  • what's the difference between hot rod XHR & hot rod XLR ?

  • Sorry if this is a idiot question but here I go anyway, does this pedal include a cable?

Because if not i have to svae money for a new cable too...

  • @BenNaccio No it doesnt, never seen a pedal to come with a cable.

  • whats better hot rod or hot head or the ds1? plz answer

  • @drewsly1 it depends. the hot head is actually an overdrive if you check the website. the Hot Rod is most likely the best of those for playing solo/lead stuff, whereas I think the DS-1 would be better for rhythm stuff.

  • @Thealmostexactguitar thanks man, is the grunge any good ?

  • @drewsly1 im actually gonna get it from guitar center this week, i heard its a really great pedal for soloing and for rythm playing, and i believe itll fit any style from classic rock to heavy metal, plus it has a nice amount of boost.

  • u sir are a master im soo geting these digitech pedals

  • I don't care if its Jack Black, this demo sucks as do most of his overdrive demos. Here's the deal: Why not read the booklet and show the different features instead of just plugging in and noodling. The Hot Rod has a morph knob that changes the pedal being modeled Rat Fuzz Face etc. Why not show that? How does the pedal clean up with the volume knob? What about dynamics? How about showing how a pedal works on low gain instead of just putting it full blast for the whole demo? Put some thought.

  • It's not JB. It's Eric McWhorton

  • holy shit jack black

  • damn!, digitech makes some really ugly pedals! :O

    sounds good though o.O

  • @Razwithz I think it looks cool.

  • Spent a lot of money on distortion stompoxes, this one is among the best in its price range...really sounds cool on almost all settings (Having a tube amp and a nice guitar will help).

  • Well if jack black likes it then you know it's good

  • Today i got the opportunity to buy that pedal.from a friend .After i heard your demo it sounds nice .I think i made a good choice ..

BTW you have nice boots.I have almost the same.Python snake leather no?

  • what song is it in the intro?

  • gearmandude can u do a video on the ibanez jemini distortion pedal

  • awesome bro this has convinced me to get it!

  • i feel embarrassed... all this time i thought jb meant justin bieber, til i realised you really meant jack black. justin bieber isn't worthy enough to play guitar anyway.

  • im gettin that today

  • man, that pedal sucks...

  • Always a pleasure to watch the reviews. =) Digitech is a cheap choise of a good sound :) It works fine !

  • why jack black ?

  • HEY IT'S BLACK JACK!

  • A crappy boss knock off.

  • vergas con este pedar. vergas y mas vergas !!!!

  • true bypass???

  • @lakkoka Nope.

  • Dude u needa turn the gain down a little bit. It was always at 3 o'clock, i never had the chance to listen to it with its gain down and possibly just boosting it with its volume

  • does anybody else realize that is way too trebly?

  • @NeutralSnap Yeah I was thinkin the same thing. The amps got great tone though.

  • cock pushed-ups

  • I wach this vid every day, I NEED THAT DAMN PEDAL SO BAD :O!!!

And it's the same colour as my guitar! :D

  • @McFro95 it's a sweet pedal. I used to have one and sold it, and now I miss it :(

  • @mlugg01 ive got a marshall guv'nor now, they dont sell digitech across the pond :L

  • Comment removed

  • DigiTech's mint :D

  • i have a bad monkey, now i think this should be the next pedal i should get

  • This dude must have stocks in Jag Amps.

  • JJJJJJJJJJJJAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @RoCkErDuDe123100 jack black doesnt play guitar, he sings

  • one of the best sounding pedals out for the money dude... along with the bad monkey.... great buys

  • Would it sound good with a Marshall amplifier and a Warlock ?

  • I've been looking around for a good "rock" dist pedal, and I think I might have to check this one out. Thanks for the video post!

  • are you jack black?

  • you are a rich jew actor, and you have a combo?

  • u can play punk hardcore with this pedal!¿? thanks

  • I bought a FAB METAL PEDAL, got to say that after watching this video, i'm going to return the FAB and get one of these!!! Videos are great. By the way thanks for reminding me that dont have a $1700 AMP and a $2000 guitar.

    LOL

  • The way I like to put the settings on this is to put morph all the way and gain all the way and twelve on the level and tone knobies. Nice crunch! But I'm thinking of replacing it with a Big Muff for sustain. Good idea? I need some help!

  • Great thank you. U kinda sound like jack black. And NEVER call an SG a les paul again a les paul is 10000000000 times better

  • this is a little off topic but the SG was originally called a Les Paul but Les didn't want his name on it so gibson changed it to SG or "Solid Guitar".... just saying

  • The SG was originally a Les Paul model. Goof.

  • 2:10 "In the still of the night I hear the yada yada coming, coming around my door!, I'n the still of the night I got a yada yada nana tellin me I gotta have more!"

