There was also proof they had wmd's because they used on the Kurds. And there was no real evidence uncovered in the lead up to the war and nothing found in the six years after the invasion that proved the existence that there was an active WMD program going on in 2002-2003.

The reason the senate voted to invade Iraq, along with the support of a number of other countries, was because the British Intelligence found out Saddam was buying uranium from someone in Africa. There was also proof they had wmd's because they used on the Kurds. Saddam had threatened the US before and they felt that, after 9/11, it would be best to take him out BEFORE he used anything on the US. That is why we went to Iraq.

And, although they did not find WMD's per se, they DID find 5000 pounds of yellow cake along with warheads. What happens when you put those together? They also found chemical and biological agents. Add those to the warheads they found and you have a WMD.

Basically they moved stuff from one place to another for the military. The fuel they were moving wasn't theirs. Only the trucks.

FYI; that yellow cake was NOT weapons grade. It was not "found", the IAEA knew where it was all along. Everyone knew. It was 500+ TONS of it.
But did that make them a threat? They had no means to deliver it, or enrich it.
Those chemical weapons they found were leftover from when we (Ronald Reagan) gave them to him almost 30! years ago. You really think they still work? If Saddam had any intention to use them on us, why didn't he use them when we invaded? We were in Kuwait for months before.

It would be OK because he was in the act of doing those atrocities. We let him off the hook for over 20 years, and then we decide to invade in 2003 based on over-hyped "evidence". To date, non of the reasons used by Bush, Dick, or (unfortunately) Powell, have materialized. Yellowcake from Niger, aluminum tubes, mobile chemical labs, tons of nuclear material, the technology to deliver them, etc.
Non of it has turned up yet. Not to mention that they forgot all about bin Laden.

The sanctions were futile and useless and complete counterproductive.
In 1991 the US was in a military coalition with Arab nations. They supported removing Iraqi forces from Kuwait but the Arabs would not support the overthrow of Saddam. That is why the US did not go all the way to Baghdad.
The vast majority of the dead during the war and occupation were killed by Al-Qaeda, Shia and Sunni insurgents and by criminal mafias.
Today US forces are leaving a free Iraq.

Posse Comitatus deals with using the military in a law enforcement capacity. Since the ATF (involved in Waco), is not military but a law enforcement agency that does not apply in this case. Disregard of course that those in Waco were putting up armed resistance wounding several federal officers. Lets shelf the partisanship it aint about Dems or Reps its right and wrong.
