  • @twist2g22 WERD!!!!!!>THIS record is so sublime in its simplicity....it reaches the heart of the truly conscience individuals like @swoon57

  • @luckygoodcat Tru indeed

  • I have loved GSH for so many years I cannot remember. As a white middle class guy from London he has made me very much aware of the ' black struggle. the white responsibility and the fact that colours has no place in the selection of love, hate and harmony. peace and harmony to my fellow believers. ( I love Victor Browns vocals on this track )

  • I was shocked when I heard Gil Scot Heron was going to perform in Israel ! After the Boycott Israel campaign asked him not to he cancelled his concert in Tel Aviv. Many other rock stars like Santana,Paul Macartney also cancelled their concerts in israel.

  • One of the greatest and deepest songs I ever heard ... 3 people are stupid ...

  • @JazzyFunkaHolic nah kid, 3 people don't have soul. Or an understanding as to why the black man is what he is. "He who has called us bitter has bitten us"... Boutimelo

  • @TheDingo16 well said kat!!!

  • I could wake up to this song every day.

  • Gil scott one of the most gifted and true artists of our times period

  • Baring Witness

  • This song makes you think, about your life and whats going on in it. It takes my breath away and leave me in deep thoughts.

  • another gil scott classic nough said.... he's amazing..........

  • @Centaursdream A Toast to the People

  • jadefire1000 This music just goes right to the soul, it feeds you.

  • We Americans have become a bunch of pussys and this country has gone soft. We are to fucking influence by media and retarded ads. Kids need to go outside and play again. Fight there friends and fuck in cars again... WTF! Sad, to see what we have become.

    Victor C. Miami, Fla.

  • @speeches

    parents neglect their kids

    thats the problem

broken families are too normal these days

  • it just piss me off artist like this doesn't get the exposure

  • Angle dust saved my life

  • I feel sorry fo rthe people who've never experienced his music. Luckily I had parents who recognized amazing music and artists :)

  • stunning.

  • I bet 90% of the the viewers/listeners, don't have a clue of the e"ERA"

  • @asrealascanbe What's the e"Era"

  • So damn beautyful,...getting teardrops in my eyes & goosebumps !!!-Love it!!!

  • damn near cried the first time I heard this track. This man is a legend truly. I hope I get to hear this man live one day. Soulja to the fullest!

  • @AssassinateCantrell I saw Gil Scott Heron live here in Montclair NJ some 28 yrs ago ..what a show. He sounds better live but the recordings do give him justice. He is truly one of the greats from times gone by that is still with us singing what I call "message songs" designed to make you think about what's really going on in the world. Not surprising the big record companies black listed him many years ago , for sending out

  • In response to GSH and Aparthide israel: Gill did the right thing boycotting this country, by playing there, he was giving Aparthide israel legitamacy and recognition. israel's people don't need to be reminded of the evil that rules their country after all, they voted it in. It's about time israel's people realise THEY now need to take some action otherwise they will be accountable. Aparthide is Evil and Occupation of another's land is worse.

  • é muito bom e faz nos a melhor companhia quando estamos em estado de completa deriva.

  • In reply to the comments about Gil going to Israel, he recently cancelled the gig. I live in Israel and I'm not surprised he isnt coming, was actually surprised he considered it in the first place. Yeah this is a fucked up country for sure but some, do struggle against the intolerance, racism, ignorance, violence and apathy of much of Israeli society.Of all people, Gil should have come, he can really tell it like it is and who knows some may have listened, though not many.Nothing really changes.

  • Talkin' bout my generation.

  • CRBILLY, you might have spoken too early because the guy has booked a concert with apartheid Jewishland aka Israel. I was always uncomfortable with his anti-white subjectives, but for him to continue into his old age is sad.

  • @Dabayare ...and if he goes there and criticises the State of Israel ?

  • time to light a spliff

  • @anarchydance

    Me too ...

  • I have just discovered this amazing singer........he is straordinary......he give me a strong feelings......so....better late than never..........alex

  • I love this man...wow....

  • This is beautiful....absolutly.

  • Amazing.

Saw him in 1982, I will never get enough and now he's BACK with the new cd. Stay with us this time Mr Heron!

    Respect

  • To inspire, express and explain the hope drivin desire of new begininngs, defines this song. Living in a generation impressed by Change, as success comes Mr.Heron keeps Hope alive...

  • What a poet! My personal all time favorite vocal poet. His album, Pieces of a Man, has got to go down as one of the top 100 greatest albums ever.

If you are new to Gil Scott Heron, you need to explore all of his early work. This is a GIANT.

  • I love gil scott-Heron, always have and always will........... he is an originator not an imitator, the True Soul of a Poet, one who feels life deeply.

  • Where are the Gills today, our music today is messed up, singing shit about how good NY city is by Alicia, truth is the US is worst enemy of the black man

  • This song is a healing to the mind and soul a reminder that there can always be new beginning

  • questo pezzo mi da grande ispirazione. è in fondo un blues in chiave moderna.

  • This is history and a perspective that is genuine. It articulates a sense of place which has not necesssarily lived up to expectations, is dissolute with it and wishes to be removed from it with progress, where material for that progress however is not provided and so dissolves into a dream, its a moment, dont make it a lifetime, its over.

  • @psyne000 ....It seems clear to me that this history is rich and overflows with the same dreams of a possible world today. Gils words continue to touch and inspire young minds yearning for more than this reality.

