@Fironnathedarkelf You have a Chinese language option!? I wish my high school did! We only have Japanese, and even though I love it, Sensei probably wouldn't let us watch this since its Mandarin Chinese and not Japanese :( But I love this movie.
This sounds a lot quicker than the 'main theme' version found on other soundtracks... or is just my ears having a Zhuge Liang trick played on them? :-)
The thing I noticed in this movie is how clever the Chinese at the time were.. I mean MAN ! from the way how Zhu ge liang obtained 10,000 arrows from the enemy and how he predicted that the weather is going to change, as well as the development of the automatic crossbow to the fact that he discovered the principle of hot air balloons.. this guy is a freakin genius ! and the war tactics, the yin yang turtle method and all they were just fascinating!
Most of the things in this movie is completely fictional. The battles in this movie is about as accurate as Braveheart's Battle of Sterling Bridge without the bridge. In fact, they get a lot of armors and weaponry wrong - where is the crossbow? The leather caps were used during the Western Han era, not the Eastern Han era, etc. Kong Ming didn't invent the semi-auto crossbow either. The historical inaccuracies go on and on...
Also the 100k arrows was done by another strategist
well, I agree with you, the movie was based off from the book Sanguoyanyi, and of course, being the fact that its a book certain things can be fictional.. but ive seen in wikpedia and other sources that the auto cross bow was made by Zhu Ge Liang (kong ming) could be wrong though and he did in fact obtain 100,000 arrows from the enemy when I read the actual book. Again, these can be fictional or wrong your totally correct.
Aye, but John Woo added a lot of completely fictional elements for an over-the-top style. ie. the generals are using martial arts to single handedly kill hundreds of soldiers...? That's way too much DynastyWarriorish..without even the fancy DW armors and weapons.
Kong Ming did indeed obtain the 100k arrows i the book, but iirc, that was actually Sun Quan? according to the ROTK chronicles.
What's annoying for me is Woo's imagination - ridiculous maze formations, human pyramids, etc
@Intranetusa The semi mythical nature of the stories in ROTK included themselves some clearly magical bits. The maze formation also reminded my a bit of the quasi-magical battles in the Indian epic the Mahabharata. And the 100k arrow bit was Zhuge Liang as seen in this film.
Red Cliff is based on one of the battles that was part of the Three Kingdoms Era as told by Luo Guanzhong.
There are many games based on the conflicts. SHAOLINPHEONIX already listed a few. Of course, you can change the timeline in the game. For example in one of the tactics games, instead of Zhuge Liang historically dying in the Wuzhang Plains, he helps restore the Han dynasty.
I wasn't a big fan of any Asian Action movies, til I saw this! Now this is my favorite movie! This movie inspired me to retrace my chinese roots. The music in this movie was perfect, & played at the right time! Thank you for uploading this!
