@caniloup Yes it's a Sobell 10-string from the 80s. This one is 615mm. without the capo, or about 24 & 3/16" in. But I've got it tuned to F and then capoed to G, so 2 frets shorter. That would be 550mm. or about 21 & 5/8"--quite a bit easier to handle.
@Markijoe65 : Two kinds of difference--technical: 4-courses=bouzouki, 5- or 6-courses=cittern; also scale length of 25" or above= bouzouki, shorter=cittern. And cultural: makers who trace their cultural lineage back to Johnny Moynihan/Alec Finn and their importation of the Greek bouzouki to Ireland in the 60s will call their instruments bouzoukis; builders who trace their inspiration to Stefan Sobell and his revival of the English/Scottish cittern in the 70s will call theirs citterns.
Had the privilege of seeing you play with Martin Hayes et al. at the Swannanoa Gathering a few years back. A friend of mine Beau Davis kept telling me I had to check out your playing and how right he was! Monster fingerstyle technique, I'd love to learn some of that!
Dear Mr. Sobol,
could you tell us please the exact scale length of your nice instrument? It's a Sobell, isn't it?
Thank you!
