@drewsly1 it depends. the hot head is actually an overdrive if you check the website. the Hot Rod is most likely the best of those for playing solo/lead stuff, whereas I think the DS-1 would be better for rhythm stuff.
@drewsly1 im actually gonna get it from guitar center this week, i heard its a really great pedal for soloing and for rythm playing, and i believe itll fit any style from classic rock to heavy metal, plus it has a nice amount of boost.
I don't care if its Jack Black, this demo sucks as do most of his overdrive demos. Here's the deal: Why not read the booklet and show the different features instead of just plugging in and noodling. The Hot Rod has a morph knob that changes the pedal being modeled Rat Fuzz Face etc. Why not show that? How does the pedal clean up with the volume knob? What about dynamics? How about showing how a pedal works on low gain instead of just putting it full blast for the whole demo? Put some thought.
Spent a lot of money on distortion stompoxes, this one is among the best in its price range...really sounds cool on almost all settings (Having a tube amp and a nice guitar will help).
i feel embarrassed... all this time i thought jb meant justin bieber, til i realised you really meant jack black. justin bieber isn't worthy enough to play guitar anyway.
Dude u needa turn the gain down a little bit. It was always at 3 o'clock, i never had the chance to listen to it with its gain down and possibly just boosting it with its volume
I bought a FAB METAL PEDAL, got to say that after watching this video, i'm going to return the FAB and get one of these!!! Videos are great. By the way thanks for reminding me that dont have a $1700 AMP and a $2000 guitar.
The way I like to put the settings on this is to put morph all the way and gain all the way and twelve on the level and tone knobies. Nice crunch! But I'm thinking of replacing it with a Big Muff for sustain. Good idea? I need some help!
this is a little off topic but the SG was originally called a Les Paul but Les didn't want his name on it so gibson changed it to SG or "Solid Guitar".... just saying
2:10 "In the still of the night I hear the yada yada coming, coming around my door!, I'n the still of the night I got a yada yada nana tellin me I gotta have more!"
Bare in mind that with a tube amp a clean channel that is set on the verge of breakup will breakup with a stiffer picking dynamic. I actually prefer a clean channel that will get some edge to it when I dig in with the pick.
@rocket88bass4 He probably has that amp screaming loud so the tubes are overdriving. If you want it to be clean then pick softer than usual or kick the volume down a hair. Its always good to have a little dirt on your cleans just in case you need it.
Just got this pedal. It's awesome, and models the boss ds1 perfectly. i got it for 40 bucks used, and all the sounds u can get from this thing it should be at least 100 bucks new!!!!!!!!!!!!
HAHAAAA hey "humpreystrong" your comment made me shit in ma pants. o yea thats pretty sad. quick story: hes a funny rocker who has played in alot of movies like tenacious d, school of rock, and tropic thunder. still dont know him?.look him up.
With the X series pedals, they sound really good but I've found they sap the heck out of my tone. This pedal is more transparent than the tone driver pedal though.
It could be Jack Black. Think about it. How many people have the money to go out and buy a "pile of digitech and danelectro pedals" just to do a gear demos with?
Idk, i dont have one all i know is those pedals will make it sound closest within that price range, you see my amp has no effects on it to combine with the pedals.
if anybody can help me out...what digitech pedal or any pedal for that matter thats in the price range around 49.99 that sounds like or closest to metallica. pls if some one can help ide apreciate it
As I said on the Tone Driver review, I have this Tone Driver and the Hot Rod. The Tone Driver seems to work best with single coils wheras the Hot Rod with Humbuckers.
Similarly, as with the The Tone Driver that can give Tweedy tones, the Hot Rod can give some nice British drive tones but again, you need to keep the gain down around 9-0'clock vol at 12 and keep to the X settings of between 8 and 1 o'clock.
Dial out the fuzz easily! - And Built like Tanks!
I've seen this pedal at a local guitar shop.tryin to save up enough to buy this.Just in case ur wandering it is only a $40-$50 pedal with some good quality distortion
Also I personally demoed a EHX Micro Pog and a Digitech Whammy, and while the POG sounded great and was much more polyphonic, it just lacked a good bass sound and was much more of a one trick pony... and it felt like it was made of plastic.
The Whammy is built like a tank and has so many more tools general guitar madness. I would only buy a Micro POG if I found a discount or a rehoused model. Too much money for a cheap case.
I don't get what all the hate on digitech is for... they make some nice quality products. Sure, they're made in a factory, but so are Boss products...
I think they offer better quality for price than Boss. It's a really flexible pedal, in my opinion.
wow, sounds amazingly like your demo of a digitech tone driver i just saw. to my ears, hearing one after the other, there was only a slight difference
Having listened to both, I think the Hot Rod sounds better. I do think there was a discernible difference. Then again, it's kind of tough to tell with Youtube videos. But I dig the Hot Rod a bit more.
Gearmandude is here to help guitar players find demos of effects to help them make decisions. Not all guitarists are going to be able to afford boutique pedals. I think its great that hes demoing more affordable pedals for guitarists who cant pump out 200 dollars a pedal.
i'm not saying all digitech are bad, whammy is sick, and i like that he's reviewing cheaper pedals, but you'll spend the same amount of money on digitech as an electroharmonix and obviously EHX are wayyyy better, same price, better pedal, like boss are good too, cheap, he should review more of those.
That is true, you can buy the Big Muff Pi for 10 dollars more, but whos to say one is better that the other? A player might need the sound of a Digitech instead of an EHX on a budget.
maybe, but if you look at the circuitry of both, because i have looked at both, digitech are mass produced and have lots of room for error, i had to resolder some stuff in my grunge and death metal, meanwhile ehx are all inspected and individually demo'd by a real guitarist with a guitar and amp and they do tests on every pedal that leaves the factory, can't argue which is better, but you can see who puts their time into a quality product
That I can probably agree with, theres no surprise that EHX has better quality control. But once again, "better" can be defined in so many ways you cant just say one is better than the other. EHX has better quality control but each company could suit a different player's taste. Ciao!
i would agree, it is truly a players taste, also amp and guitar combination plays a massive part in deciding if a piece of gear is any good or not, thankfully, gearmandude uses a very no frills tube amp and a generically voiced pickup combination in a standard guitar.
you have to know what you're looking for and where to buy, and they are cheap, not all of them, like boss twin's and multi's or ehx hog, but the singles are cheap
no but were not gonna spend 300 on delay 200 on reverb 500 together for all distortion 150 for chorus and 300 for a looper for example. thts wut he means but whammy pedals owns!!!