  • @dancewomyn1 Its deep....Thanks for your conversation, Blessings.

  • increíble Gil-Scott, Grande...

  • INSPIRATION YOU ARE ME AND I AM YOU

  • Gil Scott Heron represents the conscience, awareness, unity and compassion that many white conservative Americans, given their 19th-century sensibilities of rugged individualism, anti-intellectualism,and racism

need, but do not possess. These are the same people who extol America's love of freedom, yet ignore or are unaware of America's support for repression and dictatorship. ,

    Bill Honer, Costa Rica

  • anti-intellectualism ... what the fuck is that. You would be hard pressed to find many groups that are anti-intellectual first off all. I understand your point but in all seriousness ignorance and arrogance and different than anti-intellectualism

  • The read, memorize and repeats systems and then to boot, to listen to an "expert's opinion. This is a real fucked up problem....Gomer meets up with Homer & fer shame, fer shame, fer shame! Trojan Horse amidst--collapsing the nation within!

  • Wasn't countelpro a counter intelligence group??

  • @ONErudebwoy

It was Co-Intel-Pro. Counter Intelligence Programm.

it was mainly established to work against groups like the black Panther.

  • well said !!!!!

  • did u get dat out of a article?? if so where can i read it??

  • @crbilly And from a white, Mick-Canadian . . . I think you put that rather well, matey. Cheers.

  • @crbilly and no black american has that? People should stop thinking black and white, by now everyone has the chance of being a good person....some are black, some are white, should stop talking about the past

  • @crbilly its actually called collectivism not individualism... check it out.

  • @crbilly RIP Gil Scott Heron.

  • Moving and emotive. Gil Scott-Heron is a very fine musician.

  • Niceeeeeeeee

  • one of my all-time favourites - absolutely astonishing. It comes down to your level when you're low, and, at least to me, says 'It's okay - I feel the same as you.' I think people forget that sad and deep songs can be the most healing.

  • that really true what u say

  • @VoodooChile1988 you got it !

  • @VoodooChile1988 you are so right

  • @VoodooChile1988 Amen. Sometimes there is a sorrow that celebrates our humanity. Sometimes tears can wash you into gladness and thanksgiving. I love this song too. Gil Scott's gifts will always be treasured.

  • Gill will always be the Voice of the oppressed. God Bless you Gill.

  • Our freedom lies in our discovery of that "self" behind the self that we see in the mirror. It is the appearances that we respond to and reflect our lives around instead of standing in the oneness of "I and the Father/Mother are one, as well as every woman and man is my sister and brother and, yes, I am their keeper. We see ourselves separate and apart from that which created us and those who we are connected to, but this is our new beginning. Sorry, like Chappelle said, "The spirits got me!"

  • can´t believe that how fast the time go..........he is 60 it´s so sad to know that everybody one day die.....

  • Beautiful

We want 2 b free and yet we have no idea why we r struggling here faced with our every fear just 2 survive. We"ve heard the sound and come around 2 listening. We"ve touched the vibe timr after time insisting (that) we know what life means. Still we can"t break away from the dues we"ve got 2 pay we hope will somehow say that we've alive! Thanx Brotha Gil Scott Heron an Brian Jackson 4 your words PEACE 2 U

  • EXCUSE MY TYPE O

  • Thank you for caring enough to post the lyrics to this song. Gil vocal is great. His harmonizing is great. The man is great. He was too revolutionary for the times

when is early recordings came out, and

"the system" gave him hell. I hope young and older people find their way to his recordings at some point in their lives. He spoke and sang to make the world a better place, but society fustrated his every attempt. It's is out of thanks that I listen to Gil.

  • Houston TX,event Miller Outdoor Theater,June 9,09 to June 11,09 and Jazz Musical Performance Featuring REOWNED poet and spokenword Artist Gil Scott Heron, planning to be there.

  • Gil"s correct date of performance June 13,09-Miller Outdoor Threater -Contract# for Gil Scott Heron event-713-533-3276

  • yo bread1111, i too first saw gil and the midnite band at livingston.i was a student at rutgers.i saw him every time he toured after that. ive always thought of this masterpiece as an anthem for african people all over the planet!!

  • the pain is felt in each note that he spoke didnt purposely rhyme but being a young dude

    (18) I appreicate the essence of conscious and social incline message tru chicago legend I fuck wit gil

  • The true genious of Gil was nut just his love for Black people and our struggle, but his concern for humanity. He was singing about coal miners ("3 Miles Down") and undocumented immigrants ("Alien, Hold On To Your Dream") when they weren't on most people's radar. I felt he was the smartest person I know. Barack is the heir apparent. It's said, If I have seen further, it's only because I stood on the shoulders of the giants who came before me. Stay strong Gil, "You Could Be My Brother"

  • isto e o pe da revolucion

  • Gifted soul with a troubled mind.I hope he can put his drug habit behind him, lucky for us,that it doesn't merit his excellent plethora of music he has blessed us over the years with.

  • Absolutely a beautiful song, soooo damn with emotions.

  • Anybody have the song 'Offering' by Gil-Scott Heron please upload if you do?

  • Gil is a very in touch artist -- I put this song in my "life songs" category because we all want "new beginnings" in some way, shape or form not necessarily with "new people" but right where we are with the one we love today -- searching out our doubts, help us to stay clear of all confusion and oppression...

  • I feel this joint deep down in my bones! fantastic music worth every bit to listen
