  • acctually she would be cultura soprano but because of that strong alto and how she sings her notes it would be considered Dramatic coloratura soprano

  • Singers of Lucrecia's caliber, cannot be put into any range cause she's got them all covered, I think. She's all of the above and even more. It's sort of like Aretha Franklin. They are just gifted who are rangeless from the bottom to the top.

  • CMON HERE!!! YESSSUH!

  • No she's not an alto .... though there are mezzos and contraltos who have high notes there tessitura is lower.... and thats one of the main factors of determining there vocal category

  • A Coloratura Soprano is a type of operatic Soprano who specializes in music that is distinguished by agile runs and leaps. the teerm Coloratura refers to the elaborate ornamentation of a melody, which is a typical component of the music written for the voice. Within the coloratura category, there are roles written specifically for lighter voices known as lyric coloraturas and others for larger voices known as Dramatic coloraturas. some roles may be sung by either voices.

  • She is the boom befor the Clark sister

  • YES LORD!!!!!

  • By the way, I want to say that God was so smart in the way He created people and even their voices... so much so that classifying, many times, just doesn't work. I guess people weren't made to be classified.

  • she is a soprano....no where near a mezzo soprano

  • She sings really high in head voice, but she rarely sings into soprano range in chest voice. So what's wrong with calling her a mezzo, or even an alto? I guess it depends on whether you are coming from a classical standpoint or not. I hear all the hype about how much of a soprano she is and I never have gotten it. From a classical perspective, yes, she sings super soprano. But many are not classical, and to me "soprano" means someone who can sing both the highest chest and head voice parts.

  • okebaram... i understand your view point... but in classical females rarely sing in their head voice... even low altos don't sing in their full chest voice, but they sing in their mix.. she is classified as a soprano because of her tone quality... yes there are mezzos both in the non classical genre and classical that can sing soprano, but they can't sustain that high range for a long time... but i do understand where u r comin from... blessings..

  • But aren't there a few people that have commented that knows her personally and she classifies herself as an Alto?

  • @CurtBrian She will mostly be seen singing with altos, but whenever she is over the choir she uses her full voice and sings soprano. How many altos can sing that high?

  • @Kdn89b great insight into voice. I understand now that this is her modal voice. I also realize that many classical females are actually singing in modal voice, but some others sing in a pure head voice mix (deep powerful head voice)

  • @Kdn89b was that a mistake in saying that classical females don't really use their head voices? classical sopranos and mezzos shun the chest voice altogether. they sing on the air. gospel singers use a belt or mixed voice, depending on their training!!

  • @couturesixfour Yes it was... you are correct :). Classical singers dnt use full chest...

  • Please do not call this woman a mezzo!

  • @queendanee Forgive me lol! That was 11 months ago. I would never make such a statement now. I understand voice better now and Kdn89b is very right.

  • She goes to the church like 5 min. away from me....greatly anointed singer...yes...she does classifiy herself as an classically trained alto...and in classical music altos don't really exist.... it's either soprano, mezzo-soprano, or contralto....She's probably a lyric mezzo soprano....but either way she's singing the praises of the most high which is most important.

  • Amen - as a contralto, nice to see someone using the correct term.

  • @ejame002 i think she has a nice blend of the two genres. she is trained, but her upper register at times isn't at clear as a true mezzo, but that is the sound she wants and prefers. i love her instrument!! i've heard her live a few times and loved her each time!! she blew karen out the water at a convocation in NC one time!! i love this chic!!

  • @couturesixfour really?!?! please, do tell....

  • @aaroplainsimple15 do tell what...i didn't feel like scrolling down through past posts...what is the question again?

  • @couturesixfour i wanted to know what exactly happened when lecresia "blew karen out the water", as you described.

  • @aaroplainsimple15 there isn't much to tell, i am not one to hyperbolize. rather simple, karen did Balm in Gilead and then Campbell did Even Me... outdid her!! she was cleaner, her range was clearer, and she was a lil bit nicer to the people, but we all have our days!! however, she summed karen right on up that night!!! i love them both, but she got her there....WAS THAT SUFFICIENT ENOUGH FOR YOU??!??!??

