@TheSmileyPeace I realize their motivations, but if I own the roof that it falls on, it should be mine. After all, are their property rights or not. If I own the land, I should have the rights to the best use of that land. Ever Libertarian bone in my body aches at the thought of someone telling me that I can't collect the water from my own roof. I can't stomach the Nanny State.
@jknacasual no one can own the land or the air or the trees or the deer or the snakes or the fishies in the seas...stop with this insecure desire of possessing and you will stop the greed
@ifukdhhell666 That's a good one. God gave everyone the Earth to use and be good stewards of as free people. Whether you like it or not, personal property ownership is at the core of Liberty and Freedom. Greed has nothing to do with it. It is about the ability to provide for myself, my family, and not have to rely on anyone else for it. You can't do that without some possessions. The antithesis of this is that people who own nothing feel no need to contribute to anything. Reality is Reality.
It actually is not illegal in CO to collect anymore, as long as you're zoned residential. Commercial and agricultural collection are still regulated. It isn't so much a nanny thing, western water rights were all divided up and sold off decades ago.
@HomesteadProvocateur I've heard Alex Jones mention there are people that want to stop rain harvesting even on private property, but I did not know it was in effect anywhere! Truly insane!
@wilatemodel Wow. I did not know that there would be laws in other states about personal water collection. That is crazy! Basically, it would appear that they are taking ownership of the water itself. I wonder if you could say to the gov... "Your rain and hail damaged my roof, I'm going to need you guys to replace it!"
Thanks for the complement! I am already looking to build another larger system for potential drinking water system. (Reverse osmosis, or some type of Berkey filtrations) Watching some of your Mad Scientist videos has gotten me motivated in tinker. I am obviously not getting as complex as you though!
Technically, they are Lag Screws (I think I said Lag Bolts in the video...) given the point on the end. I felt they would hold a little better than some 4" exterior screws with their 1/4" shanks. They also feature the 9/16 Hex head which made it a little easier to rachet into the holes that I predrilled.
ATTENTION: Don't forget to waterproof the 4x4 studs into the ground. All that weight needs a healthy base for years to come. + + + +

Water is a BIG deal in the western states. Look at how California gets its water and you'll see why there are all sorts of laws governing it.

GR8 work ~ well done indeed
I may have rather had the 2 hinges on the opposite side ~ near to your original fencing
so it opened back ~the other way to be~out of the way ~and flush with the fencing

Yeah, in CO collecting rainwater is illegal so I would have to hide it.
