Thumbs up if you want to become a game designer or anyone in the game industry... Games are so cool just playing them so imagine making them :3 Best of luck to anyone who wants to pursue a career like this because I know that I DO... :)
Hello, I H0PE someone helps me! My Dream is to become a Game Designer but not ( Maybe) a Progammer ( Even though you will learn in College). Do I REALLY need to know Alot and Understanding of Math or do I have to understand the Basics and What I Learnd from College to become a GameDesginer, because the course classes I've seen, there are no math classes at all. I've seen different kinds of jobs(Artist,Animator,GameDesigner,Progammer) why is there list? I Thought GameDesigner meant all that? Ty
@VORTEXSHINOBI dont give up my friend! Im really passionate about videogames and want to join the game industry.. well you may never know until you try right?
i have all of that but i found out what he said about learning abput the history of the world and i SUCK at history but ima make it in the game design business
For employers, this is a great depiction of what's required to hire an employee. Marc Mencher does an excellent job describing the skills and experiences that are required for this profession. Kudos!
@angelokool1 Well actually I'm Canadian, I guess I was being a bit stupid at the time, yeah, geography, obviously kind of relates to MW2, because the stages they go to are in other countries and geography gives them scoops on what it is like and what it looks like there, history, assassin's creed, the med evil times I believe, gotta make it realistic. I don't think I took GCSE yet since I'm only 15 and you get it at 16, that's why I didn't know it, but I could have at least looked it up. :P
Dont think that just because you play games all day and dont have good grades in school that you can become a game designer. You must be extremely fluent with many program languages such as c++ and others.
@DropShotsLOL Dude, you sound very much like you know exactly what's going on! Can you tell me what other things I may need to learn, I don't even understand what a program language is, can you at least give me scoops on what languages these are so I can get a head start with them? That would be really thankful!
What you need to be a game designer is you need to love games of course. But there are differen't paths you can take to become one. The first step is you can go to a art college to take game design to be one it's the more easier path. The other path is you can start out as a game tester for a few years and advance into a game designer most designers started off as testers. Although you still need to have good art and writing skills you need to know about programing too.
@futureanimatior Hey, if you know anything about these programs, can you tell me about them? Unless I can just see them in college or something, but if so, can you tell me please?
while i do agree that any game designer should play games to learn how to design games, i hear all too often that you need to play games ALL THE TIME... this, is BS. if you play every game, all the time, you will quickly become brainwashed and just regurgitate other people's work and call it your own. play games to learn how to design them yourself, don't play them to "get ideas"
@Xstatic112 No. You are conjuring this knowledge based on your experience. I have come up with many game ideas by playing other games. It would be bs if you used the same story line and game mechanics but that's not what they are saying. You need to think about things before you say them.
Playing games teaches you a lot of things about the gaming industry. How a game with a solid concept was ruined by a few fatal flaws, understanding what makes a game fun. You learn from other designer's mistakes and also get a grip on what is considered original in the industry and what has already been done thousand of times. I don't think its critical, but it's certainly a huge bonus to have played/play a lot of games.
@ThaoSaitau depends... if it's a small project like a platformer in Python/Pygame one person can do it by themselves, something like an RPG in C++ will take probably 3 or 4 people, a full 3D retail game with cutscenes etc... will take teams anywhere from 10 to 25 people over the course of a couple of years

@angelokool1 What does GCSE stand for? And may I ask why psychology helps you get into the game industry, if thats what you meant.

So when he said you have to master the English language does that mean you have to make A++ on all you're English classes during high school?
Please somebody answer, without joking around.
