Asking why it's still called a theory and not a fact is a silly question too. The scientific word "theory" means a unifying explanation for why known facts happen. It's the highest scientific status (e.g. theory of gravity, germ theory). It's not the same as the everyday definition of the word (i.e. "guess").

Molecular biology and DNA sequencing are more than enough to prove that all life today evolved very slowly over hundreds of millions of years from simpler organisms. If you really want to learn more, read "Why Evolution is True" by Coyne or "The Greatest Show on Earth" by Dawkins, as these are both fantastic books that show you the evidence for evolution.
