when you talk about Napoleon, you are right. Another thing people say is that he was 5'2", but interestingly enough, the French had different measurement system after their revolution, and so today, Napoleon was about 5'8", a pretty tall size for men in that day. Just a fun history fact.
half part of belgium is french they moved in here in the middle ages thats when there started a war between Flanders and the french ,flanders won the first war with a great historical battle at Kortrijk they conquered belgium but in the second war the french conquered the south of belgium now know as Waloon ( srry for bad english i am flemisch myself;p
Brussels/Brussel/Bruxelles is the capital of Belgium, but the question is, for how long wil it stay that way:P Famous for manneken pis, a very tiny statue of a peeing boy
Also, Napoleon was often seen in the company of his Imperial Guard, and they were abnormally tall for the time. There were height requirements to enter that unit, and Napoleon was of course shorter than all of them. Very often, then, he would be noticeably the shortest person in the area.
I'm really glad you pointed out that tired old myth about Napoleon being short; you'd think after all this time, that one would finally have faded away after being corrected tens of thousands of times.
Hiarwatha was nie to me, until he called my army small,
i said i would never forget it,
and i sure didn't,
he sent his military in...they had weapons, alls i haev were swordsmen.... Yeah......took over 2 of my cities, and when i tried to leave the last city, they killed the unit, but they wouldn't move into the last city D:<
I'd just like to say you sold to me this game. You give a lot of energy during your commentaries and overall it's just entertaining to listen to you and watch your videos.
You are the most interesting commentator I have ever listened to. You are very intelligent unlike many other commentators on youtube and I respect your love for the connection between history and video games. I myself am an avid history geek and love when I can relate real-world knowledge to video games. Keep up the great work and have a great time playing Civ 5.
Your should First when you start the game try to produce as much food as you can, by the end of the classical era focus on your gold production and culture production (or millitary units if you want a millitary victory) Towards the industral era start working on your weak points and from there you make up what you would like to do :3
Napoleon was 5 feet 6 1/2 inches tall slightly shorter than average height for the time. At least two inches shorter than the average soldiers height, and three inches shorter than the average height of the dutch at the time. He was not a tall man...but he did have an enormous army.
Ragusa is near/between Montenegro/Albania along the coast, if you enjoy learning history from games I highly suggest playing Europa Universalis 2 (specifically the stand alone mod For The Glory, you can get it for like 10 or 15 bucks) it has massive numbers of historical events, you will learn more than any history class. Europa Universalis 3 is good too, but the events aren't as rigid therefore less history lessons.
@prophetxyrael I believe I own this game, but I think that my attempts to play it didn't work out at the time. Maybe I'd enjoy it more these days, especially in an LP format. We'll see.
@quill18 Actually-funny enough-I was just about to put the third part of the series in your sight, giving you an idea for a Let's Play. Now while both games are great - both gameplay and history depth wisely-I think that EU III is slightly more accurate as far as geography goes. And it also has improved, smoother - and generally better -gameplay. At least in my opinion. Actually me being strategy cook myself-I learned my EU map this way. And hey, thanks for the Awesome work man. Keep it up.
@quill18 also @asson, EU3 is more graphically appealing and more geographically correct, however it lacks the rigid historical events that are what teaches you history through the game (EU3 allows your to activate events you meet the requirement for, which is better for gameplay but FAR less historically accurate) The problem most players have with For the Glory is that the events are too rigid, and don't allow historically insignificant nations to become really significant. Made me learn tho!
@prophetxyrael It's true to say it's near but it's not really between Montenegro and Albania. Ragusa is a Sicilian city and as that part of modern day Italy.
@rasmuslm The Republic of Ragusa existed on the far south coast of Dalmatia and has since been renamed Dubrovnik (wiki) It was once an important maritime republic, along with Pisa, Venice, Genoa, and another random one in Amalfi. This is the Ragusa referred to ingame, and not the Sicilian city. Sorta like how there is a Los Angeles in the USA, but the original Los Angeles is maybe a few kilometers from Assissi in Italy.
@prophetxyrael Ohh yeah I see. Your probably right since the Italian Ragusa never been a state in itself and therefore should be called Sicily, Val di Noto or something along those lines if it was the case.
They do have some pretty amazing buildings and has been a culturally rich place...but I guess that does count for anything :P
Great lets play giving me lots of tips for playing the game next time i give it a go, i was doing so well with England until the Germans started a massive war i couldn't win so they took 3 of my cities plus a lot of my gold for a peace treaty, don't make to many pacts of secrecy it seems to piss people of or you get dragged into a war.
@Baseguy100 You could try going to a store that sells games and you can trade little slips of paper and they will download it to a small box that you take home with you.
@JamesKirby1996 Indeed -- the winter solstice (Dec 20/21st) is when we do our gift exchange with my wife and her family. Avoids conflicts AND means earlier gifts. Hurrah!
not entirely true, napoleon was in fact a very short man, but your right about him being very sociable with his army, thats why they loved him and were inspired to march on all the way to moscow
@CrazyMetalKidd 5'2" in ancient French units, which translates to approximately 5'7" in conventional imperial units -- which at the time was average or better. The confusion between French and English units is actually where the confusion about his height began.
Ragusa, is today's Dubrovnik. In Croatia. Famous fortress that dates from the 12th century. Held by the venetians for some centuries, Marco Polo was supposed to come either from Sarajevo or Ragusa, both venetian controlled at that time.
It seems to me, in the case of buying tiles, that it costs twice as much to buy rough terrain tiles and tiles across a river. Take some of the hexagons northwest of Babylon at 5:44 for example. The tile one hexagon north-west of your horses costs 100 gold, because it is across the river from where your current culture is. Now, the hexagon south-west of the hexagon we just discussed also appears to be across a river, but it's actually adjacent to a tile you own on the same side of the river.

@quill18 Yes there is, but it's probably not gonna happen. Belgium is like an ugly pair of siamese twins that wants nothing more than to be seperate, but unfortunately they're connected at the heart and the operation to divorce them would kill one of them and leave the other one handicapped. This is coming from a Belgian BTW.
@quill18 well not really lol they live with it I guess :) got a king and stuff and ofcourse brussels is the capital of the EU (I thought don't rage on me if I'm wrong) but its indeed a bit awkward that they have 2 different languages and two different 'halfs' in the country. I do not believe their is any real hostility between the halfs so I guess they can just live this way ^^
@Knightbruder I'm sorry but your dumb, EU stands for European Union or i guess you could have meant Europe either way your stupid, Europe is not one country Europe is a continent made up of many countries including Belgium, France, The United Kingdom, Germany and many more the EU is much like the UN but it only includes countries within the continent of Europe, in Europe there are many languages, my apologies if I've completely misunderstood your comment.

@manic221 Russia is part of Asia. they are Asians. dont say they arnt becouse the definition of an Asian is they come from Asia and Russians come from Asia so therefore Asians.
@Sarahlyonz HAHA wow you really are stupid do you know where Russia is? go get an atlas... no seriously go i can wait. i'll give you a clue it's the biggest land mass in the world plus, but the main point of this is i did a quick google search and guess what i found? Russia is part of the EU, that's all goodbye.
@manic221 well technically speaking Prussia is part of Europe and Asia. but if you where to say where it is you wouldn't say Europe you would say north east Asia. soo they Asians.

Maybe you get minus points for not knowing Brussels isn't in France, but it's evened out by not calling the Iroquois "ear-uh-coys".

@laxdude1616 French is my native tongue. "ee-roh-kwa' is the closet phonetic spelling that I can come up with for the French pronunciation.
