DOH!!!!!!! Gotta love those training exercises/demonstrations that make ya look like an idiot to the public. A Back up line with a RIT would have been a novel idea. And who was the idiot in the bunker coat, helmet and BLUE JEANS?? PLEASE tell me that was not the Safety Officer. Good job guys, back to the Fire Academy for EVERYONE involved. Especially the officers.
Words can not describe how STUPID that was..... They should have known better or had someone with that did!!!!! That Chief and safety officer need to be removed!
Mishap MY ASS! More like stupidity, under-trained, moronic and just plain dumb. IhHate to use such strong verbiage, but it is 100% true....They should have known NOT to do what they did.
my god....it's like tempting fire to test your PPE and skin.....no real challenge there... fire that big always win when you push like that......hope those two are ok.....
doesnt even look like they knew what to do with the line..... sweep the floor.. hit the ceiling and make a push.... not crawl into a flashed over room thats well over 1200 degrees...
I can see the 1st guy getting caught up in the moment and the second guy going well i am new and they told me to follow the guy in front of me no matter what I am wondering if the third guy was thinking oh shit is a firefighter suppose to save another firefighter. Glad to see everyone made and I want to thank the guys who posted this video it is great training material
Amateurs! Our gear is only fire retardant, not firePROOF! You don't walk into FIRE, you put the fire out! We walk into heavy smoke, but not right into the beast
@lancestar2 When something looks like that, when your inside things can be diff inside the fire, they thought they were gonna open a fog pattern on the nozzle but that failed and thats when they set their pass off
this is actually a video of 2 probies they were told they were going to do a demonstartion where they went in and put the fire out they took it too litterally and went into it while it was still engulfed.
I usually apply water before entering a structure. Send these dudes back to probie school. Its kinda sad when the kids in the crowd notice you're doing something wrong.
Hi, why did he actually went into the flames? I am not an firefighter but I did receive 3 years of training to become one. I don't understand why he did this. I hope he will recover, but this seems so unnecessary.
As i see in a previous comment, these were inexperienced firefighters who had never dealt with a real fire. It is sad that a department trying to show off for their town would let two extremely green probies do such a thing without proper instruction. I wish a full recovery from this incident and hope the department learns and never lets it happen again.
There wasn't superior officers there. This was a brand new department, that built the building to show the people in the town what the new fire department could do. Sadly, I don't think they were impressed the right way.
Chief Mittendorf, Division Chief of Chicago Fire Department told myself and a large group of FF Officers about this during a Fire Leadership Conference here in Alaska in Sept.
FIREFIGHTER GEAR IS MEANT TO WITHSTAND HEAT, NOT DIRECT FLAME OF A FULLY INVOLVED FIRE. Regardless of whether or not it was a live burn. This was OBVIOUSLY the work of inexperienced firefighters, an inexperience department, and inexperienced chiefs/officers in charge. There is NEVER a time where you would crawl/walk/go into a structure like that. It does not matter WHO or WHAT is in there, the first rule of a firefighter is personal safety. The point is not to become the victim yourself.
What a hard ass that guy is. He must like to have burns all over his body. and want to die over stupid shit. The video title should saw, DUMB FUCK AT WORK. and i am a firefighter.
I was just at conference with Chief Mittendorf, the way he explained it, this was a department in Pennsylvania, these FF's had NEVER been to a real fire before, only at a regional training facility where the flames are controlled by someone else, and the heat is minimal compared to this. This was a demonstration in front of about 200 people to show off the new department or new whatever, and they did it EXACTLY the same way you would go into a controlled area, note the way they entered...
...the building, just as you would at a training facility. They had absolutely NO experience other than that. They didn't realize just HOW hot the devil can get, and waltzed right into his home. They were medivaced and both survived. I believe the second one in was a female. Stupid, dumb asses, idiots...all these words are something we would say, but we are experienced, they walked in with no clue. "Sad" is a better word. I'm sure they never made that mistake again.
Thanks for the explanation. It sure seemed as if they were new to the "game". Poor judgement on the more expirienced collegues who let them do this though. My firehouse has a yearly open house and we let the newby`s help with the kids games and the demo`s are left to the more expirienced ff`s.
