question though: for your corkscrew, it looks like you're wrapping the string counter-clockwise around the top, which in my experience can work, but i find that a clockwise wrap around the tip works (at least for me anyways) significantly more consistently.

sorry, I guess that wasn't really a question. I meant to phrase it so that it asked if wrapping it counter-clockwise was what you were actually doing, and then suggest trying a clockwise wrap.
