paulzonkey thanks for posting this video. I had thought this lost to time. I saw it on the news much to the dismay of my parents. They were not amused that I spent Friday and Saturday night doing this for fun. They were downright pissed when I got interviewed on TV.
M. Stipe lived in St. Louis for most of High School from what I understand. It's him. Vintage Rocky Horror patrons were most amusing.. so glad it's captured on video.
@DazeyMay -- Actually, he lived in Belleville, Illinois, a small city just southeast of St. Louis. Mike Doskocil, of the band "Drunks with Guns" tells funny stories of Stipe hanging out in the University City "Loop" area (where the Varsity used to be - now it's a Vintage Vinyl music store) and hitting on other guys' GIRLFRIENDS!!
He lived in Granite City, Not Belleville. That is what the song "Don't Go Back To Rockville" is about. Get it? Granite City - Rockville? 78 - 80 were my years. Maybe 40 times in 2 1/2 years.
Well, wikipaedia says he went to Colinsville H.S. ... doesn't Granite City have a high school? I lived there as a little kid, so I don't know anything about the high school. Anyway, in St. Louis it's all "East Side"!!
@avidrocker Whoa, how many years was he in Collinsville? He's 2 yrs older than me...I got to know him a little in the early 80s in Lawrence. The weird part for me is, prior to that I had been a travelling k-mart photog and spent many weeks in Collinsville, Jerseyville, Bellville and Alton, and it never came up in any of our conversations...how odd. Even funnier to hear him mention KC, makes me wonder if he had spent time here before the W.S. Burroughs after party days in Lawrence
@thutton67 The famous Vlad is a celebrity from televisions famous World Wide Magazine. Don't you know nuthin'? Let me ask you, do you know what a hoosier is?
@thutton67 Let's just say he's an unconventional conventionalist and leave it at that. If you don't know what a hoosier is, there's nothing I can do for ya.
The fact that the announcer had to explain this, because, what? Were singing, dancing, and wearing costumes the hallmarks of insanity in those days? Why did all the best / weirdest movies come out then?
I'm not saying you wouldn't get looks for wearing those outfits, but I don't think people would ACTUALLY QUESTION YOUR SANITY. They'd just say you were a freak (and likely a sinner), and leave it at that. No one thinks Lady Gaga has a screw loose, for example, no matter how "weird" she seems.
@paulzonkey you know? It's clunky, the same words are repeated to close too each & it sounds bad & it's recorded voiceover so someone clearly wrote it & it's horribly written
omg! LOL!

I think it's really cool to see and hear Michael pre-R.E.M. I also think it's really cool that he's always looked really cool in make-up. :-)

@paulzonkey A Hoosier is an Indianan. But this Noskov can't be anyone of note if he has no wikipedia entry. Why don't u create one?

You know, I always say I wanted to live in the 70's, but...then I forget that people like this announcer were the *norm*...
Would true originality and culture rebellion be worth having to live side by side with all of the morons? Can it truly be any other way?
(Hah! That is definitely Michael Stipe, btw...)

@001bf Stipe was born in Decatur, GA, lived in many different cities through his childhood and didn't go to Athens until college.