  • @couturesixfour yes, that was more than enough. i wasn't trying to bother you, i was just curious. thanks!

  • @aaroplainsimple15 i wasn't bothered! just didn't know what you meant when you put the quotations around what i said. it's no shade darling. i have always liked here...she too has had her days, but we are all human!!! they are both fabulous...i just can't take karen's screaming and carrying on sometimes!!! but karen is why i like gospel music today. i saw the clark sisters in the hallelujah video years ago!!!

  • @ejame002 lolz no no she's either a lyric/coloratura soprano.... mezzo's dont hang in high d 's and e's like she does

  • Wow...the Anointing - a true blue SONGTRESS. God Bless you LC!

  • Does anyone have the booking information for Lecresia Campbell?

  • send me a message with your contact info...i'll connect her with you...

  • can someone PLEASE tell me where I can find cd's with Lecresia on them? I can't seem to find them anywhere

  • if you google any wilmington chester album, shes always on one of them...and she did a mississippi cd(amazning love)also try to google walt whitman and soul children cds...shes always on those too...good luck

  • my dearest lecresia, she has range...she is strong within her chest voice, but DESTROYS when she goes up into her head voice...then to have the gift of the octave whistle tones? i just wanna sing with her!!! lol

  • that ne-ra-a-a-a-a-a-a got me..lol

  • While this is not the best of Lecretia at all, who the heck cares if she's an alto or soprano??? The woman can SAAAANNNG and I'm sure her lifestyle is cleaner than a whole heapa Christians arguing over insignificant nonsense!

  • One of my fav singers. It's sad she's so underrated.

  • Omg! She is a beast....I love it!..

  • Cinque oh my!!!! Im so a fan of yours. I was wondering what you have been doing with that great ministry of yours!!!! How is Lecresia doing? Tell her I said I love her.

  • eeeeeeehhhhhh....uuuuuhh Hit that note sister!!!!

  • Sing girl!

  • who is on the keys, it sound like the same person who played for the Mississippi Childrens Choir on the New Creation...

  • Jerry Smith - MS Mass and MS Children's Choir. This is actually his arrangement recorded with his group in '94

  • hey, i have been searching and cannot find her bookin information. I know i am going to need it one day!!!

  • hey she's my aunt, send me your email i can get you all the info. you need

  • sing girl

  • she is a coloratura soprano, there are coloratura mezzos, tenors, baritones, it existsat every voal type though rarer in lower voices.

  • She is a coloratura not an alto, nor a mezzo she has range.

  • The poster that says she is an alto knows her personally. He was in the Soul Children and she

is connected with that choir. I've heard many people who know Ms. Campbell personally, who say that she is an alto. Actually you can tell if you listen to her chest voice.

  • Voice qualification is more about voice quality than range. From her vocal tone she does not sound a alto;listen to the way she sounds when she sings the high notes...an alto would be a darker sound..I know this because I am a classically trained singer; graduating in May with a degree in music specializing in voice.

  • Lecresia refers to herself as an alto, there should be no debate. She is an alto whether we like it or not, and she is classically trained too and she has taught voice. I think this is a good lesson, lets stop putting singers in a box, because what we think we hear is not always accurate.

  • lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Altos typically do not reach such high notes and be clsssified as a alto but as a soprano, despite whatever classication, the Quality of any voice is the most important factor period.

  • she probably liked singing alto in church choir backin the day and nowadays since she'z teaching she love to sing it (BUT) Ms. Campbell aint no Alto!!!or Mezzo soprano!!!!She'z a SUPRANAH as my great great aunt pearl would say!!!!!!!!!!lol!!!!!

  • lol

  • If anyone can get the video and see this all the way through you need to...this was recorded with Jerry Smith and the Children of Israel in the 90s i believe on Jackson State's campus. she did some kind of waterfall effect with her voice at the end that sounded like about 4+ notes!! NEVER have i heard anything like it - before or since!!

