this Cult Classic from the 80's has a great cast led by Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken Kurt is Excellent as ex special forces officer turned criminal S.D.Plissken and with the help of some of Snakes Badass one liners he makes the character unforgettable for the audience like nobody can John Carpenter has to be one of the best sci-fi horror helmers who's made so many great cult favorites and This one is one of them.
Wow i love this score it is a classic from the 80's This movie is another great result of Carpenter and Russell collaboration and even twenty five years after it's release many people including me consider this movie as a milestone both in action and science fiction genres and it definitely deserves it's reputation as a cult classic The movie has a dynamic direction,a unique atmosphere,a very well written screenplay with great dialogues and characters and a Brilliant Score
Great song and movie. The Thing is the best movie... not the best Carpenter, the best of all times, including the soundtrack. But I love this ost too... I'm looking for the song of the now extinct John Carpenter myspace forum, that was great, very similar to this theme.
@Mudjin Huh? I think we've got our wires crossed, Buddy! I was taking a nod and a wink at the opening of the movie when the young lady proclaims "In the year 1988, the crime rate in the United States rose 400 percent etc". Unless, you comment was a lot smarter than mine and just flew over my head?
I hate to poop on the party, but I don't think this is the original. I remember the 'original' soundtrack having a synth bass drum coming in slowly in the beginning, and less of a synth 'snare' sound once the keys start.
I hate to poop on the party, but I don't think this is the original. I remember the 'original' soundtrack having a synth bass drum coming in slowly in the beginning, and less of a synth 'snare' sound once the keys start.
ARSE IT SHOULD ! There have been too many crapped on classics. It's sad but its only a matter of time some mother does the unthinkable and casts that Twilight cunt as Snake !
If you like John Carpenter's scores check out my channel. I made a concept record that involves deconstructing Carpenter's scores and remixing Lil Waynes tracks with the deconstructed scores. It is super dark and heavy.
@GeorgesTitties Actually, Solid Snake is a poser of Snake from EFNY. The film came out in 1981, at least five years before the first Metal Gear game came out in Japan.
This song is a great inspiration to me, and reading the comments on this video makes me feel good because at least there are other people who enjoy synth composers. I hope to be a film director one day, and I plan on using synth based music like Carpenter did.
Incredible theme. Just awesome. You can feel it down to your core.
Movie scores today have no balls, no sense of adventure. Most of them are bombastic over the top, or sound like canned orchestras. Where are all the synth composers to give us music like what John Carpenter gave us?
@zenmachinefilms It's a good theme but compared to a great theme like from "the lord of the rings", it's like comparing the graphics of an atari2600 game with a 2010 xbox360 game.
@BrotherLeon2010 - To me I can't even remember how LOTR theme goes, or any of the score to any of the films actually, only that it was scored with a symphony orchestra.
guys i am only 14 years old but I 've seen these excellent films called escape from NY and LA and i agree with the olders no1 can remake or try do something better than this
I saw this movie 21 years ago, but I have to watch it again and again. Fantastic dark, dystopian feeling, and a masterpiece theme song. One of the best movie of all the time. I wish I would go back to the 80's...

@RediForKing this movie was made when punk was around. This movie is punk. And only Kurt could do this role right.Right man right place right time..Snakes (I dont give a fuck about your war)line is Punk
@RediForKing There are good movies being made, it's just that the money guzzling fat cats in hollywood don't know how to make a masterpiece if a 12 guage blew them in the face.
Love this movie<great theme. reminds me of the 80's video game themes. escape from la sucked big time tho. by the way this movie is in preprodution for a remake. and the guy from 300,gerald butler, was supposed to play snake but turned it down. asshole.
we have to face it. the 80s wont come back! remember that synthy sounds where top notch back then. new york had a high crime rate. punk was subculture. graffitti as well. this movie might look dated today but it captured the 80s so well. oh and back then the cold war was still going on. apart from the 50s (with giant spiders/ants) no era dealed with the nuclear thread so well! watch terminator, blade runner and escape from new york and you get a really good feeling of the very moody 80s movies!
(Snake) Weres The president (Cabie) The Dukes Got Him, Evry One Knows The Duke Got Him, You Dont Have To Put A Gun To My Head Ill Tell Ya (Snake) I Want To Meet This Duke...
@Magnolia296 yeah I agree with you too, I miss the 80s too.the 80s were the best era for movies and the music.John carpenter is an amazing director. Excellent movie from start to finish, kurt russell kicked ass as snake plissken. The escape from new york theme is so epic and awesome.I Love the main theme.its so very 80s.80s movies are always the best.what a great film this was and its one of my favorites along with The Thing, and Escape from LA.
Great movie and I Agree with Maskasan, the Escape from New york main theme is the best and I Love how John carpenter composed it,very epic and very 80s.this theme is the best. I Loved the 80s and the movies in theses times were the best. I Became a fan of kurt russell after this movie, He was so Great as snake plissken,I Loved kurt russell in this movie.its still a classic. I hope there is NO remake of escape from new york, no one can play snake plissken.

Not all versions of this track are the same.
This is the version I prefer as the extra synth sound is more prominent at 1.29.
You can hear the difference between the video Escape From New York Theme( Best Quality) by Stefanszz and this.

not stolen just inherited and inspired by. I read a interview with Hideo Kojima on the subject.

Does anyone have a video with the music that plays when Snake Plissken flies into New York? I've been trying to find that track for some time now.