@fireAKems then its not the firefighters fualt its the cheifs fualt or the officers fualt! period if they had no experince why were theyy teamed up why wasnt there a trained person with them? its comon frickin sence people
Wow, that is an unbelievable piece of footage. I cannot think of any reason to go into a blaze like that. What in the hell (on topic) are you going to find in there? A live victim? No way! I trust this is not examplary for US firefighters. But still I wish them the best an hop they (and all firefighters) stay safe!
Even a cubic meter of water won't help much, the whole room is burning (it has reached the flashover) - in other words, the average temperature in that structure is 800°C... got the picture?
Get with the picture?Been a FF for 10 years! in the uk we have high press' hosereels that can knock down temp/hold back flashover with spray mist of a few cupfuls of water. These guys are just showin off and lookin retarded at the same time.Correct PPE and gettin even a cumbersome 45m jet in would change conditions for entry in no time.Dont try to patronise me, entry procedure+equipment would sort this plus a vent for the gases at the back to lower the temp,Simple problem....Simple solution!
The water will evaporate in a couple of seconds because of the intense heat; the only useful thing would be knocking down most of the fire BEFORE ever attempting an "aggressive" attack.
I realise youre not,but i am.If you do your research british fire developlment understanding has advanced. You'd be amazed at what high pressure hosereels can do.They lower compartment temp massively together with branch techniques, but what these guys have done is not set in place a safe system of work or a vent to direct any potential flashover to the back of the box.
@fireAKems Are you kidding? Steam is a danger in a closed compartment fire, but in this situation OF COURSE YOU SOAK THEM. WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER.
not only will the water evaporte, but also it will do somthing called steam burning, it is just as dangrous as not wetting the gear and even worse in the long run
I'm a Fire fighter and you're right. When you wet yourself it hurts like hell, because not only does it evaporate...it steams. It BURNS to get wet, pretty bad.
first of all never ever enter a burnin building with fire over ur head thts called a flashover two enter the building on ur back and put a fog pattern to enter secure safety no offense but this video is the way not to enter a burning building
These fucking numpties don't deserve to wear the uniform. They give us all a bad name. The poor kid you can hear in the crowd will be mentally scarred for life!! They should've fired the lot of them, especially the officer in charge who let the fuckwits go in. We are not all like that honest!!!
GOOD QUESTION HERE IS, Is this a case of lack or awareness, or training?? I would love to know if these guys are wetbacks?? ROOKIES?? These are some extremely lucky guys to still be alive... WE SHOULD ALL take a pause and reflect on staying safe
Did anyone bother to tell these guys that the gear they are wearing was not designed to let them just hang out for a few minutes in the middle of a fireball?
yea, i learned back in FF1. that insrtucter saying if its to much not go in
i thought what he said,
went through half the course, but, im running inder probationary for i feel its not the time just yet, i want to learn more n run the calls B } which is good
do you really have to say anything here, I am sure their skin graft is a daily reminder of how dumb they really are!! Where are all the over eager, under trained juiceballs to defend these morons, like they did for the lunatic driver responding down the wrong side of the highway (see "dangerous driving by a firefighter" youtube) I guess they will not defend stupidity when they see the outcome of stupid decision making!
Looks like someone watched BACKDRAFT to many times. If you listen close you can hear the 2nd guy in line say (YOU GO, WE GO) I can see one dumb Firefighter but two. time for retraining!!!!!!
See how the firefighters get real low they have to.... WTH if they had any common sense at all they would have looked at that and said no way am i going in there, before opening the nozzle and pushing the fire back. no disrespect but until these guys can learn when to go in and when not to go in they should be suspended from duty Immediately. Ha I might be a probie fresh out of firefighter 1 but i know that was two dangerous to enter. And i just hope to God they were ok and learned from that.
Wow. the little girl yelling "Daddy get out" says it all. that is one of the stupidest things i have ever seen, and all for the sake of a demonstration. that is just wow. thats all i can say
what the hell were they thinking?!! it doesn't take a genious not to go into an environment like that until the fire has been placed under control. STUPID! STUPID! they're lucky they escaped with their lives! oh my damn!!!
I agree, and there are too many of us who think we're invincible in our gear... I think this is part of the reason why here in NJ - live burns like this are banned and anyone doing something like this, even if nothing bad happens, can face serious jail time.
@galiean251 : Yep, Around 30 seconds of protection from high temperatures before turnout gear is useless, probably a whole lot less when its actually on fire.
