  • omg! LOL!

  • anyone know what year this was???

  • @codern I'm pretty sure it was 1978.

  • @paulzonkey thats what i was thinking too, but i read it came out in 75, so i was a bit confused...esp. cuz Stipe didnt look 15 :)

  • is michael stipe the blond leather jacket frank they were interviewing?

  • I think it's really cool to see and hear Michael pre-R.E.M. I also think it's really cool that he's always looked really cool in make-up. :-)

  • paulzonkey thanks for posting this video. I had thought this lost to time. I saw it on the news much to the dismay of my parents. They were not amused that I spent Friday and Saturday night doing this for fun. They were downright pissed when I got interviewed on TV.

  • The worst form of nerdism.

  • Awesome! He obviously loved Blue Oyster Cult also...dig the logo on his jacket

  • K-SHE Pig Shirts! Ha! "Real Rock Radio!!"

  • My GOD! They cut off the Slyman Brothers at the end. Oh...the humanity!

  • M. Stipe lived in St. Louis for most of High School from what I understand. It's him. Vintage Rocky Horror patrons were most amusing.. so glad it's captured on video.

  • @DazeyMay -- Actually, he lived in Belleville, Illinois, a small city just southeast of St. Louis. Mike Doskocil, of the band "Drunks with Guns" tells funny stories of Stipe hanging out in the University City "Loop" area (where the Varsity used to be - now it's a Vintage Vinyl music store) and hitting on other guys' GIRLFRIENDS!!

  • @DailyBrusher

He lived in Granite City, Not Belleville. That is what the song "Don't Go Back To Rockville" is about. Get it? Granite City - Rockville? 78 - 80 were my years. Maybe 40 times in 2 1/2 years.

  • @chefafischer

Well, wikipaedia says he went to Colinsville H.S. ... doesn't Granite City have a high school? I lived there as a little kid, so I don't know anything about the high school. Anyway, in St. Louis it's all "East Side"!!

  • @chefafischer The Rockville in question is in Maryland. Im from Granite City and am typing this in Rockville, Indiana.

Stipe lived in Collinsville, Il. Graduated in 78.

  • Which one is Vlad?

  • @billstreeter He's on the right at first with a pointy hat, dressed in black with a lot of pink makeup on his puffy cheeks.

  • @paulzonkey Who is Vlad Noskov?

  • @thutton67 The famous Vlad is a celebrity from televisions famous World Wide Magazine. Don't you know nuthin'? Let me ask you, do you know what a hoosier is?

  • @paulzonkey A Hoosier is an Indianan. But this Noskov can't be anyone of note if he has no wikipedia entry. Why don't u create one?

  • @thutton67 Let's just say he's an unconventional conventionalist and leave it at that. If you don't know what a hoosier is, there's nothing I can do for ya.

  • You know, I always say I wanted to live in the 70's, but...then I forget that people like this announcer were the *norm*...

Would true originality and culture rebellion be worth having to live side by side with all of the morons? Can it truly be any other way?

(Hah! That is definitely Michael Stipe, btw...)

  • The fact that the announcer had to explain this, because, what? Were singing, dancing, and wearing costumes the hallmarks of insanity in those days? Why did all the best / weirdest movies come out then?

I'm not saying you wouldn't get looks for wearing those outfits, but I don't think people would ACTUALLY QUESTION YOUR SANITY. They'd just say you were a freak (and likely a sinner), and leave it at that. No one thinks Lady Gaga has a screw loose, for example, no matter how "weird" she seems.

  • This is THE greatest video ever. I'm proud to hail from the town from which Michael Stipe escaped.

  • yes michael stipe is from athens, and you are not allowed to be anywhere else when you are from athens...i hate being had BTW.

  • That is not Michael Stipe. Stipe is from Athens, GA.

    You've been had.

  • @001bf He lived in the St. Louis area in the late 70s. "Stipe graduated from high school in Collinsville, Illinois in 1978." Check wikipedia.

  • @001bf Stipe was born in Decatur, GA, lived in many different cities through his childhood and didn't go to Athens until college.

  • i find the two ron burgundy's and their reaction to it all, is the funniest part of the video clip.

  • @paulzonkey you know? It's clunky, the same words are repeated to close too each & it sounds bad & it's recorded voiceover so someone clearly wrote it & it's horribly written

  • "the characters in this movie are dressed like these people which explains why these people are dressed as they are" that's just horrible writing

  • @digvoldon Oh, You mean the quality of the newscast script. I see.

  • Best he ever looked.

  • OMGOMGOMG. I LOVE THIS! MICHAEL STIPE!!!

  • Posted some screen caps and story at our blog. Check it out. itsnotyouitsme. org

  • ALOKA!

  • I love it..

  • Michael looks like Dee Snider :D

  • Oh my Good...i'm in shock.

  • That is hilarious!

  • haha this is m.stipe, isn't it?it's amazing video how did u find it.

  • Stipey Stipey Stipey...

  • Howard Stern at :57?

  • @Bellyflops2 LOL, it does look like him. Back then though, Stern would've had a Weird Al moustache and fro.

  • WOOHOO Michael is at 1:30!

  • Pete Piccione rules... thanks, Paul
