo, I think. It's respectful.

  • awesome, thats my name

  • i didn't know this was for Maureen- unless it was in the CD insert and I didn't realize it :/ i love this song though. i agree haricougar- he'll always been in his early 20's to me as well. he's so funny, and humble, but also knows when to be private... luv him

  • Beautiful song Paulie, says so much. xxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • I always thought it was an odd title: "Little Willow", considering Maureen Starr was such a fiesty spirit.

  • wonderful song. I thought it was about linda not giving in to cancer - bend little willow, no one is out to break your heart, it only seems that way. It always did and always will move me. A very sad song though

  • It was about the death of Maureen- Ringo's ex-wife that he still loved very much. :[

  • beautiful song

  • great song