  • DUDE! Thats THE JACK!

  • did actually call the SG for a les paul? :O

  • jack black

  • thats just what I thought LOL!

  • Really good,voice like Jack Black=)

  • J B?

  • wowowowow sounds reallllly good!

  • why is your clean/dry tone never clean?

  • its quite clean actually just a little gain in it

  • Bare in mind that with a tube amp a clean channel that is set on the verge of breakup will breakup with a stiffer picking dynamic. I actually prefer a clean channel that will get some edge to it when I dig in with the pick.

  • understandable..but for a pedal demo i think we all agree that the signal should be mainly clean, thats the bottom line

  • @rocket88bass4 He probably has that amp screaming loud so the tubes are overdriving. If you want it to be clean then pick softer than usual or kick the volume down a hair. Its always good to have a little dirt on your cleans just in case you need it.

  • lets count whose comments have more likes...that should settle this..

  • i just got this pedal, can anyone give me any good settiings?

  • I own it and don't really like it. I've grown fond of my DS1 and Distortion III. Had a Distortion + back in Nam that was nice too.

  • Is this pedal like the Boss DS-1?

  • nice snake skin Boots Partner...lol

  • are you jack black?

  • lol

  • the guy sounds like Jack Black :D

  • jack black attack

  • lol Manic hellish wolf when on and cute lil pussycat wth huge bubbly eyes when off!!! hahaha XD

  • is this better than the boss ds-1/2???? and i haven't heard of jaguar amplification are they any good?

  • never !

  • I really enjoy this guy's demos!

  • Just got this pedal. It's awesome, and models the boss ds1 perfectly. i got it for 40 bucks used, and all the sounds u can get from this thing it should be at least 100 bucks new!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is this pedal also good for a nice metal sound with a lot of gain?

  • yeah u can get a pretty good metal tone from the boss model. although, im not a fan of metal so my opinion might not be the best. :)

  • thx for you answer

  • yah ! i have one and they are so nice!

  • JACK BLAAACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @BornAgain4him jack black doesnt play guitar, he sings

  • @McFro95

I think you need to do some research, Jack Black DOES play the guitar, check out almost every Tenacious D video, both He and Kyle play the guitar.

  • @badboykane no, he pretends to. ur pritty slow if u havent allready figured that out XD he can do a few chords but thats all

  • @McFro95

Still I think you need to do some research, Jack Black CAN play guitar.

I have seen Tenacious D live twice now and on both occasions he has played some guitar without Kyle and he can play more than just a few chords.

He started playing guitar when he was about 26, he is by no means a pro guitarist but he CAN play.

  • HAHAAAA hey "humpreystrong" your comment made me shit in ma pants. o yea thats pretty sad. quick story: hes a funny rocker who has played in alot of movies like tenacious d, school of rock, and tropic thunder. still dont know him?.look him up.

  • whats the hot rod like with a real les paul and good amp?

    not particularly marshall

  • who is black jack?

  • An actor/member of Tenacious D

  • oh shit its jack black again!! XD

  • Oh and I meant hard rock gig not metal X_X

  • Whats that song in the beginning? That song i the introduction of the video? Oh, and what do you people think of using this for a metal gig?

  • i use this pedal through a solid state marshall half stack and the thing kick complete ass

    get this one

  • With the X series pedals, they sound really good but I've found they sap the heck out of my tone. This pedal is more transparent than the tone driver pedal though.

  • omg jb jb jb jb jb how many people have to say it? we all know IT'S NOT HIM - IT'S THE ALLMIGHTY GOT DAMNED GEARMANN

  • @BigNickontheDrum justin bieber? XD

  • @BigNickontheDrum I agree that the "JB" stuff does get old but in all fairness...we don't really know that he isn't Jack Black...

  • @BigNickontheDrum We know hes not Justin Bieber...

  • @BigNickontheDrum

It could be Jack Black. Think about it. How many people have the money to go out and buy a "pile of digitech and danelectro pedals" just to do a gear demos with?

  • jack black

  • is that jack black??

  • jack black

  • lmao the jack black voices cracks me up LOL!

  • lmao he sounds like jack black

  • OH SHIT!!! he really does sound like jack black. LMAO Crazy.

  • sounds like ac/dc sound, great effect

  • the one thing i always hated about SGs is when you bend over and they drop out of tune...

  • that also happens with my strat

  • Idk, i dont have one all i know is those pedals will make it sound closest within that price range, you see my amp has no effects on it to combine with the pedals.

  • if anybody can help me out...what digitech pedal or any pedal for that matter thats in the price range around 49.99 that sounds like or closest to metallica. pls if some one can help ide apreciate it

    thanks.

  • probably the Hot Head Digitech Distortion pedal or the Boss Ds-1.

