@Jakareh: thanks for the interest! No, there is only one conductor throughout the video, Arturo Toscanini. Many say this is the most perfect Ninth they have heard, others despise it. Personally, I'm not gonna say its the best out there, but I haven't heard anything better.
I'm only 21 and I've listened to dozens of different orchestra's and choirs sing this. This is by far the best one I have ever heard. Gave me chills for the entire first 5 minutes.
Thanks for posting this brings back memories of Mr. Shaw and countless times we performed this piece. Especially the wonderful experience of singing it in East Berlin in the 1980's just before the wall came down. It was as if singing it there caused the walls to fall like in Jericho...

Pardon the ignorance, but were there two conductors?
Amazing performance in any case. I'm not sure anything of this quality is still being produced. Our culture is going downhill.

Thank you very much RLShaw for this excerpt from Testament! I had been looking for this. Viva Toscanini! Viva Beethoven!

as much as I love Leonard Bernstein--Toscanni & beethoven are unbeatable

A tremendous performance by both Toscanni and the NBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. The best I have ever seen or heard and I am 80 years old.