  • This album was recorded in '94 @ Calloway H.S. in Jackson, MS. The MS Children's Choir recorded first on the same concert. This was the recording with Brian W singing Eye on the Sparrow

  • Oh wow cool I had no idea

  • @ajlmusic i have been looking for this track, and cannot find that album anywhere! could you possibly send me "draw me near"?? would be a true blessing...

  • Oh God, dat Lecrecia Campbell is a bad gurl!!!!

  • omg...i remember seeing this clip on sunday mornings...

  • LaCresia then made me throw my shoe at my computer! YOU BETTER SING GURL!!!

  • Mrs. Cambell in my opinion is a annointed lite coloratura soprano!

  • You're right... I have almost all the c.d's w/her in it... and the song "Even Me" she really hit a note there that was higher than the notes in this song...she's an awesome singer....

  • Hey where can I find her singing "Even Me"?? Is it on here or on a CD!?

  • Actually its not on youtube! It's on her c.d entitled "Even Me"... It was released way back in 97 or 98 i believe!I don't think they sell the c.d anymore...I usually hate Opera! But not when lecresia does it... "Even Me" and "Great is thy faithfulness" were the 2songs in the c.d that cracked me up...lol...

  • can you please tell me how to get "Even Me" or email it to me. I had the cd with her singing "Even Me", "Seasons Change", and like 5 other songs. Someone stole it from me like 4 years ago. If you can get it to me send me a personal message. Thank you

  • YOU need to see the whole song brother, this is a VERY short part of it......

  • hehe, your right, i actually have this c.d...It reminded me of the song she sang "even me" she did the same effect at the end, which really went w/the song...awesome...

  • this is not at bobby jones. this is jerry smith and the children of israel's live recording...

  • Tru, your right

  • Yea! I knew this was not bobby jones gospel...But she did appear on the bobby jones gospel one time, and she blew it w/ Gods glory...

  • Minister Campbell...is just ANOINTED!!!!!!!!!

  • Sang Cresia!!

  • MY LAWD!!!

  • WOW

  • WOW... SING SALLY...lol. Now you know you can just sing Campbell... Amazing.

  • If I'm not mistaken I just watched a video with your choir and Lecresia Campbell. I really liked the song. Since you know Ms Campbell personally, what does she classify her voice as. I know some people who say she is an alto with a lot of range. Is this true?

  • She is a natural Alto with colorature (or however u spell it...lol) soprano range

  • Thank You, that's what I thought.

  • Hey I just caught your screen name...I have one of your cds. How have you been? Are you still active in music?

  • Aw wow, I hope the CD has blessed you. I am still very active in music. I have been conducting workshops and singing across the country and am now working on two projects. Check out my myspace page it has a little more information. Blessing and Peace

  • I wouldn't waste my time baby...

  • Comment removed

  • Oh and your last album was the bomb

  • When a person sings gospel they tend to have a heavier chest register, which is harder classify...but it does not mean she is an alto even if she sings alto at times...I grew up singing gospel and chose to pursue classical music in college. Most people hear my chest voice and think alto, but I am a lyric soprano with a broad vocal range. Google an alto or mezzo and listen to the differenceI could be wrong, but I would say a soprano (not sure whether dramatic lyric or coloratura)

  • She has been my hero for a very long time... I saw her at the Easter Service at The Cathedral of Faith in Atlanta like 12 years ago. She is CRAZY hot.

  • Lecresia is a beast!

  • She's A dramatic Soprano i believe

  • naw, actually shes a coloratura.....the highest soprano range...and shes annointed

  • say whaaaat? this lady better sing this song... I dont know about Betty Nelson, but Lecresia can hit those notes... She was on BET too, and blew that place away........ I'm a fan of her now.....

  • You better saang Lecresia. Man her voice is perfect. She got the alto thing and the soprano thing going with her voice. Her chest voice is straight alto and her head voice is straight first soprano. She could be a really good opera singer too.

  • @nipace So True She will Be A Very Bad Soprano Have The Audience wanting more and More But God Got her where he wants her in The Church House Amen!
