this solo is pretty boring. just basic double bass beats and jungle tom beats mixed together. i could play this solo (without fucking up at 2:17). but he's a pretty solid drummer, and he suits disturbed pretty well, so meh.

This is a true musician. Sure it's not complex, because it doesn't NEED to be. Sometimes the SIMPLEST music is the BEST. AC/DC's drumming is VERY similar throughout their songs, but they are an INCREDIBLY successful and LOVED band. It doesn't matter if you can drum faster, drum louder, or whatever than Mike, it's the fact that he LOVES what he does, and people LOVE him. By the by, 'Blasting' is impressive, yes, but it's too much going on at once to handle. SLOW DOWN GUYS!

@rkl08551 How can you make ANY sonic judgment when the mic on the camera clearly cant handle the shear volume of sound being thrown at it. I know what I'm hearing here from the cymbals, kick, toms etc theres part of the sound missing and you never know the snare may be under miced and sound a lot more open than it does here.

(also its more likely the trigger on the drums is to open the noise gates for the mics which is general practice)

Not impressed. Mike's playing on some of the Disturbed songs is pretty cool. I like how syncopated some of his grooves are, but this was dull. There was zero dynamic variation and no real sense of direction, just a couple of beats thrown together with the obligatory quad wankery in the middle. A good solo develops a rhythmic idea and takes it somewhere interesting. I honestly expected something better given his drumming in the band.

Mike just seems like a lazy drummer to me because he knows he can get away with it by playing easy stuff, since people don't know any better. Every drummer has their style, but the fact that he doesn't try hard is disappointing. He COULD play better and inspire people like me, but instead he chooses to just be average like the rest.
The reason why disturbed is so fucking good is because they actually put heart into their guitar and drum solos, its not just random shreading that makes no sense, each solo is specific to each song and only fits in that song. Dan Donegan (guitarist for disturbed) has said that every solo he writes means something to the song its in.... thats what makes disturbed great

It's technically correct, has it's very own style and fits to Disturbed's style, so what's the problem? Disturbed uses similar patterns in the most of their songs, so is with this drum solo, but it's their way to be.
If you don't understand the main idea, don't bother to stay the obvious fact, that the solo is pretty simple, beacuse it is, but it's the idea.
And one more thing to add- if you can do it better I encourage to write a solo that FITS disturbed style, record it and upload.

I think you misunderstand. No it wasn't complicated but it wasn't suppoesed to be a complicated drum solo. As anyone can see the rest of the band is not on stage and this is just his little warmup for 1. Himself and 2. The croud. I've watched right about to where he breaks into down with the sickness beat and im pretty sure he's doing a good job at warming up the croud.
Plus wengren is amazing on drums and could pull a sweet ass solo anyday.
i like disturbed but i do think that they are not hat good at all. nice and tight for sure but nothing that is surprising or doing a change or an improvisation. There rythems on cd make it almost impossible to change it on stage wich is a shame in my opinion. BUt eventhough i like them alot....Sorry for my spelling, im no englisch guy

It's more about rythm then speed motherfuckers, he could of course go faster but that would not be nearly as good, the way he does it is far better than just hitting random drums as fast as humanly possible, thats the way Disturbed does their songs and its way better than superfast drumming or shredding because of the way the different instruments compliment eachother to make one orgasmic colaboration of awesomeness instead of 2 dudes shredding and some idiot banging on drums. Second, I could name MANY drummers that are way better... mike mangini, mike portnoy, thomas lang, virgil donati, dave weckl, marco minnemann, etc. etc. If you are inspired by wengren, awesome, because everyone has opinions. But just educate yourself and watch some videos of the above drummers.

@goowy1256 Well I can agree with that. But if I were a drummer, I would want to be passionate or at least creative and play some cool patterns during a drum solo. Mike just seems like a lazy drummer to me because he knows he can get away with it by playing easy stuff, since people don't know any better. Every drummer has their style, but the fact that he doesn't try hard is disappointing. He COULD play better and inspire people like me, but instead he chooses to just be average like the rest.

The reason why disturbed is so fucking good is because they actually put heart into their guitar and drum solos, its not just random shreading that makes no sense, each solo is specific to each song and only fits in that song. Dan Donegan (guitarist for disturbed) has said that every solo he writes means something to the song its in.... thats what makes disturbed great

It's technically correct, has it's very own style and fits to Disturbed's style, so what's the problem? Disturbed uses similar patterns in the most of their songs, so is with this drum solo, but it's their way to be.
If you don't understand the main idea, don't bother to stay the obvious fact, that the solo is pretty simple, beacuse it is, but it's the idea.
And one more thing to add- if you can do it better I encourage to write a solo that FITS disturbed style, record it and upload.

i love disturbed, i love mikes playing in songs, its different from others with all of the work on the toms. but his solos arent the best in my opinion. if i was at the concert, id definately be pumped and itd be great but on here i gotta say that was pretty good, but now spectacular honestly. still, hes a great drummer and i love his style

I think you misunderstand. No it wasn't complicated but it wasn't suppoesed to be a complicated drum solo. As anyone can see the rest of the band is not on stage and this is just his little warmup for 1. Himself and 2. The croud. I've watched right about to where he breaks into down with the sickness beat and im pretty sure he's doing a good job at warming up the croud.
Plus wengren is amazing on drums and could pull a sweet ass solo anyday.

i like disturbed but i do think that they are not hat good at all. nice and tight for sure but nothing that is surprising or doing a change or an improvisation. There rythems on cd make it almost impossible to change it on stage wich is a shame in my opinion. BUt eventhough i like them alot....Sorry for my spelling, im no englisch guy