  • so the hot head or the ds-1 sounds closests to metallica? i have a line 6 15 w will that do it?

  • Dont use pedal with your amp.

  • A Boss MT-2 Metal Zone would be better than a DS-1

  • i doubt either one will sound all that great going through a solid state

  • ive got a digi grunge and it kicks ass. so dont go nockin digitech stuff right LOL!!!!!

  • i was knocking on solid state. amazing pedals can sound bad on a solid state. :P

  • will this pedal sounds bad on a solid state amp? does the tube sound will be altered into a solid state sound? thanks men

  • Jackblack :OOOOOO

  • As I said on the Tone Driver review, I have this Tone Driver and the Hot Rod. The Tone Driver seems to work best with single coils wheras the Hot Rod with Humbuckers.

Similarly, as with the The Tone Driver that can give Tweedy tones, the Hot Rod can give some nice British drive tones but again, you need to keep the gain down around 9-0'clock vol at 12 and keep to the X settings of between 8 and 1 o'clock.

Dial out the fuzz easily! - And Built like Tanks!

  • He sounds a little like jack black

  • i really dont think nickelback has any tones that you have to go get any certain gear to get. theyre pretty generic

  • This is some heavy distortion!?!

Think the screamin blues is better, its not so extreme but just right amount for me :D

  • this sounds like jack black...and he never shows his face....hmm....

  • I've seen this pedal at a local guitar shop.tryin to save up enough to buy this.Just in case ur wandering it is only a $40-$50 pedal with some good quality distortion

  • Looking for a little bit mix of british and 80s and mix distortion pedal

  • Also I personally demoed a EHX Micro Pog and a Digitech Whammy, and while the POG sounded great and was much more polyphonic, it just lacked a good bass sound and was much more of a one trick pony... and it felt like it was made of plastic.

The Whammy is built like a tank and has so many more tools general guitar madness. I would only buy a Micro POG if I found a discount or a rehoused model. Too much money for a cheap case.

  • I don't get what all the hate on digitech is for... they make some nice quality products. Sure, they're made in a factory, but so are Boss products...

I think they offer better quality for price than Boss. It's a really flexible pedal, in my opinion.

  • hey man also try the boss metal core ! sick distortion!

  • Lovin' your reviews of various pedals!

  • dude you sound like Jack Black!!! thats pretty cool, nice demo btw!!!

  • omg your right! is he.....?

  • thanks im gettin it

  • wow, sounds amazingly like your demo of a digitech tone driver i just saw. to my ears, hearing one after the other, there was only a slight difference

  • Having listened to both, I think the Hot Rod sounds better. I do think there was a discernible difference. Then again, it's kind of tough to tell with Youtube videos. But I dig the Hot Rod a bit more.

  • it would be nice to see a side by side with the x series TONE DRIVER

once again thanks for the awsome demo's

  • Word, this guy is awesome. I don't use many "cheap pedals" but its good to see what they can do with good equipment.

  • Gearmandude is here to help guitar players find demos of effects to help them make decisions. Not all guitarists are going to be able to afford boutique pedals. I think its great that hes demoing more affordable pedals for guitarists who cant pump out 200 dollars a pedal.

  • i'm not saying all digitech are bad, whammy is sick, and i like that he's reviewing cheaper pedals, but you'll spend the same amount of money on digitech as an electroharmonix and obviously EHX are wayyyy better, same price, better pedal, like boss are good too, cheap, he should review more of those.

  • That is true, you can buy the Big Muff Pi for 10 dollars more, but whos to say one is better that the other? A player might need the sound of a Digitech instead of an EHX on a budget.

  • maybe, but if you look at the circuitry of both, because i have looked at both, digitech are mass produced and have lots of room for error, i had to resolder some stuff in my grunge and death metal, meanwhile ehx are all inspected and individually demo'd by a real guitarist with a guitar and amp and they do tests on every pedal that leaves the factory, can't argue which is better, but you can see who puts their time into a quality product

  • That I can probably agree with, theres no surprise that EHX has better quality control. But once again, "better" can be defined in so many ways you cant just say one is better than the other. EHX has better quality control but each company could suit a different player's taste. Ciao!

  • i would agree, it is truly a players taste, also amp and guitar combination plays a massive part in deciding if a piece of gear is any good or not, thankfully, gearmandude uses a very no frills tube amp and a generically voiced pickup combination in a standard guitar.

  • boss and ehx arnt cheap at all

  • you have to know what you're looking for and where to buy, and they are cheap, not all of them, like boss twin's and multi's or ehx hog, but the singles are cheap

  • wrong.

  • are you trying to say the whammy is a bad pedal

  • no but were not gonna spend 300 on delay 200 on reverb 500 together for all distortion 150 for chorus and 300 for a looper for example. thts wut he means but whammy pedals owns!!!
